Sony eReader Devices Return to Japan

As of December this year, those of you in Japan will be able to pick up a Sony Reader device. Sony stopped selling the Sony eReader in Japan back in 2007, but is now returning to that area to start up sales again.

Sony Reader eBook App to Launch on iOS and Android

Sony has announced that it will be launching a couple of new reader apps. One is being built for Android OS based smartphones and the other is being built for iOS based devices. Each version of the app will be launching next month in time for Christmas.

It appears that the apps will work in a similar way to how the Kindle app works on these devices in that once you purchase books from the Sony Reader store, you’ll be able to download them to the app on the devices that run it. [Read more…]

Sony Ericsson X12 Anzu Details Leak

More details of the Sony Ericsson X12 Anzu have been revealed. The new device is expected to launch early next year installed with the Android 2.2 operating system. The Android 2.2 install will then be followed with Android 2.3 after launch (update rumoured for Summer 2011).

When Sony Ericsson launched the X10, it came with a very old version of Android and took a long time to be updated. It isn’t clear if this impacted sales at all or not, but it still left a few people frustrated and wanting the latest version of Android. Sony Ericsson ANZU To Run Android 2.3 When Launched

The XperiaX10 website has received an anonymous tip along with a picture that claims to show the next generation smartphone from Sony Ericsson called the ANZU. The ANZU is believed to be the successor of the Xperia X10 range of smartphones.

The device its self is said to have a 4.3 inch display and be very thin. As well as showing a leaked picture of the device, the ANZU will also run Android 2.3 when it launches rather than an older version. Sony Ericsson LiveView Launching Nov 19 in UK

The Sony Ericsson LiveView has found a release date in the UK of November 19. The LiveView is a device with a 1.3 inch screen that connects over Bluetooth to your Android based smartphone. Apple iTunes Sony Previews to Jump from 30 to 90 Seconds

Apple [AAPL] seems to have sent out a letter to music labels informing them music clips in iTunes will now jump from 30 seconds to 90 seconds in length. This policy applies to those songs that are over 2 minutes 30 seconds in length. Any tune shorter than that will continue to have a 30 second sample available.

Sony Ericsson X10 Android 2.1 Update Rolling Out

Sony Ericsson is beginning to roll out the Android 2.1 update for various Xperia smartphones. The list includes the Xperia X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro lineup.

The roll-out has started already, but rather than pushing it out to all handsets, Sony Ericsson is rolling it out to various “kits” as they refer to them as. A Kit is described as being a different variation of the phone which includes colours, accessories bundled etc…

The roll-out will take about a month to hit all handsets, so if you don’t get a notification now then you’ll just need to wait longer till its your turn. [Read more…]

Sony Ericsson Z-System Trademark – PlayStation Phone

Yesterday, Engadget managed to get hold of a number of pictures of what is believed to be the new Sony Ericsson Playstation Phone.

On one of the image the phrase Z-System was seen on the top left of the screen. After a bit of digging around it appears that Sony Ericsson also own a domain called z-system.com and that a Word Mark (trademark) of Z-System is also found in the US and Benelux trademark offices.

The description of Z-System shows that its software that interacts with software found on mobile phones, ie a gaming system could fall in to this category. [Read more…]

Sony Could Launch 24 Megapixel Translucent Mirror Camera Next Year

Sony could be getting a new camera ready for launch mid-2011. The new camera is rumoured to be the Sony Alpha A77 and new features would include a translucent mirror configuration.

The new camera will have a 24 megapixel crop frame sensor that will have little noise when compared to the 14 – 16 megapixel cameras. A Bionz processor is expected and from what has been described elsewhere, Sony is attempting to make an “almost perfect” camera. [Read more…]

PS3: Sony Confirms Deal With LOVEFiLM

We wrote not too long ago about the possibility of LOVEFiLM being available to PS3 gamers next month. Now Sony have certified that this is for real as they have crossed the t’s and dotted the i’s as it were and preparing for LOVEFiLM to cater for gamers in the UK.

Once you turn on your PS3 and have downloaded the required update, you will have access to LOVEFiLM’s library of movies via the PlayStation 3’s XMB. [Read more…]

Sony Google TV Now Official

Sony has officially announced the new range of Sony TVs, powered by Google TV.

As expected, the new TVs come in several sizes which starts off with a 24 inch called the NSX-24GT1 priced at $599.99.

Next up is the 32 inch model called the NSX-32GT1 priced at $799.99 and then the 40 inch model NSX-40GT1 priced at $999.99 and finally on to the largest 46 inch model called the NSX-46GT1 priced at $1399.99. [Read more…]

Rumored Sony Google TV Prices Possibly Incorrect

Details of the Sony Google TV leaked early a few days back. Along with the leaked details came some prices. We now hear that the prices were incorrect. It’s not all bad news though as we have heard that the prices are actually a little lower with the top end screen cosing $1399 ($500 cheaper than originally rumored).

Exact details of how much the other screens have dropped is not known at the moment, but Sony Insider does comment that all screens are dropping in price. [Read more…]
