Black Diamond Smartphone

The Black Diamond Smartphone was a concept a few months back and most of us thought it would stay that way. However, a company called VIPM is going to be producing these in very limited numbers. Basically it means that they will be a tad on the expensive side (ie… you wont get it free with a contract). The price tag will be somewhere in the $300k price range. Yes… that K is another 3 zero’s on there 🙂

It looks amazing. It runs the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform and has a 2 inch screen. It has a 400Mhz XScale processor with wifi, bluetooth, 128Meg of internal memory and a touch sensative keypad.

Earlier I mentioned it is a limited edition. A total of 5 will be made. Good luck at getting one 🙂 And raising the money to buy it. What happens if it breaks though? Will they ship another? That would mean that a 6th would have to be made. Hmmmm.

PSP – PS3 Remote – RSS

It has been confirmed in San Diego that the Sony PSP will be capable of working as a remote for the Sony Playstation 3 which is due out later this hear. It has been a rumour for a number of months but is now official.

The next version of firmware for the PSP is version 2.8 which will include support for RSS video feeds and will also include a demo of World Tour Soccer 2.

It’s good news that the PSP is still getting the needed support from Sony with the launch of the new Sony PS3.

Other news for the PSP is that it will feature a better keyboard soon as this is one of the downsides of using the device for anything else but games.

New Site

Hello All… we decided to make the PSPGameSpot.com site use the wordpress interface as the content we were adding before was more geared to news rather then a forum approach. We will bring back the forum soon for those who want to continue talking there. For now, you can read about the latest titles, hardware, homebrew etc… for the Sony PSP.

MobiBlu DAH-2200 MP3 Player

The MobiBlu DAH-2200 is a decent looking player. It has 1Gb of onboard flash, MP3/WMA/WAV support. 13 hours of playback. It includes an FM receiver, voice recorder and the last and weird thing is the 2 headphone sockets I guess so 2 people can listen. I havent seen a device with 2 headphone sockets since my sisters bright Yellow Sony splash proof sports walkman.

Car to Car Communication

Imagine driving towards some traffic lights and you can have a count down telling you how long before the light changes Green. Or if an ambulance is on it’s way and you need to move. This might happen with this new idea from Sony. It’s basically a system currently which is designed to pass messages from car to car through an LED which appears to be switched on all the time but is inface flashing very quickly. I personally have no idea what a car to car communication could be needed for, bearing in mind the you would have to type out a message etc… and surely it’s quicker to call someone. Maybe something like a breaking system might be of benefit where it can warn the driver behind of sharp braking.

Grundig Freeview Recorder – GUDVDR0IV

Grundig is a name I dont seem to remember since I was a child. However, it seems either I havent been in the same circles, or they took a long holiday. Either way, they have now released the FreeView recorder which looks promising. It works on the UK's freeview network which has 30 free digital channels as well as 20 radio stations and can record the TV (a bit like Sky+). It comes with a 160Gb drive and can record programs up to a week in advance. Engadget are speculating that the device might outprice Sony and Panasonic.

360 Price Drop This Christmas!

Rumours are circulating that the XBOX 360 will have a nice price drop this coming Christmas (niclely timed for the Sony PS3 release). The core package will be less then £200 (I assume that means £199.99) and the premium package will be around the £220 price mark. This is surely a kick in the teeth for Sony who may be selling the PS3 for more then £500+ quid. Play.com already are taking pre orders for the PS3 at £549.99 in the UK.

However the PS3 may still attact avid gamers as they will still love the PS3 console and quite possibly view the 360 as slightly older technology.

Mobile Phone Cameras becoming more popular then Cameras?

A recent study shows that 44% of people use their mobile phone as their main camera. I can see with the introduction of even higher mega pixel cameras that they will one day totally take over.

The mobile phone is becoming a main point in most of our lives. They are used to time keep, as alarm clocks, more recently as MP3 players (especially with the launch of the Sony Walkman Phone).

This survey was performed by Nokia as the number of mobile phones across the world is aproaching 2.5 billion handsets. A crazy amount of phones in my opinion.

If mobile phone makers can add all the tools in to 1 device then I am all for this. On my phone I can watch TV, listen to MP3’s, send and receive emails, browse the internet at high speed and more. There is no doubt that mobiles are just going to continue pressing forwards heavily. Also I see wifi being integrated with the latest Nokia N range of phones as well as small hard drives in there also. A whole mine field of information will be available in your pocket from anywhere in the world.

I look forwards to what the future brings in the mobile phone industry!

PS3 Card Games

Sony are introducing a cool game when the PS3 launches later this year. The games makes use of a real deck of cards and a camera (Eye Cards). The game, named “The Eye of Judgement” makes the cards come to life as mythical characters on screen, thanks to the inbuilt camera on the PS3.

As seen above, the game makes use of the real deck of cards. I personally think this might be an excellent way forwards for some type of games although the same should be able to be acomplished on the PS2 and I wouldn’t mind seeing this game appear on there. The Eye Toy on the PS2 is such a classic device that it had to take off big style.

What used to be imagined in your mind is now displayed on the screen.

The way the ps3 card games works is by placing cards on to the 3 x 3 board in front of you. The camera reads a code from the back of the card which is then converted in to an onscreen character (see image above).

Even better news is that the game should be made in to an online game… although Sony are working on how to stop the opponent from cheating.

Keep checking back for more news on the Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) due out November 2006.
