For the last few years the GSM Association has been trying to get a charging standard across all mobile phones. Finally, the new standard has emerged with microUSB being the new way to connect a charger to your mobile phone. The roll out will start in Europe over the next few years where the large manufacturers which includes LG, Motorola, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Research in Motion, NEX, Qualcomm and TI. Strangely enough, there is no mention of HTC who have become big in the smart phone race. However, I believe that most, if not all, of their phones already use the microUSB standard to charge. PSP used as Status Display for PC
If you have a spare Sony PSP kicking around your house and lack the funds to buy a second monitor for your PC then you can now use your PSP to display the status of your PC.
A hacker named AVI has created a script which you can run on your PC which sends data to the PSP screen. Information displayed on the PSP screen is CPU Usage, memory allocation and system temperature levels. To get the script working you need to edit a bit of script and have Lua for the PSP. Transparent OLED Screens Revealed
Recently at a show in Tokyo a Philips were showing off some transparent OLED displays. The screens were capable of letting about 70% – 75% light through when switched off.
The idea is great as it could turn any window in to a display. OLED’s tend to be very thin due to no backlight being needed as each individual pixel can be lit up a different colour with it’s own light source. Unfortunately there are no details on how the transparency is achieved but it is expected that the setup will probably be similar to current non transparent versions that we see around. [Read more…]

Cradle for Watching Movies and TV on your PSP
This new cradle for the PSP allows you to watch TV or movies while charging your PSP. The cradle includes a small remote control allowing you to change channel and flick between movies. Does anybody actually watch a PSP at anything more then arms length away though? I guess it does make it easier then flicking through menu’s, so we can let them off in this instance.
