HP Slate Running Windows 7 Could Still be Announced

Microsofts [MSFT] Worldwide Partner Conference kicks off today over in Washington D.C. where it is expected that the HP Slate could be on show again. A few months back it seemed like the HP Slate had been dropped due to HP buying Palm and webOS. Most people expected that a HP Slate running webOS was going to happen.

Over on the WPC website, captured above and below, it shows Windows 7 Slates with HP being listed as one of the “partners” which kind of indicates that there could actually be a Windows 7 HP Slate launching perhaps this year.

Other companies listed include Sony, Dell, ASUS, Panasonic and a number of other large brands. [Read more…]

PSP 2 Could get 3G Connection

We are hearing from I4U today that the next generation Sony PSP 2 could get a 3G connection built in. One step that some people are thinking of is the PSP’s leap in to 3D like the Nintendo 3DS although this is unlikely to happen when the nextgen PSP 2 launches.

By building a 3G connection in to the PSP 2 it essentially allows games to be on-line wherever they are to download new games and other content as well as play on-line gaming with others without the need of a wireless hotspot.

As well as providing content and “possible” on-line gaming to the PSP 2, the 3G connection would also let users surf the internet wherever they can pick up a 3G signal. [Read more…]

Three MiFi Review

A few weeks back I mentioned that 3MobileBuzz had sent over a Three MiFi for testing. My initial Three MiFi Review was overall positive although I needed to test further to get a better impression of how it worked whilst travelling. Well, I’m back and I’m glad to say it performed well.

The Three MiFi we tested is the Huawei E5830 version (now replaced with the 2nd gen model). The device is simple to set up and has just 3 buttons on the casing. One powers the device on and off, the second enables and disables the WiFi network and the third button enables and disables the mobile broadband connection (see image below). From powering up to being online takes around 30 seconds to 1 minute although it does require 3 button presses which could be just made to 1 press with firmware I believe. Not a major issue though.

The display on the device is very basic showing just 5 icons. The top right icon is the battery indicator. The top left shows signal. The bottom left shows if WiFi is enabled. The bottom right shows the mobile broadband connection and the middle light shows if you are roaming. Previously I had said I wanted more details to be displayed on the screen although when actually using the device I rarely looked at the screen unless it dropped my connection which happened maybe 2 or 3 times a day for whatever reason. Again, it wasn’t a major issue and mobile devices do lose signal occasionally. It’s just a 2 second hold of the data button and I was up and running again. [Read more…]

HTC to use S-LCD due to AMOLED Shortages

It seems like the Samsung Super AMOLED screen is in short supply forcing HTC to start looking at S-LCD screens manufactured by Sony and Samsung in a joint venture.

From what we understand the HTC Desire, HTC Droid Incredible and Google Nexus One will soon be supplied with one or the other type of screen. From the tests HTC performed the company says that there isn’t really any difference that regular users will notice although somehow it seems they will need to notify customers some how to what type of screen is to be found in the phone.
