32GB Sony MicroVault Click

Sony have unveiled the new Sony MicroVault Click that comes in several capacities which includes 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB.

The 32GB capacity is the physical limit, but there is also a Virtual Expander built in that provides data compression via software built in to the MicroVault. According to Sony, this allows users the possibility of tripling capacity although I suspect that’s the maximum amount and of course, the real compression would vary depending on the file type stored on the MicroVault. Sony PS3 Firmware Update to Bring 3D to All PS3 Games

Sony-PS3-3D-FirmwareIn 2010, Sony will be launching a new firmware update for the PlayStation 3 that will bring 3D to ALL PlayStation 3 games. Although they say all, there might be a few games that just don’t work well with 3D, but on the whole all should be compatible.

The system works by sending out a HDMI signal to a 3D TV that runs at 200Hz. Each frame displayed on the screen alternates between the left and right eye giving a 100Hz per eye 3D image. For a test an Engadget editor tried out Wipeout HD and said it looked amazing. Video of the game after the jump although you wont actually see it in 3D as you need to be there wearing the special glasses. [Read more…]

Inside Sony’s new DSLR Cameras

Sony-Aplha-DSLR-Image-SensorSome interesting images of the new Sony Aplha range of DSLR cameras have been shown over at PC Mag. The images show how the new Live View features work and what actually goes on inside the camera to make it work.

The A500/550 will also feature an advanced version of “Live View” shooting , using your LCD as a viewfinder. Most cameras that offer “Live View” can’t offer the fast phase-detection auto-focusing system that is in use when using the optical viewfinder. This is because “phase detection” auto-focus works by using a transparent mirror that reflects light from the lens downward and upward. Light goes downward to a small sensor that performs auto-focus, and the upward to provide the same image to the optical view finder so you can see what you’re shooting.

Good points were that the note taking and dictionary features were excellent with the notes being synced to your desktop versions of the books. A video review can be found after the jump. [Read more…]

Sony PSP Go Downloads to start at €1

sony_psp_go_download_gamesThe Sony PSP Go is Sony’s latest handheld to the market. It’s basically a new PSP but for some reason, seems to lack the hardware to make you go wow. Anyway, to cheer things up a little it appears that Sony will be pricing games on the PSN (PlayStation Network) starting at just ‚¬1 with a jump to ‚¬2 and finally ‚¬5 each.

This move brings the pricing in to the Apple App store price range and interestingly enough, Sony have been actively trying to get iPhone developers moving their games over to the PSP Go platform. [Read more…]
