Sony PS3 3D Firmware Update Coming Soon

Several months ago we first heard that 3D was heading towards the Sony Playstation 3 in the way of a firmware update that would convert ALL existing games to a 3D format automatically. Although it was said that not all games would look good in 3D, it would give an added dimension and work well on a number of games already released on the console.

What we are hearing now is that this firmware update could be arriving within the next few months along side Sony BRAVIA 3D screens specifically made to be compatible with the PS3 in 3D. [Read more…]

Sony Ericsson X1 running Android

The Sony Ericsson X1 is normally a Windows Mobile based smartphone, however, this particular X1 has been modified and now runs a version of Android.

The video below gives a demonstration of how the X1 can handle the Google [GOOG] Android operating system. At the moment it isn’t quite up to speed with other Android based devices but mainly this is down to control of the device looking slow (maybe to do with the resistive touchscreen rather than capacitive) which makes gestures and flicks a little harder to achieve. Also the phone doesn’t seem as responsive when transitioning between different menus and functions. In saying that, it isn’t terrible by any means and it does look responsive enough to use. Sony PS3 finally Hacked – Fully?

It took 3 years, 2 months and 11 days to finally hack the PS3 fully according to George Hotz (although it isn’t public yet how to achieve it, so for now we can’t confirm the truth of it). The hack was created by George Hotz who managed to use some hardware and software to break in to the system. Dumps of LV0 and LV1 have been created as well as the NAND. Other dumps will follow in the next few weeks it seems.

The exploit will not be revealed yet though while decryption keys are found allowing those who understand it all to hack in to their PS3. [Read more…]

Sony VAIO Z Series gets Quad SSD

We first mentioned the Sony VAIO Z Series notebook a few weeks ago around the time of CES. Sony today pushed out a press release that gives a few more details about the notebook and also when it will be showing up in Europe.

First off, the specs. The VAIO Z Series will come with a Quad SSD that’s configured in a RAID 0 setup. Having a quad SSD RAID 0 configuration allows for data to be shifted up to 6.2 times quicker than a 5,400 HDD configured in an array. The 6.2 speed increase (potentially) should make it one very quick notebook where accessing data is concerned. Also the VAIO Z supports an Intel Core i7-620M processor (depending on the model you choose) along with a healthy 6GB of DDR3 memory.

A second unique point about the VAIO Z series is the high performance dynamic hybrid graphics system it uses. The notebook basically has two options to switch between an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M GPU for when performance is needed and when not you can manually or automatically switch down to a lower spec Intel based configuration which we assume is done real-time. Sony Alpha A450 DSLR Announced

Sony have announced a new camera in the Alpha range called the Sony A450. The A450 DSLR is a cut down version of the A500 in some ways in that it has a 14.2 megapixel CMOS sensor (same as the A500) but lacks fast-AF live view and lacks the tilting/swivelling screen.

The screen it’s self measures 2.6 inches making it relatively small also. By cutting screen size down and removing some of the features the battery life has been improved allowing it to capture over 1000 shots on a single charge.

The camera is kind of a confusing one according to DPReview as it has features of the A230 with a larger battery life making the lower range of cameras quite complicated in that they all vary by just a few features. [Read more…]
