Sony Bravia NX800 range HDTVs Ready for Order

Sony have announced that the Sony Bravia NX800 series of HDTVs are now available to buy. The new TVs were first demonstrated a few weeks back and were seen to have very thin profiles and look very sleek.

Sony now have the new HDTVs ready for pre-ordered as well as some of them being available now to purchase.

The TVs themselves have a few unique features that include a six degree tilt system allowing for a comfortable viewing angle regardless of how low the TV is installed to the floor. [Read more…]

Sony Ericsson X10 Prepares for Launch on T-Mobile UK

As well as T-Mobile getting ready to launch the HTC Desire on their network in the UK this week, they also have uploaded pricing for the Sony Ericsson X10 also giving the phone away for free for those who sign up for a 24 month contract paying £35/month. For the £35/month you get 900 minutes of calls and 500 text messages as well as the “unlimited” 1GB data plan.

The cheapest monthly cost you can get the phone for is just £10/month although at that price you’ll need to pay £226 for the handset and you’ll also be locked in for 24 months as well. [Read more…]

Sony Ultra Compact DSLR Concept – LCD Menu Screenshots

Mid February, Sony unveiled a concept camera that is set to be a Micro Four Thirds DSLR using a mirrorless interchangeable lens system with an APS-C sensor.

Apart from showing off the concept camera casing and lens last month, Sony haven’t really said much about it. We received some pictures yesterday showing us the new LCD display menu system that the camera will use. The menus appear to be touchscreen.

A few hints at what the Ultra Compact DSLR will offer indicate that a background defocus control can be used to adjust the aperture automatically to get the background to focus/defocus as required in the shot. [Read more…]

Sony 3D HDTVs Announced

Sony have announced 12 new full HD TV’s in their Bravia range, some of which are 3D TVs. The Sony Bravia LX900, HX900 and HX800 series are each backlit by LED and have full 3d HDTV capabilities with those attending the press event describing them as being “beautiful”.

Interesting features of the LX900 series include a new Intelligent People Sensors mode that uses a built in camera on the TV to detect were viewers are sitting in the room and the system adjusts the sound to match their location. As well as dealing with sound the Intelligent People Sensors also adjusts brightness in that it can detect when the viewer just has the TV on in the background rather than directly watching it… in these cases the picture will dim to save power. When it detects that no viewers are in the room the TV will automatically switch off to again, save a bit more power. Lets just hope that Sony have got this right!!! [Read more…]

Sony PSP Phone Rumored Again

Wall Street Journal today reported that Sony are planning to take on Apple [AAPL] this year by releasing a much rumoured Sony PSP smartphone.

As well as launching a Sony PSP Phone, rumours about a netbook/eBook type reader/PSP combo were also mentioned that would be aimed at competing with the Apple iPad along with an on-line service to download media such as music, video and games from an online store. [Read more…]

Sony Vaio M Series Netbook Unveiled

Sony Insider have managed to track down some details of a new Sony Netbook range called the Sony Vaio M Series. The Vaio M series netbooks are similar to the Vaio W Series.

The Vaio M Series come with a 10.1 inch screen that’s backlit by LED. A resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels is found on the screen. The netbook runs an Intel Atom N450 CPU running at 1.66GHz. Memory wise it has 1GB of DDR2 and for storage a 5400RPM 250GB hard drive. [Read more…]

Sony PS3 Bug Fixed

We are now hearing that the Sony PlayStation 3 bug is fixed. Reports are coming in saying that users of the older chunky console can actually now connect without experiencing the errors that were listed earlier.

The PS3 bug was related to the internal clock that effected the older consoles for about the last 24 hours and now that it is fixed, users can log on to the PSN as normal as well as play all games. Trophies are also reported to be re-synced to PS3’s successfully. [Read more…]

Sony NV-U35 GPS for Bike Owners

Sony have announced a new GPS unit designed for bike users. The device is called the Sony NV-U34 and is more rugged than a traditional satnav unit allowing it to be used in all weather conditions.

The unit is quite small measuring 112 x 17.8 x 79mm and weighs 176 grams. It has a 3.5 inch QVGA screen that is also touchscreen displaying 320 x 240 pixels. The software built in allows for both 2D and 3D navigation. A specifically designed handlebar mount is also available allowing it to be securely attached to a bike.

Storage wise it has 8GB of memory built in which can be increased by using Memory Stick Duo cards. [Read more…]

Don’t Use your Classic Sony PS3 Until Further Notice

Yesterday a bug hit the PlayStation Network which has caused problems for the older classic (fatter) Sony PlayStation 3 units to not connect or have data loss.

The reason for the problems is due to a bug in the clock functionality that is used by the system. Errors include…

* The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
* When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; ‘An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F).
* When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; ‘Failed to install
trophies. Please exit your game.
* When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; ‘The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)
* Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

Sony Concept Camera Unveiled

Sony are working on a new ultra-compact camera that uses interchangeable lenses. The new DSLR is currently being developed and is scheduled for launch this year. The camera uses a newly developed Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor that supports HD video recording in the AVCHD format.

As well as introducing and showing an early design of the ultra-compact camera, Sony also had on show their latest DSLR called the a700 which at this moment in time, is also a concept/mock up. This camera falls in to the mid-range area of cameras from Sony and is aimed at so called “prosumers” and those who immerse themselves more in to photography. [Read more…]

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX5 and DSC-H55 Announced

Sony [SNE] have announced a couple of new cameras called the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 and the DCS-H55.

The Sony DSC-TX5 is a waterproof camera that is also described as Sony as being the world’s thinnest and smallest certified waterproof camera. It can be dropped in up to 10 feet of water without suffering any damage. Features on the TX5 include Optical SteadyShot that stabilises images. The camera has a 10.2 megapixel sensor and is the first Sony camera to use a new CMOS sensor called Exmor R that is certified to be freeze proof down to 14 degrees F. As well as being waterproof, the camera can also withstand dust and shock from a drop of about 5 feet.

Video on this camera can be captured in HD at 720p format and as it’s waterproof it also allows you to capture HD video and pictures in 10 feet of water for up to an hour at a time. [Read more…]

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini Pro Announced

Sony Ericsson have announced their latest phones in the Xperia X10 range. The new versions are called the Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini pro. Each of the phones are compact versions of the larger Xperia X10.

The X10 mini is a touchscreen device while the X10 mini pro features a touchscreen, but also a slide out QWERTY keyboard. Each of the new X10 mini’s runs the Google [GOOG] Android operating system. Each of the phones include the Sony Ericsson Timescape application which puts all information in one place allowing users to see at a glance any text messages, missed calls, IM’s and Facebook/Twitter updates all in one place.

For music, each phone features the infinite button that connects the phone up to a music store and YouTube to get the music you want to listen to. [Read more…]
