Reports revealed today are showing that seven million iPhone and iPod Touch users attempted to download Adobe Flash to their iPhone/iPod back in December. This is an increase of 4 million from the 3 million who attempted the same in June last year.

Although not available in the app store, the flash application can be downloaded direct from Adobe, although due to restrictions on the iPhone there is no version that actually works on the devices. It is likely that the 7 million attempts to download flash were from users browsing websites and being presented with a prompt to download flash. [Read more…]

Just in the last few days, Google [GOOG] announced multitouch support for the Nexus One. We now hear that a new update to the Google Maps software brings multitouch to DROID phones that use the latest version of the software.

If you have a DROID then load up the market and go grab the new version which is numbered 3.4. When installed you should have full pinch to zoom support in the mapping application. [Read more…]

Google [GOOG] have announced that the Android 2.1 SDK is now available for download. By launching the SDK it allows developers to take advantage of the new functionality found in the latest Android 2.1 OS found on the Google Nexus One.

Although not too much different from Android 2.0, it will allow developers to access new hooks such as the active wallpaper feature found on the Nexus One. Some of the new feature won’t be compatible with older Android phones, but as there are new devices preparing for launch it should be a good enough reason for developers to get working away. More rumours have been started saying that Apple are looking to launch the next gen iPhone (4th gen model) in May rather than waiting for an official announcement in June like usual. The reason for this is that they are looking to counter Google who are looking at releasing a new Google Phone (perhaps a Nexus Two) around that time.

In my opinion this rumour needs to be taken with a bucket load of salt although it would be interesting to see if they did move because of a competitor. [Read more…]

The VPhone was on show at CES in Las Vegas last week. The VPhone comes from a company called Saygus, a small company based in Utah. The VPhone allows for two-way calls to be made on the Verizon network and is part of Verizon’s [VZ] Open Development initiative.

The VPhone’s hardware specs show that it has an 806MHz processor (Marvell PXA 310), has 512MB of flash memory, 256MB of RAM and can support up to 16GB SDHC cards. The camera on the back of the phone can capture images at 5 megapixels while the one on the front used for video calls has a VGA resolution. [Read more…]

Those of you with a T-Mobile G1 could be getting an OTA (over the air) update very soon taking Android on your phone to version 2.0 or perhaps even 2.0.1.

The Android Eclair update brings a number of feature to Android phones. What we do hope for is T-Mobile launching Android 2.1 which we have recently seen on the Nexus One.

Currently we only have a few snippets of video of the boot screen on the N1 (nexus one) phone. That is until now though as someone has posted a 5 minute preview detailing a number of features from the Nexus One including a full interface walk through.

Looking at the video it appears to run very smoothly especially when you see the menu’s moving, Market Place scrolling and web pages loaded. Note that it is running over a wifi connection, but overall speed just seems to show the Nexus One being a lot more snappy than other phones. [Read more…]

Google’s [GOOG] App Market is ticking along quite nicely for them it seems. Google haven’t published details of how many apps are included, but another company have and have said that there are now 20,000 applications available for download.

The distribution graph created by AndroidLib says that of the 20,056 applications 62.2% of them are free vs the 37.8% paid apps. [Read more…]
