Samsung Orion 1GHz Dual-Core ARM Cortex A9 Chip Announced

The Samsung Galaxy S has a fast CPU inside that allows it to shift three times the amount of triangles when compared to a Nexus One and iPhone 3GS.

The chip used inside is about to seem old though after a new announcement came today about a chip called the Samsung Orion. The Orion runs at 1GHz, but rather than being a single core device, it’s a dual-core which brings more power to devices it is used in.

The chip is an ARM Cortex A9 that Samsung say can achieve the following… “5 times the 3D graphics performance over the previous processor generation from Samsung,”. [Read more…]

HTC Tablet to use N-Trig Screen

N-Trig isn’t a well known company although you might have heard of the Microsoft [MSFT] Surface computer which uses these particular screens.

We now hear that the same company, N-Trig, will also be providing screens for the upcoming HTC Tablet devices. The screen for the HTC Tablet will of course be multi-touch.

The HTC Tablet is expected to be the Google Tablet much like the Nexus One was built for Google [GOOG] by HTC. The tablet is expected to run the new Chrome OS. [Read more…]

HTC DROID Incredible Android 2.2 Update Coming August 18

It appears that on August 18 the HTC DROID Incredible Android 2.2 update will be arriving, or at least will be starting to arrive OTA to users.

The information comes from Mashable who heard from sources that Verizon [VZ] were to start pushing the update this Wednesday.

We’ve heard from our sources that the Verizon team members already have Froyo installed on their Droid Incredibles. Now the update is essentially ready for primetime. Froyo has been making its way onto some of the most popular Android handsets in recent weeks. The HTC Evo 4G, the Motorola Droid and the Nexus One have the updated OS.

Kindle and iPad Screens Compared Under Microscope

Keith over at Bit101 got his hands on a USB microscope. After realising that holding it to a Nexus One, he could see the individual pixels, he decided to test what the Amazon Kindle screen looks like compared to the iPad screen.

This isn’t a scientific experiment to prove that one screen is better than another. Images were just captured out of curiosity to see what the two screens look like when compared to each other as well as a comparison to a printed newspaper. [Read more…]

Tawkon App Measures Radiation Increase when Death Grip Applied

Tawkon is an app that can be used to measure radiation on a cell phone. When gripping a mobile phone with a so called “death grip”, the amount of power needed by the call increases to keep the signal active. In turn, radiation levels rise.

A video has been posted by Tawkon that shows three popular smartphones being tested with a death grip see if they each suffer with death grip problems.

The death grip is normally associated with signal loss. This test shows the radiation increase which is caused because of the signal dropping. [Read more…]

HTC Schubert – Windows Phone 7 Captured on Video

HTC has already said it will have a Windows Phone 7 smartphone available on or shortly after the release of Windows Phone 7. We don’t know the official date yet that Microsoft [MSFT] has set, but we suspect it’s coming up soon.

247windowsphone managed to get hold of the HTC Schubert which looks to be the first Windows Phone 7 based smartphone from HTC.

The device has a Nexus One look from what BGR point out, and looks to run Windows Phone 7 very well although the version on there won’t be the final version. We suspect it won’t look as minimalistic as seen in the video although reports do say it is quite a minimal approach in terms of graphics used. [Read more…]

HTC will Ship Android 2.2 on New Smartphones

HTC in China is now starting to ship the HTC Desire with Android 2.2 pre-installed along with HTC Sense.

From what Engadget heard from the company, HTC will be now shipping all HTC smartphones in China with Android 2.2 installed which includes the Wildfire and Tianyi.

It also appears that HTC will be pushing out the Android 2.2 update OTA to all phones that can use it next month meaning that anyone with a HTC smartphone capable of running it, will be running it. [Read more…]

Android Sales in UK Rise 350 Percent

Android from Google [GOOG] is picking up quite a bit in the UK from what we are hearing today. Analysts GfK Retail and Technology is today reporting that sales of Android are up 350 percent from numbers taken in the 1st quarter.

Android’s share of the UK mobile contract market was three percent in Q1 rising to 13.2 percent in quarter two of this year.

UK Android Smartphone Sales Rise By 350 Percent during the period sales of all mobile contract phones rose by just one percent, whilst sales of Android smartphones rose by a massive 350 percent.

Android Playstation Emulator Now Available

Google Android smartphones are now able to play original Playstation games thanks to a new emulator that has been launched called PSX4Droid.

The new Android Playstation Emulator works best with high end smartphones such as the Droid, Nexus One and other more recent devices that have a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. The downside is that the emulator, on some games, is pushing smartphones quite hard and the Droid looks to struggle a little whilst running Need for Speed. [Read more…]

HTC Windows Phone 7 Device Spotted

Engadget over the weekend, managed to get some pictures of a HTC smartphone running Windows Phone 7. The device has a 3.7 inch SLCD screen along with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and an 8 megapixel camera.

The three buttons that can be seen under the screen are touch sensitive just like the Nexus One and are function as a back, windows and search button which falls in line with the three buttons Microsoft [MSFT] require on Windows Phone 7 smartphones.

The device is apparently ready in terms of the hardware although the software appears to be not finished in that there is no skinning with just the basic information showing. [Read more…]

HTC Super LCD Display to Be Used on Some Smartphones

HTC has announced that Super LCD (SLCD for short) will be added to it’s portfolio of smartphones. Two particular smartphones that will start using the new screen technology include the Nexus One and the HTC Desire later this summer.

The SLCD display offers an exceptional natural balanced colour, clear contrast, broad viewing angles and improved power efficiency.

“HTC is experiencing high-demand for many of our phones, specifically our phones with 3.7 inch displays. The new SLCD display technology enables us to ramp up our production capabilities quickly to meet the high-demand,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “The SLCD displays provide consumers with a comparable visual experience to HTC’s current 3.7 inch displays with some additional benefits including battery performance.”

Samsung Galaxy S – 1 Million Sold So Far – Shooting for 10M

Samsung is pushing the Galaxy S class of phones a lot. So far over 1 million of them have been sold globally. Samsung say that they will reach 10 million units which is some achievement.

When Samsung refer to the Galaxy S we assume they include all models such as the Samsung Captivate, Vibrant and the others that carriers sell in the US which all are classed as Galaxy S class phones.

The phone it’s self scored high in our Samsung Galaxy S review. It has a large 4 inch WVGA screen that uses Samsung’s Super AMOLED touchscreen that is very vibrant. [Read more…]
