We posted earlier that IE 9 would not be running on Windows with XP and it looks as though 2 million people aren’t too worried about that either especially as those 2 million downloads were all with in IE 9’s first 48 hours.
Yesterday, Microsoft [MSFT] launched the Internet Explorer 9 beta download. The beta is compatible on machine running either Windows Vista or Windows 7.
The actual release date of IE9 is not for a few months, but for those who don’t mind a few bugs here and there you can grab a copy now to download. Just be aware that it is beta though, so don’t complain if it breaks.
Features included in the latest IE include HTML5 additions along with other new technology that aims to give the old browser a good speed boost. [Read more…]
Dell has demoed a rather crazy looking convertible netbook/tablet device. The new device is called the Dell Inspiron Duo 10 (we think…) and has a screen that swivels around to make the netbook in to a tablet form factor.
Rather than using a central hinge attached to the base of the netbook, this particular model has a screen frame that has two contact points at each time. The screen then rotates within the frame which can then be folded back down as needed which puts the screen on the outside of the device. [Read more…]
Microsoft [MSFT] is launching a beta version of Internet Explorer 9 next week. A few days ago a video demonstration of IE 9 was uploaded to YouTube to give everyone an impression of how it will run and what it will be capable of.
The browser seen in the video (assuming it is IE 9 and not fan made) looks a little cleaner than the current version although not as clean as Google Chrome for example. [Read more…]
T-Mobile and Orange merged a while back and became “Everything Everywhere”. Silly name aside, the two networks still operate as single entities as in all T-Mobile customers get billed by T-Mobile and Orange customers are billed by Orange although the companies are both part of Everything Everywhere.
When the announcement was first made, the network said that they would by the end of this year allow roaming across both networks allowing you to have a better signal in areas if your own network was bad.
From 5th October, 30 million customers – the combined customer base of Orange and T-Mobile in the UK – will be offered the opportunity to access both networks, enabling them to make calls and send texts in more places in the UK for no extra cost.
Facebook has announced that it is dropping support for the older Microsoft [MSFT] browser, Internet Explorer 6. The policy for Facebook is in regards to the chat features rather than the site as a whole, so if you don’t use chat you should be OK to stay at version 6 for now.
We do however recommend that you update Internet Explorer to a later version, or switch to something like the latest version Chrome or Safari to be more secure.
The reason Facebook has dropped support on the chat side of things is due to bugs found in the chat service. The code needed to fix the chat box wasn’t compatible with Internet Explorer 6 and thus, they had to drop support for it. [Read more…]
The Surfer Tablet is heading to Germany soon from what we hear. It’s not a tablet we’ve heard of before although it sounds quite interesting.
The tablet runs Google Android 2.1, has a 7 inch screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and is powered by a 720MHz CPU along with 256MB of RAM.
Other features include 2GB of NAND Flash memory built in for storing data as well as the ability to complement that using a micro SD memory card. Details of the maximum sized card you can install have not been provided.
For connectivity it has Wireless 802.11b/g although there is no 3G support from what we can figure out. [Read more…]
The iPad has been very successful for Apple [AAPL] with 3,000,000 selling in the first 80 days of launch. This high number of sales has effected netbook sales.
Thanks to Apple, ASUS is having to lower it’s 3rd quarter 2010 shipments to 1.4 from 1.5 million the previous quarter. The 2nd quarter was also down from the 1st quarter which was 1.6 million. Normally, shipments would be starting to rise in time for Christmas, so it will be interesting to see what happens there. [Read more…]
S.N.A.P is an app for iOS devices (iPhone, iPad and iPod touch) that has been designed to analyse the privacy settings on your Facebook page.
SNAP means Social Network Analyzer for Privacy and works by logging on to Facebook with it. At that point, it checks the settings on your account and provides a grade based on what your privacy settings are.
S.N.A.P. stands for Social Network Analyzer for Privacy. Working with Facebook, S.N.A.P. gathers privacy information about your profile then grades you on how visible you are to the outside world.
S.N.A.P. also features an in depth search of your Facebook profile for any keyword. Not only will it tell you how many times the word is found, but will show you exactly where, when, and how it was posted.

An application was recently approved by Apple [AAPL] that acted as a flashlight. The app was called Handy Light and from a quick look at it, it appeared to be a flash light app that simply lit up the iPhone so you could see better in the dark.
Nick Lee, the developer of the Handy Light app, managed to sneakily insert some code that enabled tethering on the iPhone. The app cost $1 and by tapping a sequence of colours on the screen a hidden function enabled the tethering features of the iPhone.
The reasons we believe it was pulled was not only for sneakily adding code in and pulling the wool over Apple’s eyes, but it also allowed users to access tethering which would normally cost those on AT&T [T] an extra $20/month. [Read more…]
T-Mobile has announced that it’s HSPA+ network is now able to deliver 4G speeds in the US to 85 million people.
The company is moving forwards and continuing to expand it’s network to 100 metropolitan areas that will by the end of the year, cover 185 million people.
“The aggressive pace of our HSPA+ network rollout means our customers can enjoy a better mobile broadband experience on more devices in more places today-but we’re not done yet. Our first HSPA+ smartphone is coming soon and our footprint will double between now and the end of the year.”
