An image of a new ASUS tablet has been found by Netbook Italia which shows that a 7 inch Eee Pad could be launching at CES shortly. The last 7 inch device that Asus revealed was the Eee Pad Memo although that never actually launched. It is believed that this new device could carry on where the older one left off.

700,000 Android Devices Activated Daily

Andy Rubin has commented that the Google Android operating system is seeing 700,000 devices activated each day. A lot of those will be smartphones although Android is also installed on tablets as well.

Skype WiFi Free in US Airports for Holiday Season

Skype in the US is offering free wifi access for those travelling in the US between December 21 and December 27. The wifi access from Skype will be offered free in over 50 airports in the US.

6.2.1 Kindle Fire Update Breaks Root

The Amazon Kindle Fire was a relatively easy device to root. All that was required was the SuperOneClick utility that rooted the device which in turn, allowed the Kindle Fire to have custom firmware such as CyanogenMod installed on it. Each time an update arrived it unrooted the device, but after running SuperOneClick it was rooted again. This has changed though. Amazon has just released the 6.2.1 firmware update for the Fire which interestingly blocks the SuperOneClick software from working.

LG Prada 3.0 Pictures Leak Before Event

The LG Prada 3.0 has leaked. The phone below shows what LG will reveal later on today at an event in London. The device is built by LG with input from Prada. It has a dual-core 1GHz processor along with a 4.3 inch NOVA display that has a WVGA resolution.

BBC iPlayer for iPhone Launches

The BBC has launched iPlayer for the Apple iPhone. The iPad version has been available since earlier this year and has already seen around 1.5 million downloads. The latest update that launched today now adds universal support to the app so that it works on the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

As with other BBC content, the app is free and allows those in the UK to catch up with a number of channels. The app has been designed to allow watching content over WiFi as well as 3G if desired.

Flipboard is a news reader app that pulls content from a number of sources and presents them in a more friendly way. It was originally launched on the iPad only. The app has now been updated and with that update it has been converted to a universal app which now makes it compatible with the iPhone and iPod touch.

Why the Galaxy Nexus Doesn’t Support Google Wallet on Verizon

We have been informed that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus on the Verizon network will not support Google Wallet. At first it was belived to be an issue with Verizon blocking it due to their own contactless payment system, but in a statement released today Verizon [VZ] has confirmed that this isn’t the case.

An authorised Verizon retailer has indicated that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus release date will be Friday December 9. According to an email with a PDF attached, authorised Verizon retailers will be getting the Galaxy Nexus shipped today ready to be put on sale this coming Friday.
