Magic Mag-net-ic

Magnetic
I am not one for writing about jewellery on the gadget venue dot com blog, but when it involves magnetic jewellery then I though it was cool enough for a mention. Mag-net-ic is a cool set of magnetic cylinders that appear to be very powerful. There are probably a good 40 – 50 of these small magnetic cylinders which hold together very strongly. They can wrap around your wrist and you would probably spend a good amount of time each day playing around with them and making them in to different shapes. Check out the video below and let us know what you think.

VTec Internet Connected Phones

VTec Internet Phone
VTech is launching some regular landline phones with internet connectivity. However, this does not mean that they have VoIP capabilities but rather have a built in internet browser which can pull down information from services such as weather, news and horoscopes. The phones are cordless and use DECT 6.0 which means they do not interfere with your home wireless networks.

The phone is the ip8300 and will cost around 130 dollars.

Luminetx VeinViewer

Vein Viewer
Have you ever wanted to see your own veins? Now you can with the Luminetx VeinViewer. The VeinViewer looks to be quite a cool machine/device which can be used for when you need an injection. A light source emits an infra red (or close to infra red) beam and this gets bounced back by tissue surrounding the vein. A video camera then captures the reflected light and processes the image and projects it back on to the skin. You can then see an overlay of your veins.

Nokia N80 Internet Edition

Nokia are now bringing out the N80 in the form of the Internet Edition. It’s a 3 megapixel slider phone with a whole new range of software. Some of the features included are a spruced up Internet Browser, new software from Yahoo Go, Flickr, Amazon etc…

N80 Internet Edition

Also amongst all this is a cool SIP-Compliant VoIP which will be able to utilise the N80’s wifi support. Various other features can be found such as it being quad band. Apparantly it has the same hardware spec as the current N80 and it’s just the software that is better. This means there is a chance that you might be able to upgrade the firmware. No official word on that though.

Floating Magnetically Levitating Bed Invented

How about a floating bed? How comfy would that be?

A Dutch inventor has made just that 🙂 Another item to go in the weird section although I would still have one. I would not pay $150K for it though.

Netgear Skype Wifi Phone

This is a device that I do like! The Netgear Skype Wifi Phone needs no PC to connect to. All functions are built in. All you need to do is be in a wireless hotspot, log in to Skype with the phone and your contacts are displayed on screen ready for you to call. You can also use the extra features such as Skype Out and calling landlines and also Skype In so that you can receive calls from landlines while on the move.

With the introduction of more hotspots around the world this device is on my cool list!

Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router

This new(ish) wireless router is the answer for those of you who hate loosing your connection mid game. This beast delivers a whopping 25,000sq metres of coverage (that’s 500% more wireless coverage than standard 802.11g).

The RangeMax is designed to work on the fly and will adapt to any situation. If someone uses a mobile phone or microwave in the presense of one of these then it will auto adjust and create a new path (as shown on the funky animation below).

Brother Word Processor Laptop Runs Wolfenstein 3D

The Brother GeoBook NB-60 is an old laptop from the 90s that was primarily used for word processing, accounting, and not much else. The laptop had a 1.44MB floppy drive and also a hard drive.

Action Retro got their hands on one recently, and with the internet being the internet, someone who worked at Brother ported Wolfenstein 3D many years ago. They sent a copy over. A YouTube short shows the game in action. Although the screen refresh rate can’t keep up, it runs quite well given that it’s on a laptop designed for word processing.
