A list has been posted of 25 gadgets that will pay for themselves. This is a really cool list that I found linked over at coolest-gadgets and does make you realise that you can spend money to actually save money. Items such as battery chargers and rechargable batteries cover their costs with in months of having them. How many of these money saving gadgets do you own?

The list can be found at Thesimpledollar and has some interesting points like a laptop that you use at home on battery and charge in the office could pay for it’s self in saved electricity each year.

One I didnt see on their which is a big saving for me is saving 5 quid a month cutting my own hair 🙂 My clippers only cost about 30 quid and they have been in use well over 5 years.. thats a 270 pound saving!

POV Christmas Tree

You have probably walked through an airport to see one of those fancy spinning screens which seems to always face you. You have also probably seen the frisby with a bank of LEDs on which you can throw and it spells out words in the air. The POV Christmas tree works on a similar principle. It is a bank of LEDs in the shape of a tree. The LEDs spin around a central point fast and it shows the appearance of a christmas tree out of LEDs. They are cool to watch. The tree is powered by 9V batteries and full instructions can be found at the link at the bottom of this post.

For those of you who are not sure what POV means, it is persistance of vision.

Aliph Jawbone Headset

The Aliph Jawbone headset looks like a pretty cool Bluetooth enabled headset. It’s a sleek red, black or silver colour and uses noise canceling technology which uses a number of microphones to detect noise around you. It will cost around 120 dollars and is available from Cingular. The guys over at slashgear have a few more details about the sleek looking Aliph and is well worth checking out.

Wii Injuries – Wiinjuries

Along with the launch of the Nintendo Wii and it’s very unique approach to the gaming world. It uses a unique controller called the Wiimote which has a number of sensors in there and changes the way the average games controller is used. If you are playing golf then you swing the remote like you would a golf club and hit the ball. Likewise, if you are playing tennis then you can do fast serves, volleys and all sorts of moves. Just play tennis like you would normally and the wiimote sends the motion detection to the Wii and puts that in to the game.

With the wiimote requiring a more hands on approach, in turn a number of incidents have been reported of people getting a little bit too agressive and accidently letting go of the wiimote. Engadget decided it was time to compile a list of Wiinjuries in to a nice list. Please bear in mind that if you use the strap and follow the rules then you shouldnt really hurt yourself 🙂

LG UP3Flat
LG have create a very nice looking MP3 player. It looks like an older shuffle, but with more sleek looks and seems to take inspiration from the LG chocolate series of phones. It is available in memory sizes up to 2Gb, 3 colour LED’s, the USB connector is retractable and it supports OGG. It looks like it is only available over in Asia, but we are hoping to see it hit Europe because of how good this thing looks.

Another beauty from TokyoFlash has gone on sale. This time it’s the JLr7 abstract LED watch. For those of you who like something different then your average watch then you need to visit TokyoFlash and get something cool.

The JLr7 is a sleek GunMetal and black finished watch which has a unique read out. If you are new to TokyoFlash watches then you will not be suprised at how it looks. If you are new then pay attention. The JLr7 has a blue or green LED readout which is animated. It gets its name from the top row of LED’s which form the letters JLr7 and was made by e35 (Eri and Eiichi). When friends glance over at the watch it will seem like some random pattern of lights. However, to the trained eye it will be much more. It will be the actual time.

Between 6pm and Midnight the watch animates every 15 minutes to give an effect of it malfunctioning. Through the day it will sit nice and dark until you press a button to show the time. The LED’s are set in to sections of 12 for the hour, 3 for the quarter past, halfpast and quarter to and 14 lights for the times inbetween. 3 other lights show the seconds ticking.

To know which lights mean which, there are subtle lines dividing sections of the screen so you can more easily calculate the time.

The JLr7 watch is available for 40 pounds in the UK, but TokyoFlash will ship anywhere. Just be mindful of the import fee’s associated.

Sony Ericsson Concept Phone

Sony Ericsson create some amazing phones. This concept phone is no exception and looks very classic. It has a slim body which Sony is known for and is about the size of a credit card. The phone is likely to make it to production which is good to hear. The phone will come with an OLED touch screen and keypad.

Exciting times are still ahead with technology getting smaller. No doubt in a few years time you will be able to carry everything you need in the 1 device. We are getting there now, but I still find that web browsing and a few other features are still not quite suited to a smaller screen. Maybe one day 🙂

Kenwood 10GB7 HDD-based DAP

The Kenwood 10GB7 is a very small hard disk based DAP. The screen is small at just 1.5 inches and is OLED too. For the size of this thing it doesnt cut back too much on disk space too. It runs a 10GB hard drive. Other features available are 7 preset EQ modes, USB and a picture viewer.

Unfortunatly it comes at a price and weighs in at 345 dollars. Dimensions for this DAP are 62x44x17mm.

A-DATA Solar Disk and VoIP Disk

A-DATA have created a solar powered flasg memory stick. The solar power which takes it’s energy from the sun is responsible for powering the display. The display shows how much space is available on the memory. The VoIP is a similar idea to the V-Phone but it has audio funcionality also which allows you to make calls. More details after the jump.

The K3 is Samsungs latest in to the market which has a 1.8 inch OLED display and FM tuner. Not much more is known although it might come packed with either a 1, 2 or 4Gb option.

Optimus 103 – Is it Real

Optimus 103
The Optimus 103 was set to be a wonderful keyboard with each key featuring a nice OLED display which was fully customisable via some software on the PC. Unfortunatly it seems like the Optimus was a little bit of a let down on the recent announcement. It appears now that it will not feature a nice set of colour OLED keys… but rather grey scale, and maybe worse… black and white.

The colour 113 version will still happen no doubt, but it seems it’s a little longer then we expected to hear.

GPS with Complete Coverage Anywhere – U-Blox

u-blox is releasing a new GPS chip which boasts 100% road coverage even in the most challenging GPS signal environments. The TIM-4R has dead reckoning technology which I will explain shortly. The u-blox has a 16 channel ANTARIS 4 positioning engine. It is this engine that ensures uninterrupted positioning where previously this was not possible. To add to this ability, the chips use less power consumption then other GPS chip sets.

Dead Reckoning is a technology that uses additional sensors that can detect the distance travelled with an odometer and gyroscope. This then can be put together with the last good signal (for example you enter a tunnel) and can predict where you
are in the tunnel due to the gyroscope measuring when you turn the vehicle.

Dead reckoning is great for those who need 100% accuracy with GPS such as emergency services as sometimes they need to go through situations where a signal is just not possible.

Hopefully this GPS chipset can live up to it’s standards and deliver what it promises. I have to admit that I am looking forwards to this solution.
