Optimus Maximus – More Versions Coming

optimax-configurations
For those of you who do not (or cannot) shell out $1564 on a 113 key Optimus Maximus keyboard but still want to get in on some of that OLED keyboard action there is good news for you. Optimus have announced that 3 new configurations of the keyboard will be available. The new configurations come in 1, 10 and 47 programmable keys which weigh in at $462, $599 and $999 respectively. Although the idea of a 1 OLED key keyboard sounds a little lame, I actually do think the 10 and 47 key versions could do well as they make for great programmable keyboards.

Memory Paging added to N95

N95
MyDreamTech are reporting that the N95 has a new firmware update available from Nokia. Several new features are bundled in which include a search box on the home screen. The main feature of the firmware upgrade seems to be a paging feature which handles free RAM better which I assume, speeds up the N95 when switching between apps and such.

Please note that this firmware upgrade is for version 1 of the N95 (not pictured above). To upgrade you just need to visit Nokia and follow the onscreen instructions.

European Stealth Fighter

Euro Stealth Fighter
The Lampyrudae or Firefly was Germany’s attempt at a stealthy fighter plane. It was developed by Messerschmitt-B¶lkow-Blohm (or MBB). The shape was designed so that it would minimise radar reflection. In 1987 the project was cancelled. A number of tests were performed on smaller models in wind tunnels as well as low speed models were created. A 3/4 scale version was flown 15 times in 87 in the wind tunnel.

Electrobike Pi – 25 Miles without Pedaling

Electrobike Pi
This new bike is a hybrid which uses pedal power and/or electric power. By mixing the two together you get a very environmental friendly bike which makes it easier on the rider to get where they want to go quicker. The bike is limited to 20mph so it does not require a bike license. The bike’s frame is made from 60% post industrial recycled aluminium and houses the NiMH batteries that keep this thing running. The motor which powers the bike is 36V/500W and if used alone can get you to travel 25 miles even if you do not pedal. With the thumb control you can switch the function of the motor which can be either pushing the bike, or be used to generate power if you are downhill or pedaling.

The regular battery can take you about 30 miles with pedaling and an extra battery doubles that. Of course with more downhill’s and pedaling you can increase that range even further.

For comfort the bike includes a gel seat and can be moved around up or down, forwards or back to get the best seating position. Suspension is also included in the forks allowing for more smoothness.

The gear system is also very fancy and is built by NuVinci. It allows a variable transmission which makes the gear changes smoothly increase or decrease.

This is a lot of cool stuff packed in a bike. Would the 25 – 60 mile range be enough to get you to switch to one? I’d still be afraid of being knocked off by a car so probably wouldn’t switch.

Nokia N95 Nokmote

N95 Accelerometer
The Nokia N95 has a built in accelerometer. To make use of this, a company in France has created some software called Nokmote which allows you to control the N95 by tilting it left, right, up or down. To skip through menu’s you just flick it to the left or right and then push the phone quickly away from you to select the item. The software is not just for menu’s though. It also allows you to play games, browse through photo albums and control the media player. With the video being in French I have no clue what was actually said, but do check out the game when attached to the screen as the N95 can be used like a Wii Controller which is cool.

What I would like to see (if it’s not already there) is certain shakes and twists quick launching applications. Such as a tilt right to create a new SMS and a twist right to open up your address book etc…

The software will be available in December at Bysamir.

Remote Control Moon in my Room

Personal Bedroom Moon
This moon is remote control and sits in your bedroom on the wall. The moon has light sensors built in which allow it to switch on when it gets dark in the room. The light show the moon cycling through 12 lunar phases. The moon is also true to life with a detailed moonscape. The moon for your room will set you back $29.95 from Discovery.

Bluetooth DVR Pen

Bluetooth DVR Pen
This pen packs in a ton of features making it more then just your average pen. Inside you will find a wireless low power digital video recorder which also includes a microphone. The pen can capture images at 30 frames per second at a 320×240 resolution. Other features include motion sensing which allows you to position the pen and only start recording when it detects something moving. Information is captured to a microSD card and also Bluetooth is inside which allows you to hook it up to your PC. The pen can record in low light conditions and when motion is detected, an alarm can be sent wirelessly. Audio recording can also trigger the device too.

The pen will hopefully see light in March of 2008.

Cableman – The Rubber wire Tamer

usbfever-cableman
This cool little gadget is a rubber man called Cableman. It’s a small man which allows you to wrap your cables around him to keep them tidy. He comes in several colours and is available from USBFever for just $3.99. Dragon Steel Mods give the little fella a full review although they do say the wires manage to get tangled a little.

Self Healing Plastic

self-healing-plastic
A new plastic has been created which can heal it’s self. Uses for such plastic could be medical implants, self-repairing materials for airplanes and spacecraft. It works by using channels in a second layer under the top layer. When the top layer cracks the crack is filled by a liquid healing agent and when mixed with a catalyst forming a polymer. The amount of times the plastic can heal is not restricted. This process is not new although it seems an easier way of accomplishing the task has been created. There is potential for other materials to contain self healing agents which could lead to a whole host of cool applications.

Introducing the Top 100 Gadget Blogs

Top 100 Gadget Blogs
I would like to introduce a new feature named the Top 100 Gadget Blogs. We have compiled a list of many gadget blogs from around the world and ranked them from a combination of Alexa and Technorati which gives us a good idea of their rank. The Top 100 Gadget Blog list will be compiled once a week along side a list of those websites that have jumped the most places in the list.

If you own a blog and are not listed, then drop us an email at top100 at gvenue dot com.

Check out the Top 100 now and let us know where you are listed.

Top 100 Gadget Blogs

The Top 100 Gadget Blogs ranking is here to help you find out which of the gadget blogs from around the world are the ones to watch out for. Ranking is based on information from Alexa and Technorati which combined, give the blog a ranking. The lower the rank number, the higher in the top 100 gadget blogs list the particular blog will appear.
Information for the Top 100 Gadget Blogs list is compiled every week. At the bottom of the top 100 list you will find code to add a top 100 blog button to your gadget blog.

Congratulations to all those who made the Top 100. If you own a gadget blog and are not listed then drop us an email and we will add it for you.

Updated 20th June 2009 We no longer accept submissions for various reasons.

What is inside a Digital Camera?

crackingopendc
If you ever wondered what you would find in a digital camera but were too afraid that you were going to bust up your expensive one then cnet have done the hard work for you. They cracked open a fairly standard 3.3 mega pixel camera to see what was found inside. Once several screws were removed they pulled the case apart and found various bits and pieces which are covered over at CNET. Inside the camera you will find the flash and capacitor which is used to hold the charge that allows the flash to function. Also inside you will find a view finder, LCD screen, CCD, battery compartment and the circuit boards that make it all work.

Check out CNET for the full rundown of what you will find inside a digital camera.
