Amazon Kindle coming to the UK

amazon-kindle-2An authoritative source informed thebookseller that the Amazon Kindle is heading to the UK and it could be as early as next week.

A few months ago it was also rumoured that an October release date for the device in the UK was happening, so as we are in October now then maybe it will happen.

“The key things they needed to tie up have been tied up. The rumours I’ve heard are all saying next week.” The source confirmed that publishers had signed non disclosure agreements so would not be able to comment on the record. But added: “I’ve heard it from multiple reliable sources. I think they want to avoid the general kerfuffle of Frankfurt.”

Amazon Kindle DX – 9.7″ Screen

amazon-kindle-dxAmazon have just released details of a new ebook reader named the Kindle DX. The Kindle DX comes soon after the launch of the Kindle 2 just a few months ago. The DX features a larger screen measuring 9.7″ which has 16 shades of gray providing very clear and sharp images.

The Kindle DX measures just over 1/3 of an inch in thickness and has storage enough to carry 3500 books, periodicals and documents around with you at all times.

The screen on the DX is auto-rotating like found in many phones. Should you want to read a book in landscape mode you simply rotate it and the screen changes orientation. This makes it handy for viewing maps, graphs and other data more suited to a wider display.

A PDF reader can be found inside allowing you to easily view PDF documents that you download to it from your computer. With wireless 3G built in you can access books from almost anywhere and 3G provides quick access allowing books to be downloaded in under 60 seconds. [Read more…]

Amazon’s Kindle eBook Reader

the Kindle Book Reader
The Kindle from Amazon is a new eBook reader which has an e-paper display providing a sharp high res screen which reads like real paper. The device is wireless allowing it to connect up and get books in less then a minute. It does not need syncing die to the wireless features. More then 88000 books are available right now as well as news papers and other popular magazines. The Kindle can hold over 200 titles in it’s memory which is plenty to keep the avid reader going. The wireless features are not wifi though. Instead they have opted for an EVDO connection which means you do not have to be in a wifi hotspot to download books. As long as you have a cell phone signal then all should be good. If wireless is on all the time then you need to charge the book every other day. If you switch off the wireless features then the battery will power the device for over a week.

It looks like a nice eBook reader with some handy built in tools. I have yet to compare the screen to that of the page on a book, but from what reports say, it is supposed to be just as easy on the eyes. Will it convert you away from paper books?

Rechargeable LED Reading Glasses

If you are still using an older Amazon Kindle (the one without the front-lit screen), or just a regular book then perhaps you need to get some of these rechargeable LED reading glasses.

The glasses contain a couple of bright LEDs that light up the pages of your book for up to 2.5 hours between charges, and as the name suggests, they are rechargeable as well.
