Amazon Kindle Slim Version Launching in August – Rumour

A new rumour about the Amazon Kindle has started. The rumours now circulate around an Amazon Kindle Slim version that will shave some of the bulk of the original model.

As well as being a thinner device, the third generation Amazon Kindle will also have a more responsive screen that will have a sharper picture. Neither touchscreen or colour will be included in the new slim Kindle.

Earlier this week the CEO of Amazon said that colour isn’t in the immediate future although it is being looked at. Perhaps we could see a colour Kindle next year although we are just speculating here. [Read more…]

Amazon Kindle 3rd Gen Could get Games

Some leaked information from Amazon indicates that a 3rd generation Amazon Kindle eBook reader could be launched later this year.

Amazon appears to be shifting towards games and social networks with it’s eBook reader. The main problem now is that the e-ink paper just doesn’t have the ability to achieve anything with fast movement or touch based applications. This is hinting that Amazon will launch a new generation Kindle with a superior touch screen.

It is believed that Amazon are shifting course due to the success of the Apple iPad that launched last month in the US. The 3rd generation device could do away with the e-ink screen to give a richer experience for users. Amazon Kindle App Coming to Android OS Smartphones

Amazon is releasing a Kindle App for Android OS smartphones. The application, like on other platforms, is free to download and will allow users to read Kindle eBooks on their Android device.

Just like other versions of the Kindle App, the Android version will also include the Whispersync function that allows all your devices running Kindle to be synchronised with bookmarks, annotations and where you were last reading.

‘Kindle for Android is the perfect companion application for Kindle and Kindle DX owners, and is also a great way for customers to enjoy over 540,000 books in the Kindle Store even if they don’t yet have a Kindle, said Jay Marine, director, Amazon Kindle. ‘We think customers are going to love the convenience and simplicity of having instant access to a massive selection of books from Amazon on their Droid, Nexus, Incredible and many more Android devices.

Amazon Kindle Coming to Target April 25

We are hearing reports today that the Amazon Kindle will be sold in brick-and-mortar stores starting with Target in the US.

The release date for the 6 inch Kindle is believed to be April 25 although this date hasn’t been confirmed just yet.

There are also no details regarding other stores potentially just selling the Kindle just yet, or if international stores will sell the Kindle. [Read more…]

Kindle for Apple iPad and Other Tablets Arrives

Amazon have launched another Kindle app, this time the application works on tablet based devices which includes the yet to be launched Apple iPad.

The applications include whispersync that allows notes and details of where you are reading to be synchronised with other Kindle apps or the actual Kindle it’s self.

Kindle for tablets allows you to fully control the screen brightness and change background colours and font sizes within the app to allow for more comfortable reading in varying light conditions.

Page turn animation replicates the look of turning a page in a book. Or choose Basic Reading Mode for a simpler and unadorned reading experience.

Kindle for Mac OS X 10.5+ now Available for Download

Amazon have announced that Kindle for Mac is now available for download. To get the software working you need to download at the link above and ensure you have a Mac running OS X 10.5 or above.

The Kindle software brings eBooks to your Mac and lets you read books from the Amazon bookstore without using an Amazon Kindle.

If you do have an Amazon Kindle, or another device that uses the Amazon Kindle software then when reading books on the Mac or another device, the last page viewed is synced with other devices allowing you to easily pick up the book from where you left off. Kindle for Blackberry Launched

Amazon have announced that Kindle for Blackberry is now available. The software allows you to access all your Kindle eBooks while on the move on your Blackberry and syncronises all data including annotations created on your Kindle or computer with your Blackberry smartphone.

The software is compatible with several Blackberry devices which includes the Bold 9000, Bold 9700, Curve 8520, Curve 8900, Storm 9530, Storm 9550 and Tour 9630 smartphones.

The application can be downloaded over at Amazon and once installed gives you access to browse over 400,000 books including 101 of the NYT best sellers. [Read more…]

M-Edge have created a new case for the Amazon Kindle called the Guardian. The Guardian is capable of protecting the Kindle from scratches as well as water. With this case around the Kindle you can take the device in to depths of up to 1 meter.

Amazon Kindle DX Goes Global

Amazon have announced the Kindle DX will be shipping with Global Wireless enabled allowing it to function in over 100 countries. The new version of the Kindle DX will start shipping on January 19 at a cost of $489.

The Kindle DX is an eBook reader that comes with a 9.7 inch eInk screen. Wireless connectivity is built in allowing you to download eBooks anywhere you can pick up a mobile phone signal.

Downloads take about 60 seconds to complete and once downloaded are stored on the device for you to read at any time. The DX is capable of storing around 3,500 books allowing a very healthy library of books to be carried in your bag. Amazon Kindle is the Biggest Selling Item at Amazon

amazon-kindle-2Amazon announced today that the Amazon Kindle is Novembers best selling item at their online store. They are also not just talking about best selling item in the Electronics category either… they mean it was the best selling product across all categories.

Amazon mentioned in a press release that the Kindle was the most gifted and most wished for item along side being the number 1 selling product.

For Amazon this must be fantastic news. There are no actual numbers provided in the press release, but considering it’s the best selling item for November we can assume that a good amount of units were shifted. Sales will have been helped by a number of factors including the Christmas season as well as the launch of the new Kindle that can be shipped and used internationally. [Read more…]

Kindle Software Update Version 2.3 Released

amazon-kindle-dxAmazon have released an update for the Amazon Kindle is said to increase battery life and provide the ability to read PDF documents as well as several other changes although it all depends which model you have to what new features and functions you get.

The new 2.3 Kindle update is designed for 2nd generation Kindles along with the Kindle DX. If you have a 1st generation device then you are stuck currently on version 1.2 of the software. [Read more…]

Amazon Kindle goes Global

feat-screen-kindlestoreIf you visit the Amazon.com home page today you;ll be presented with news that the Kindle is going global. First off the note explains that the Kindle will drop $40 in price for the normal US version which cost $299 and is now $259. This version of the Kindle will only be capable of downloading e-books while in the US. However, a second version of the 6″ e-book reader is also due out that will allow you to use the Kindle in other countries for downloading books. It will cost $20 more than the standard 6″ model at $279, but will be capable of downloading books in over 100 countries around the world.

It’s a good move forwards for Amazon and will be welcomed by users I suspect. By allowing users to download where ever they are will allow those away from the US to still be able to get new content when they want it. However, there is a downside… [Read more…]
