As well as announcing the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet, a new Amazon Kindle has also been announced. This new generation of eReader comes with a price tag of $79 (£89 in the UK) which is the first time the price has dropped below $100.

Amazon Kindle Fire Tablet Announced
Amazon has announced a new tablet called the Amazon Kindle Fire. The Kindle Fire is a step up from the regular Kindle in that it’s the first device from Amazon to have a colour screen and run the Android operating system.
Amazon Kindle Tablet to be Called Kindle Fire
TechCrunch has confirmed that the Amazon event being held tomorrow is for the Amazon Kindle tablet. However, the device will not be known as just the Kindle as expected. Instead, it will carry the name Amazon Kindle Fire. The reason for the slight name change is that the Amazon Kindle is normally an e-ink reader. The kindle Fire will be a Google Android OS based colour tablet. The name change distinguishes both devices from each other.
Most Magazines Sign On for Amazon Kindle Tablet
When the new Amazon Kindle tablet launches it will come with a number of magazine publishers signed up. It is believed that Hearst, Conde Nast and Meredith have signed deals to get their content on to the Amazon tablet. If you look back a year or so you might remember that a number of publishers also signed up for the iPad although it seems due to Apple asking a bit too much it has put some publishers off the platform.
What will the Kindle tablet have over the BlackBerry PlayBook?
The hype machine is in full effect. For the past few months rumors have circulated that Amazon is readying its first foray into the tablet market. They’re no newbies to the world of portable electronics, of course; the Kindle is its best selling product ever, and it is perhaps the most popular e-reader on the market. But the leap from e-book reader to fully functional tablet is no small one. Amazon, for its part, is prepared. They’re going to release the Kindle tablet at a competitive price point: likely $250 or below, which will put it on a different competitive plane than other tablets. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it will stack up feature-wise.
November Launch for Amazon Kindle Tablet is Likely
Since late last week we began getting a lot of decent info about the Amazon Kindle tablet. We found out that the price would likely be $250 when it launches and also found out that a 7 inch model would be launching alone in the beginning. We now hear that it will launch in November. Nothing is official just yet although Digitimes is reporting that orders are being made for the components and that the Kindle tablet is getting ready to be built.
Amazon Kindle Tablet Mockup
Last week more details of the Amazon Kindle tablet were revealed. The report came from TechCrunch who had apparently tested the device but were unable to post pictures of it. TechCrunch has now created a mockup of what the tablet might look like. In the previous report it was described as looking like a BlackBerry PlayBook. Take a look at the picture below:
Amazon Kindle Tablet Details Leaked
There’s been a lot of talk about Amazon getting in to the Tablet game over the last few months. Most reports hint at both 7 and 10 inch devices that will perhaps fall in to the Kindle name and be a tablet version of the popular Kindle reading device. TechCrunch managed to take a look at the device and have revealed a few details of what it’s all about.
Amazon Kindle Cloud Reader Launches for iPad, PC and Mac
Apple recently changed the terms of iOS which basically put in restrictions on purchasing products within an iOS app. After companies felt the terms were a bit harsh, Apple toned down the rules a bit. But the general problem is that apps like the Kindle App for iPad/iPhone couldn’t link direct to the Amazon store for book purchases. This means that users need to manually open up Safari, buy a book and then go back to the Kindle app to download and read it. Although the solution is still completely mobile, it just adds in awkward steps that didn’t go down well with some Kindle users.
KindleAir.com Domain Registered – Perhaps Amazons New Tablet
Amazon has purchased the domain name KindleAir.com. Amazon purchased it through a domain name service called MarkMonitor which has been used by the company in the past to obtain other domains.
Kindle for iPad and iPhone Updated – Kindle Store Button Removed
Amazon has updated the Kindle app for the iPhone and iPad today. The new update brings a few new features but also takes one away. The feature removed is the Kindle store button that takes users directly from the app to the store to buy books. This has been met by a bit of frustration by regular Kindle app users:
by GLutenFreeMel
You can no longer go to buy books or get samples directly from the app. Apple made them remove the store feature, but I can’t see myself using my kindle app on my phone or IPad anymore.
Another said the app has now just become unappealing.
Free Amazon Kindle Could Be in the Pipeline
An interesting analysis has been going around today that hints that the Kindle from Amazon could eventually be given away for free. Although it might seem bizarre that an electronic device with no subscription costs could be free and make money, I think there is some possibility in this.
Looking at the graph below, we see the price of the Kindle started around the $350 mark and then dropped in price three more times. This pricing almost perfectly followed a straight line on the graph. When looking forwards to the end of the year, some time in mid November will potentially see the Kindle being given away for free.
