EB710 Colour eBook Reader

The EB710 is a colour eBook reader that features a 7 inch TFT colour screen that is capable of displaying 800 x 480 pixels.

The manufacturer is believed to be NSECO who I don’t believe I have heard of before. Either way, the device looks quite interesting and certainly has a unique user interface from looking at the picture above.

As well as being able to read ebooks on the device, MP3 and video playback is possible. A USB 2.0 connector can be found on the device although there is no mention of wireless of 3G connectivity in the specifications. [Read more…]

Instapaper iPad App Unveiled

Instapaper is an application already available for the Apple iPhone and Kindle from Amazon. The company behind it have modified the application to better suit the Apple iPad and have submitted it for approval to the app store.

Due to having a larger screen, the application looks far better than on the iPhone due to more screen estate and being able to show more information on the larger screen.

For those of you unaware of Instapaper, it’s an application that allows you to bookmark articles that you come across on the internet and save them to read later. The system works by using a bookmarklet in your computer browser and if you want to read something later you simply click on it, where the article is then sent to your iPad for reading at a later date. Dell Streak Leaked

Information has been found about the Dell Streak (previously called the Dell Mini 5). Although it has been called the Dell Streak, this could also be just an internal name given by Dell prior to launch.

The Streak has a 5 inch screen that has a WVGA resolution capable of displaying 800 x 480 pixels. A 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and a flash is also included along with a front facing camera allowing for video calls over Skype for example.

It appears from the image above that the Streak will come in a variety of colours as well as being able to use the Design Studio to get art work on the back cover too. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Theme for iPhone

The iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad all use the same operating system although the iPad when launched will run version 3.2. There are a few differences in OS 3.2 which can now be put on to the Apple [AAPL] iPhone.

To achieve getting the 3.2 functionality on to OS 3.0 on the current iPhone you need to jailbreak your phone first. Once done you can simply install a number of apps that replicate the functions of the iPad such as a new iBooks Store, iWorks suite etc… [Read more…]

HP Slate Revealed at CES

At the Microsoft [MSFT] keynote at CES, Steve Ballmer showed off the new HP Slate that will be launching later this year. Not much information was provided about it although it was seen running the PC Kindle app. The HP Slate is Windows based (I assume Windows 7) and features multitouch.

Gaming can be done on the Slate but the only game shown on the demo was Frogger which isn’t really an intensive app.

The front of the devices houses the screen that looks to be somewhere between the 9 and 11 inch range along with a border around it. There are no buttons on the front of the HP Slate. Around the sides there are a few buttons which I assume are to wake it up, switch wireless on as well as changing the volume, but as this is currently a prototype this could potentially change. Apple iSlate Tablet – More Rumours

Although nothing official has been announced about the Apple Tablet (to probably be called the iSlate), there are still a number of rumours floating around which still suggest it will be announced this month. The latest information says that the engineers and companies working on the project have all dropped off the map in the same way the same companies did back in early 2007 when the first iPhone was being prepared for launch.

The drop off the map is described by Josh Gruber as a “cone of silence” and sees Apple going in to meetings with potential partners with no prototype or presentation where potential partners are asked if they were interested “if they were to create a new platform”. [Read more…]

Right now it’s just a prototype and it has a contrast ratio of just 10:1 making it not too clear at all. The screen also only has the ability to reproduce 7% of the NTSC colours. Yes, it could be a while before it goes in to production but it is a great step in the right direction.
