Amazon currently has a number of laptop deals for the month of September in its store. There are currently 18 laptop discounts available on the ASUS range which include the Republic of Gamers model, UL30 and a number of other variants.

Sony Reader eBook Devices Announced

Sony has launched three new Sony Reader devices which bring a number of new features to the table.

The first is the Sony Reader PRS-350 Pocket Edition. This particular model costs $179 and has a 5 inch screen. Next up is the Sony Reader PRS-650 Touch Edition that has a 6 inch screen which has a price tag of $229. Finally the Sony Reader PRS-950 Daily Edition is the 7 inch model that costs $299.

Price wise, they are quite expensive it seems, especially when comparing it to the Nook or Amazon Kindle that recently saw price drops. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 Seen Running Android 2.2

Yesterday, we came across a video of the Samsung Galaxy Tab being used on a train in Australia. The tablet seen in Sydney was the seven inch version of the yet to be announced tablet device.

More pictures have been revealed of the Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000. We believe this to be a separate model due to different language seen on the screen. The device is said to have a 1024 x 600 resolution screen along with a 3.2 megapixel camera. The case is made of a lightweight plastic. [Read more…]

Sony Reader eBooks to Last One-Third Longer Per Charge

A couple of new Sony Reader eBook devices are launching soon. We first heard about them a couple of weeks back where we expected them to be thinner than the current versions.

From what the poster above (larger below) shows, the two new Readers are called the Sony Reader Pocket Edition and the Sony Reader Touch Edition.

Each appears to have a new user interface. The pocket edition will have a 5 inch display while the touch edition will be a little larger at 6 inches. Other details include a couple of thousand extra page turns per charge taking it up to 10,000 page turns per battery. [Read more…]

Sony Reader eBook PRS-350 and PRS-650 Rumoured

Two new Sony Reader eBook devices could be launched soon if this rumour is to be believed. The two new models include the Sony PRS-350 and the PRS-650 which fall in line with the time of year that Sony updates it’s line of eBook readers.

Sony has a lot more competition at the moment with the launch of the new Amazon Kindle 3 with a very low price tag, and of course the Apple iPad with iBooks installed. Others who are gaining a strong presence include the Nook from Barnes & Noble as well as the Ectaco to name a few.

What we can expect to see from the Sony Reader eBooks is thinner devices, perhaps under 10mm in thickness as well as faster page turns and an improved contrast for better reading. [Read more…]

ASUS Eee Tablet Coming October for under $599

The ASUS Eee Tablet was introduced at the end of May this year. We now hear that it will launch in October of this year with a price tag under $599.

Originally we heard that the price tag would be $199 – $299 with a September launch. These lower prices of course could be related to subsidised prices though which would fall inline with about how much we’d expect to pay for a tablet with a carrier contract. [Read more…]

Netronix PocketBook 602 eBook Reader Unveiled

Netronix will soon release the PocketBook 602 eBook reader in the US. The FCC just approved the device for launch.

The PocketBook 602 has a six inch screen that uses e-Ink to display text and images. Processor wise it has a 532MHz Freescale ARM11 processor. Other features include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a 3G/3.5G wireless data connection. The OS running on the device is a custom build of Linux.

The eBook reader supports several file formats which include PDF, ePUB, FB2, HTML, TXT, PRC, MOBI, RTF, DOC, JPG, and MP3 file formats. [Read more…]

Pandigital Novel eReader Hacked to Run Google Android OS

The Pandigital Novel is an eBook reader that costs $179 off the shelf. It has a large 7 inch colour touchscreen and runs Google Android in the background that has a custom software interface on the top for reading eBooks.

Someone has managed to bypass the custom software to access Android direct which makes the eReader in to a nice 7 inch Android OS tablet.

Once the custom software is bypassed it allows apps to be installed such as the Amazon Kindle App and other eBook reader apps. Also it allows you to install games and most other apps that you can think of. [Read more…]

iRiver eBook Reader gets WiFi

The iRiver Story eBook reader when launched lacked the connectivity it needed for those who wanted to grab books whilst on the move. iRiver has included an update on the latest model which sees the eBook reader now get a WiFi connection built in.

As well as gaining WiFi, the Story eBook reader also connects up to the WH Smiths online ebook store allowing users to grab books wherever they are.

The wireless addition is the only addition to the latest version whos other specs have remained identical. It’s still a nice upgrade though for those who wanted the iRiver Story but held back due to the lack of connectivity. [Read more…]

Sony Readers See Price Drops

Recently Amazon has dropped the price of the Kindle. The new Kindle that comes in Graphite, has dropped $110 to $379 while the smaller model dropped to $189. Barnes and Noble also dropped the price of the Nook to $149 (wifi model – 3G dropped to $199). Sony seems to be following by dropping the price of the Sony Reader. Samsung Vibrant Android Smartphone Comes to T-Mobile US

T-Mobile has announced that it will be offering the Samsung Galaxy S. On the T-Mobile network it will be known as the Samsung Vibrant and launched July 21 on to the network.

When launched the Samsung Vibrant will come with Avatar pre-loaded on to the 2GB memory card as well as a collectors edition of a game. Amazon Kindle for Android is also pre-installed on the phone allowing you to easily grab books for reading while on the go.

The technical specs show that the Samsung Vibrant will have a 4 inch Super AMOLED display that has a high resolution. A 1GHz processor is to be found inside also built by Samsung (Cortex A8 Hummingbird Application Processor). Also a six-axis accelerometer can be found inside that detects movement on the phone for games and screen orientation. [Read more…]

Apple iPad iBookstore gets More Premium Content

A couple of days ago the iBooks application for the iPad was made available in iTunes ready for download. Up till yesterday evening, the only books available were the free ones that have fallen out of copyright.

When checking this morning, we see that the regular eBooks have now populated the shelves of the iBookstore. When looking at the chart section we see it is split in to two sections of the top paid books and top free books with many popular books found in both sides of the screen. [Read more…]
