Apple iPad Doesn’t have Flash

When the Apple [AAPL] iPad promotional video launched it showed the iPad tablet browsing the New York Times webpage along with Adobe Flash content integrated. This caused some interest around the web as people started to believe that the iPad would support flash content which would then lead to the iPhone and iPod Touch also including it as they will run from the same OS soon.

However, it seems like Apple’s marketing department actually added the flash content in manually to the final cut of the video as the more accurate result is that you should see a blue brick asking you to install flash. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Theme for iPhone

The iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad all use the same operating system although the iPad when launched will run version 3.2. There are a few differences in OS 3.2 which can now be put on to the Apple [AAPL] iPhone.

Apple iPad – All the Details on the new Tablet

Today, Apple [AAPL] finally made their tablet device official and gave it the name Apple iPad. The iPad has a 9.7 inch LCD capacitive touchscreen with IPS technology. The full device measures 9.56 inches tall, 7.47 inches wide and 0.5 inches thick and weighs 1.5 or 1.6 pounds depending on if you choose the 3G model or not.

Back on to the display, it has a high resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels at 132 pixels per inch. The glossy screen is covered in a fingerprint resistant oleophobic coating.

Two different versions of the iPad will be made available. The first is a Wi-Fi version that is compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n networks. The second iPad model has an integrated 3G connection built in allowing it to connect to a number of networks which includes UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz) as well as GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz) networks. The 3G model also has the same wireless functionality built in as well as Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR that is included on both models.

Location based services are also available on the iPad and a built in digital compass can be found along with Assisted GPS, Cellular tracking and Wi-Fi tracking. [Read more…]

iPhone iSketch Application Launched

iSketch is a new iPhone app that was developed by an 11 year old called Cameron. The iSketch application was written so that a portion of it’s earnings could be sent to the Mattel Childrens Hospital UCLA in Westwood and Santa Monica.

There are a few things interesting here though, the first is that an 11 year old managed to create what looks to be a great little app, and secondly that it was approved. Both are challenges in themselves. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone Steadicam Mount

The Tiffen Company have launched a new Steadicam device called the Steadicam Smoothee that is designed to work with the iPhone 3G S. The Smoothee is a miniature version of the full sized steadicam mounts used in movies to prevent handheld cameras from moving around too fast while filming.

By mounting the iPhone 3G S in to the Smoothee the camera shake is gone allowing for smoother video to be made.

Apple File TouchScreen Patent for Next Gen iPhone and Mac-Tablet

A new patent was published yesterday morning that shows an insight what Apple could be coming up with for the next few months. The title of the image above indicates that the next gen iPhone could have an advanced touchscreen. Also the patent indicates that iPod Touch and MacBooks as well as a MacBook tablet device are also to be included in this.

‘Apple’s patent generally relates to displays having pixels that include capacitive elements, and more particularly to displays in which capacitive elements of the pixels that form part of the display system that generates an image on the display also form part of a touch sensing system that senses touch events on or near the display.”

Pioneer AVIC X920BT In-Car Sat Nav System

The Pioneer AVIC X920BT is an in-car satnav system designed for a double-DIN slot. It has a large 6.1 inch screen that has a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels and is touch-screen too. Above the screen a slot loading CD drive can be found next to a microSD slot I guess for using a card full of MP3 audio files to play while on the move.

Down the left of the large screen all the controls can be found that includes volume, home, mode and track selections for the audio. The navigation part of the system I assume at this point is all touch-screen based. [Read more…]

Google Nexus One Teardown

iFixit managed to quickly get their hands on the new phone from Google [GOOG] called the Nexus One that was announced and put on sale yesterday.

The Google Nexus One has a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor inside and has a very nice 3.7 inch 480 x 800 WVGA AMOLED screen that has capacitive touch. Google describe the phone as being a “superphone” due to a few features not currently found on other Android phones.

As always, iFixit were very quick to break apart the $530 phone to see what was inside. Tools required to get the phone apart included the iPod Opening Tools, a T4 Torx Screwdriver and a Philips #00 Screwdriver. [Read more…]

Pocketheat iPhone App that Warms your Hands

If you live in a house where the heating doesn’t really warm your hands then this iPhone application is designed for you. Pocketheat is an application that you can download that runs processes forcing your iPhones CPU to run at 100% while switched on. When running the processor at 100% the iPhone warms up slightly and can in theory keep your hands a tad warmer.

Reviewers have described the application as providing a pleasant but brief warmth to your palms.

The screen of the Pocketheat application looks like a heater and has a knob where you can turn the temperature from low to high, I assume taking the iPhone to various levels of CPU usage depending on how warm you want it to get. [Read more…]
