Just a few days ago Geohot showed a video of an iPod Touch running OS 3.1.3 being jailbreaked. Not only was the jailbreak successful, it also didn’t come with the requirement that the iPhone, iPod (or even iPad) be tethered to a computer to run.

We have just found out about a new jailbreak this time from hacker Comex who has created a jailbreak that works OTA. When launched it will require you visit a website where you can then apply the jailbreak on to your 3.1.3 OS iPhone or other Apple device that runs the OS.

Although neither Geohot or Comex have released their jailbreak software yet, it is expected that now two potential unlock systems are being worked on that each will probably/hopefully rush to getting theirs launched. [Read more…]

Digg have finally launched their iPhone application that brings the social network to the Apple [AAPL] device.

The application is free to download and can be grabbed from the usual sources (the App Store on the phone or iTunes) and once installed allows you to see all the latest Digg content on your iPhone or iPod Touch device. Although we assume it will work on the Apple iPad resized to fit the screen, it is unclear at the moment if Digg are working on a specific Apple iPad version of the software.

To get started on the application after it is installed you just need to log in with your regular Digg account and once done, you have access to the features that you would be able to use on the full website version along with details of what pages you have digged and those friends you have. StyleTap iPhone has finally been released. The StyleTap application is designed for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch and allows you to run the Palm OS interface on your Apple [AAPL] device.

Before you go ahead and purchase/install it you need to note a few things. First off, it requires you to jailbreak your device (if you haven’t already) and needs virmware v3.x or above to run. Also note that if you are running iPhone OS 3.1.3 then you can’t currently jailbreak your device. Also if you decide to install an official update you’ll also loose the jailbreak and loose access to the software. With that in mind lets take a look at what it does…

The Zipcharge Quick Charger is another device that allows you to charge up your mobile phone, PDA or MP3 player while on the move.

The device is available over at Firebox where they claim the charger can charge a phone up to four times quicker than a regular lithium-ion charger. Just 15 minutes of charging time is capable of giving your iPod another 20 hours of music playback and a standard mobile phone about 10 hours of talk time. Obviously those numbers won’t match up for the iPhone and other large screen smartphone devices, but for a smaller phone that requires a lot less battery juice to keep running it certainly will come in handy. AutoTrader have launched a new app for the Apple iPhone called the Autotrader iPhone App (UK version) that allows you to capture a picture of a licence plate which is then scanned in by the application to find the make and model of the car. Once done you have access to details on that particular model of car such as how it performs as well as reviews.

Another cool option in the application is the ability to scan through local listings of used and new cars that match the make and model allowing you to find a car nearby.

As well as being able to find reviews, performance details and new/used cars in the local area for sale, the application also gives information on how much the car costs on average around the area. [Read more…]

For those using TomTom on the Apple iPhone, the software has just received an update today taking it from version 1.2 to 1.3. New features included in the iPhone TomTom 1.3 package include HD Traffic updates, better integration with the phone and iPod functions of the device.

We are hearing today that Apple [AAPL] are working on their latest iPhone OS numbered 4.0. The new OS still has a way to go before being launched, but it seems like multitasking is going to be included for 3rd party apps. Currently there are a few apps built by Apple that can multi task such as email and iPod to name a couple.

The current OS 3.x does multitask, but 3rd party apps are prevented artificially for various reasons such as security. If they open it up there could be problems with applications accessing other applications etc…

Other problems caused with multitasking are to do with memory assignment and battery life. When applications are loaded up there has to be some communication between apps on what memory allocations can be used. Also battery life suffers having to handle the extra CPU load. [Read more…]
