Concept of the MacBook Touch

MacBook-Touch-ConceptFor a fun product management class over at Georgia State University, students decided to create a concept video showing what a MacBook Touch would look like. The presentation starts off with an old Mac from 1984 then quickly moves to the iPod in 2001 and then the iPhone a few years after that at which point the MacBook Touch is displayed.

The Tablet features (as a concept) has a multi-touch interface, large screen, cover flow and a transparent on-screen keyboard. [Read more…]

iPod Video Around the Corner?

iPod-VideoA rumour is out and about today indicating that iPod’s might be getting embedded video cameras built in. TechCrunch report that a huge order of cheap $10 cameras have been ordered by Apple. Apple are expected to sell 20 million iPhones this year and about 3+ Million iPods/month. If Apple were to include cameras on their range of iPod’s then that 3+ Million per month would give the low end video market a run for it’s money. [Read more…]

iPhone Stylus and Touchscreen Cleaning Kit

iphone-stylus-screen-cleaner-1All touchscreen phones have the problem that they somehow magically suck grease and finger prints from the air, even when you don’t touch the screen. If your phone suffers that problem, which I am sure it does, then check out this iPhone Stylus and Touchscreen cleaning kit.

iphone-stylus-screen-cleanerThe cleaning kit has a small reservoir of cleaning stuff stored inside that makes it’s way down to a sponge that is found of the end of it. Pop off the cap and you have the perfect screen cleaning tool that can clean your PSP, iPod, iPhone and any other smartphone or anything with a screen full-stop. Once you clean the screen with the sponge you use the carrying case to clean off the surface and buff it clean. The case is a micro-fibre case that makes it a good material for cleaning.

Now that you have a completely clean iPod screen you can now use the integrated stylus to tap away on the screen rather then using your fingers.

Overall… A very handy accessory available from Firebox costing £7.95 currently.

Apple Patent – Illuminated Touch Pad for Visual Feedback

Visual Touch Pad
A Patent for Apple was filed August last year and approved yesterday. The patent is for an Illuminated Touch Pad which appears that the light panel will be capable of emitting light in localized areas of the input surface. What this means is basically visual feed back which when you touch the scroll wheel on an iPod, the touch wheel will light up under your finger to visually show what just happened with the light actually following your finger around the dial. As well as the touch wheel being illuminated, the button in the middle will also light up too to show the actions on what it is doing.

Timex iPod Remote Control – The Ironman

ironman-icontrol
The Ironman iControl is an iPod remote control which connects direct you various iPod’s and the iPhone (We assume the iPod Touch also). It allows you to control your iPod while running with out having to move your head to look at the iPod on your arm. It works by plugging in a small wireless device in to the iPod which then allows it to be controlled by the watch. Nice idea! It costs about $80 from Amazon.

Ironman iControl Compatibility:

* iPod 5th generation (video)
* iPod Nano 2nd generation (aluminium) 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB
* iPod 5th generation (video) 60GB and 80GB

New iPods

Three new iPods
At Apples Keynote yesterday there were a number of cool announcements about iPods. The first is the iPod shuffle which will be getting a few new colours and will cost the same at $79 for a 1GB version.

iPod Nano

The next iPod in the lineup is the iPod Nano which has gone through a bit of a shape shift and now sports a nice wide screen at 2 inches running 320 x 240 pixels. The cost of a new Nano will be $149 for a 4GB model and $199 for an 8GB version. These will be in store this weekend.

iPod Classic

The regular iPod is now named the iPod Classic and is available in silver and black (no white). The 80GB version will cost $249 and has 30 hours of audio playback and 5 hours of video from the battery. The beefy 160GB version is beefy in storage, thicker then the 80GB version, but thinner then the old 80GB version and will cost $349. It can hold 40000 songs, has a 40 hour ability when playing audio and 7 hours of video playback on its battery.

iPod Touch

The iPod touch is one I am looking forwards to. Its like an iPhone but without the phone. It has Wi-Fi, Safari, Cover flow and is flash based only. It measures at 8mm thick and has either 8GB of flash which runs at $299 or there is a 16GB model running at $399 which isnt too bad. I personally wish the touch had a 160GB HDD in it even if it did make it slightly thicker.

The iPhone is also set to have a price drop which is good news too.

Which one will you be choosing?
