3rd Gen iPod touch With Camera Spotted on eBay

There’s around 1 day and 13 hours left for you to get your hands on a 3rd gen iPod touch with a built in camera on the back.

It is believed that the actual product is real, in that Apple [AAPL] created it. However, the specific model with a camera was never launched last year. Rumours about the lack of camera on the 3rd gen model include the blame on a shortage of cameras which meant it had to hit the shelves camera-less.

The details in the auction, found here, indicate that the camera doesn’t actually work due to a lack of software although the seller does say that when the next gen iPod touch 4 is launched in a few weeks time, the software should allow this camera to start working. [Read more…]

iPod touch 4 Screen Captured

MacRumors recently was sent some images of what the source claims to be the front LCD and bezel of the upcoming iPod touch 4.

The parts look similar in design to the iPhone 4 although the speaker gap is missing. What we do notice is that a small hole is cut out on the top side right in the middle which could indicate that FaceTime for the iPod touch is incoming. This goes in-line with what we heard recently when some screen grabs of FaceTime being configured by email address was spotted which indicated a slightly different method is needed to activate a FaceTime call on the iPod or iPad. Apple Peel 520 iPod touch Phone Case

The Apple Peel 520 case is designed for the iPod touch and has been designed to turn the iPod touch in to an iPhone. The case of course is not an official Apple [AAPL] product and from what we have heard, it isn’t 100% perfect, but it does allow you to put a SIM card inside the case and make calls from the iPod touch.

Price wise, it will set you back about $57 when it launches although the product reviewed over at PCOnline is a prototype as the final models are not ready for launch just yet. [Read more…]

iPod touch 4 Case Mockup

Apple [AAPL] could be launching a new iPod touch 4 in the next month or so. The reason for this belief is that a photo illustration of an iPod touch 4 in a case has been revealed that indicates a new version with a camera is coming.

What happens here is that Apple send out technical specs (as in CAD details) to those companies who will be making cases. The drawings don’t show the device in details other than sizes of each part. With this information it appears that a company has created a mockup of what a case and iPod touch within that case will look like.

It’s hard to make out exactly what’s happening in the render, but it appears that “if” the iPod represents a new device then it will keep the curved back rather than a glass back of the iPhone 4. We also see the addition of a camera and possibly a flash also which is one of the wanted features on the device. [Read more…]

FaceTime Coming to iPod touch and iPad

FaceTime is currently only available on the iPhone 4 and only can be used when calling another iPhone 4 device.

Apple [AAPL] is bringing FaceTime to other devices though. The main question is based around how it will work though with iPod touch devices not having a phone number. BGR managed to get the details which show that your Apple ID will be registered with your device and when someone wants to connect with FaceTime to you, they simply use your email address.

By using push notifications it will allow incoming FaceTime requests to pop up on the iPod touch and other iDevices allowing calls to be initiated. [Read more…]

Next Gen iPod Touch could get Front Facing Camera

When Apple [AAPL] launch the next-gen iPod touch, it is likely to follow the same design as the iPhone 4. We also expect that features from the iPhone 4 will also be added to the new touch such as a front facing camera, perhaps a retina display and a faster CPU.

The front facing camera rumour has been further strengthened by some leaked shots that show a glass iPhone 4 style front with what looks to be a camera hole in the middle at the front.

Two pictures were captured with one showing the glass and the LCD and the other just showing the glass, both with a small hole in the middle top of the unit. On the iPhone 4 the middle top section is where the speaker sits with a camera just to the left. The iPod touch of course doesn’t need a speaker at that point, so shifting the camera to the middle does make sense. [Read more…]

iOS 4 Jailbreak Arrives for iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G

The iPhone DevTeam yesterday launched a new unlock for iOS 3.1.3 that allows any iPhone running the now older OS to unlock the phone.

As well as releasing an unlock for the older 3.1.3 iOS, the team also launched the iOS 4 Jailbreak. The Jailbreak is only compatible on iPod Touch second gen and the iPhone 3G (not the 3GS just yet). We are expecting that the 3GS will be jailbroke soon though.

As with all iOS jailbreaks in the past, Redsn0w makes it simple in that you tether your phone, load up a program and the jailbreak is applied. [Read more…]

Apple iPod Touch gets Camera

The Vietnamese site Tinhte.vn has managed to get another breaking news story where the guys there managed to get hold of an Apple iPod Touch with a rear facing camera. The new iPod Touch looks the same as the previous iPod Touch other than the addition of a camera on the back.

The iPod Touch has been captured on video to give a brief demonstration of what it can do. However, it appears that the Touch is still in some sort of diagnostic mode similar to what the iPhone 4G was although the Touch gets to a very basic graphical interface that is usable. The camera seems to function as it should although there was no interface specifically for the camera to be used in. Instead, a group of icons showing various functions of the phone are displayed on this prototype model with a video feed in to one of the icons. [Read more…]

Androis OS runs on iPod Touch

Just a few weeks ago we came across a guy who successfully loaded up an Android OS build on to an iPhone 2G. Shortly after the same happened to the iPhone 3G. We now heard that the iPod Touch is now running Android.

The iPod Touch used here is the first-gen model and although the port is currently working, there are still a few loose ends that need closing off.

Meanwhile, I am working on some stuff that is slightly more fun. Last night, I brought openiboot for the first-generation iPod touch up to scratch so that it supports all the features the other ports of openiboot support: sound, multitouch and SDIO (for WLAN) are the notable things I had to fix. Earlier today, I figured out how to drive the piezoelectric tweeter on the iPod touch.
