Supersize your iPhone in to an Apple iPad

If the $499 price tag of the cheapest Apple iPad is too much for you then perhaps this alternative might work for you. The iDock XL is simply a 10 inch screen that you dock your iPhone in to and it makes the image on the iPhone in to an image slightly over the size of the iPad.

Some may argue that the iPad is just a blown up iPod Touch (or iPhone) and with that in mind, this is why the iDock XL was created. Problem is that it just doesn’t quite look the part.

The unit costs £149 which is cheaper than an iPad (assuming even Apple [AAPL] wont make the UK iPad price that unbelievable) and allows you to dock either the iPod Touch or iPhone inside. [Read more…]

Opera Mini iPhone App Approved and Ready for Download

Opera have announced that their Opera Mini browser for the iPhone and iPod Touch has now been approved by Apple [AAPL]. The application is being made available over the next 24 hours depending on where you are. I tested in the UK just now and it was available to download for free.

The application was submitted to Apple on March 23 shortly after Mobile World Congress (where it was first demoed). After many people speculating that it wouldn’t be approved, we actually find now it actually is.

The Opera Mini iPhone browser comes with quite a big claim too with Opera saying it is capable of being up to 6 times faster that the native Safari Browser built in to the iPhone. This is all thanks to using server side compression of HTML and images making sure that the actually downloaded data is kept as small as possible, thus saving download time needed. [Read more…]

Apple to Remove Rate on Delete on iPhone OS

When deleting applications on the Apple iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, you are presented with a message whereby you can give the deleted application a rating. When prompted by the message you have two options… either to rate or not rate the application.

This rating feature on app deletion was added on iPhone OS 2.2 but a problem has now been spotted with how this actually works. The rating system it’s self works in a technical way as in, you give it how many stars you want out of and the rating is recorded and averaged out to give a result… but the problem is that people more often than not, delete applications when they are unhappy with it… meaning the ratings of apps can be skewed towards the lower amount of stars as those who are happy with the app wont delete it and wont be prompted to rate it. Apple iPhone OS 4 – Multitasking Official

Today, Apple [AAPL] announced iPhone OS 4 and along with that, the ability it brings to the iPhone 3GS to multitask. Note that we say iPhone 3GS as the older iPhone 3G and below will not support multitasking. Also OS 4 will work on the 3rd gen iPod Touch (ie, late 2009 models).

Another interesting step for Apple here is that they are delaying iPhone OS 4 for iPad owners till fall rather than when the rest of the Apple products will get it in the summer. We are not sure the reasons for this but if we find out, we’ll provide an update.

Before we mention all the new features of iPhone OS 4, we thought we’d also mention that 450,000 Apple iPads have shipped since it’s launch last week. That’s quite a success. [Read more…]

Mini iPad Coming 2011? – Rumour

Digitimes have reported that Apple [AAPL] are working on a mini iPad and are planning to launch it in the first quarter of 2011.

They also go on to say that the mini iPad will have a 5 to 7 inch screen and be priced below $400 when launched.

Kuo, citing talks with upstream component sources, said Apple’s smaller-size iPad will be priced below US$400 and will target the highly-portable mobile device market and consumers that focus mainly on reading and do not have a high demand for text input.

Apple iPad gets Jailbreak on day 2

In just hours of going on sale, the Apple iPad has been jailbroke. The iPad Jailbreak was accomplished by key people on the Dev Team who made the jailbreak happen from some earlier work on a solution called Spirit.

Although jailbreaking the device in just a few hours might seem like a quick task, the team had already prepared on the iPhone and iPod touch that run the same iPhone OS as the iPad, so it was expected that the jailbreak would happen same day.

With the Apple [AAPL] device now being jailbroke, it shouldn’t be too long before a stable build of the software is created allowing for others to jailbreak their devices. No official date has been given yet though and perhaps, the team will be inclined to wait for the launch of the iPad Wi-Fi+3G model later this month. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone OS 3.1.3 gets new Jailbreak – Spirit on it’s Way

Just a few days ago Geohot showed a video of an iPod Touch running OS 3.1.3 being jailbreaked. Not only was the jailbreak successful, it also didn’t come with the requirement that the iPhone, iPod (or even iPad) be tethered to a computer to run.

We have just found out about a new jailbreak this time from hacker Comex who has created a jailbreak that works OTA. When launched it will require you visit a website where you can then apply the jailbreak on to your 3.1.3 OS iPhone or other Apple device that runs the OS.

Although neither Geohot or Comex have released their jailbreak software yet, it is expected that now two potential unlock systems are being worked on that each will probably/hopefully rush to getting theirs launched. [Read more…]

Apple iPad approved App list Leaked

Padgadget have been hunting around the iTunes database recently where they uncovered some interesting details of applications that were available for download that looked to be tuned specifically for the Apple iPad. The hunt revealed that several apps were marked with HD at the end of their titles and when trying to download a message said that they were unavailable at the moment in a specific country.

The information didn’t come from the regular iTunes store or from the App Store on the Apple [AAPL] iPhone. Instead, padgadget were using the web based interface where the titles were mixed in with thousands of regular iPhone and iPod Touch titles.

Although only a handfull or two apps were found at the time (due to there being thousands upon thousands of apps which takes too long to hunt through), the titles which were found are listed below… [Read more…]

Digg iPhone App Launches

Digg have finally launched their iPhone application that brings the social network to the Apple [AAPL] device.

The application is free to download and can be grabbed from the usual sources (the App Store on the phone or iTunes) and once installed allows you to see all the latest Digg content on your iPhone or iPod Touch device. Although we assume it will work on the Apple iPad resized to fit the screen, it is unclear at the moment if Digg are working on a specific Apple iPad version of the software.

To get started on the application after it is installed you just need to log in with your regular Digg account and once done, you have access to the features that you would be able to use on the full website version along with details of what pages you have digged and those friends you have. StyleTap iPhone Launched – Brings Palm OS to the iPhone

StyleTap iPhone has finally been released. The StyleTap application is designed for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch and allows you to run the Palm OS interface on your Apple [AAPL] device.

Before you go ahead and purchase/install it you need to note a few things. First off, it requires you to jailbreak your device (if you haven’t already) and needs virmware v3.x or above to run. Also note that if you are running iPhone OS 3.1.3 then you can’t currently jailbreak your device. Also if you decide to install an official update you’ll also loose the jailbreak and loose access to the software. With that in mind lets take a look at what it does…

SkyleTap Platform allows you to run 30,000 applications that were written for Palm OS on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Applications that were written for the Palm OS 5.2 platform or earlier are compatible with StyleTap and this includes programs that use native ARM code (PNOs or ARMlets). [Read more…]
