Apple Patent Reveals Clip on Zoom Lens for iOS Devices

Apple [AAPL] might be launching a clip on zoom lens for iOS devices. The information comes from a patent found by Patently Apple that reveals a small attachment that clips to a device such as the iPod touch or iPhone.

We have seen a few different third-party lenses before for the iPhone, but none of them were officially created by Apple.

It is unknown at the moment if Apple will move ahead with the idea, or if it will just stay an idea. We suspect that with the increasing pace that technology changes that a need for this type of lens might be irrelevant if the glass and optics of the small cameras can be enhanced enough within the body of the phone. iMovie App Updated for iOS 4.1

The iPhone iMovie app has been updated with the launch of iOS 4.1. The latest version of iMovie (version 1.1) has a number of new features that improve on the software. The first is that it is now compatible with the latest iPod touch.

The ability to split clips has also been introduced which was a problem before as you had to keep jumping out of iMove to go to the photos app to split video.

iOS 4.1 Download Now Available

Earlier this evening (UK time), Apple [AAPL] launched the iOS 4.1 update and it is now ready for download.

To get the update you just need to sync your compatible iPhone with iTunes and click the check for updates button. The process takes around 10 – 15 minutes to download, reboot and install the latest iOS on to the iPhone. Once done, you’ll get HDR photos, access to Game Center and a few other smaller details.

The new iOS version isn’t a major update, but does bring a few handy features to the iPhone. [Read more…]

Archos 10 Inch Android Tablet – $300

Archos is releasing a 10.1 inch Android OS based tablet. The 10.1 inch tablet joins a few other tables ranging from a 2.8 inch screen size up to the larger 10.1 inch screen.

The 10.1 inch Archos tablet is the one designed to tackle the iPad. Spec wise, it has a 16:9 aspect ratio screen, a metal frame to make it rigid, runs Android 2.2 Froyo and gives access to 5,000 apps in the market.

Memory capacity for the $300 model is 8GB while the larger capacity 16GB model will cost $350 when launched. [Read more…]

Nike+ GPS App Requires No External Sensor

Nike has created a new Nike+ app for the iPhone and iPod touch that lets users track their running progress without using the external sensor attached to a shoe.

The new app called Nike+ GPS is compatible with the iPhone 4, 3GS and the iPod touch 2nd gen through 4th gen. Of course the iPod touch doesn’t have a GPS sensor. For those with a touch, you’ll be restricted to tracking runs through the accelerometer which means you wont get maps of your run (unless you have an external GPS case). [Read more…]

iPad Video Calls Spotted on Debug Screen

The iPad 2 when launched next year, is expected to have a couple of cameras installed. One of which will be used for FaceTime calling.

iOS 4.2 iPad Page Goes Live at Apple

Apple [AAPL] has uploaded a new page to it’s website that provides the official details of iOS 4.2 for iPad. The iOS 4.2 release date is November this year which will bring everything to iPad which includes multi-tasking, folders as well as the ability to print among a number of other enhancements.

On the official iOS 4.2 page, Apple mention that over 100 enhancements will be added to the iPad with the update. These features include the much wanted multitasking that allows you to switch quickly between apps. This works exactly how it does on the iPhone running iOS 4.

Folders is another feature wanted by many. Folders also works the same was as the iPhone/iPod touch running iOS 4 in that you drag 1 icon on to another to create a folder. [Read more…]

Skyfire for iPhone Waiting for Approval – Will Bring Flash to iPhone

Skyfire is a browser that is capable of playing flash content on the iPhone. The way it works is that Skyfire has a cloud server which recognises content on a page is flash. The server then converts the flash to HTML 5 content on the fly (when the user wants to play flash content). The content is then streamed down to the user to view when needed.

When converting the content from Flash to HTML 5, the system is capable of compressing the file size making the content as small as 25% of the original size. [Read more…]

Apple AirPlay

Apple AirPlay is a service that lets you stream music around your home over wireless networks. The technology will be integrated in to a number of devices such as speaker docks, AV receivers and stereo systems.

Say you have one set of speakers in your bedroom, one in the office, and one in the living room. For the ultimate sonic panorama, you can stream your tunes to more than one room simultaneously, so you’ll never lose the beat, no matter where you are in the house. Just select “Multiple Speakers” from the speaker pulldown menu in iTunes. AirPlay works over Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection, or a combination of both. Apple [AAPL] announced iTunes 10 with Ping today. The new version brings a number of new features to the desktop application.

The new iTunes 10 application brings music-orientated social networking to users. Ping lets you post your thoughts and opinions on music and songs that can be shared with other users.

iOS 4.1 Release Date – Week Beginning September 6

Apple [AAPL] announced today that iOS 4.1 is launching next week (second week of September).

iOS 4.1 is for the iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4 and newer generation iPod touch devices. The new iOS 4.1 fixes the slowness problems found in the iPhone 3G and brings a number of new features, or enhanced features to the iOS devices. Note that this version is not for the iPad.
