Today saw the launch of iOS 4.2 for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. With this launch the MobileMe Find My iPhone app became available for free as a service for iPad, iPhone 4 and the latest generation iPod touch users. Although that’s all well and good, it does leave out older generation devices from using the free service.

LifeHacker has put together a guide that allows you to activate Find My iPhone on the iPhone 3GS and any other older generation device. This is by no means a way to “get past the approved system” but an actual official way to get it working on the older generation devices. [Read more…]

AirPrint Hacktivator Enabled iOS Air Print Service

We are still unclear exactly how Apple will launch AirPrint in iOS 4.2. At the moment, the last we heard was that shared printers are now not supported and the only way to print from the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch is to print to one of ten AirPrint compatible wireless HP printers.

If this continues to be the case then you might want to test out AirPrintHacktivator that manages to re-enable the service. To get it to work you’ll need a Mac along with the latest Max OS X 10.6.5 as well as iOS 4.2 GM of course. [Read more…]

Run Android on your iPad with OpeniBoot

OpeniBoot is some software that allows you to run the Google Android OS on your iPad or iPhone 4, or what we should say is that it will eventually be the doorway to letting you install Android on iOS devices.

The software is still in early stages of development and not quite ready yet from what we understand. However, a video has been created (and embedded below) that shows OpeniBoot opening up an iPad for usage. What OpeniBoot is, is the open source version of the bootrom on iOS devices. When injected in to the iPad/iPhone/iPod touch, it allows unsigned code to be booted on to the device, ie, Android could be booted. [Read more…]

Apple AirPrint via Mac/Windows Could Be Delayed

AppleInsider has reported that AirPrint in iOS 4.2 could be delayed indefinitely for those who would connect up to a printer on a Windows or Mac based device. Rather than being able to print to a shared printer as originally planned, it seems that this feature might be pulled out of iOS 4.2 and instead of using shared printers, the system might only work with wireless printers in the HP range.

Specifically, the five models mentioned are the following…

* HP Photosmart Premium Fax e-All-in-One Printer – C410
* HP Photosmart Premium e-All-in-One Printer series – C310
* HP Photosmart Plus e-All-in-One Printer series – B210
* HP ENVY 100 e-All-in-One Printer Series – D410
* HP Photosmart eStation Printer series – C510″
