White models of Apple’s new iPhone® 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.

T-Mobile to get iPhone in Q3 2010 – Rumor

We’ve had a few weeks of no details regarding the iPhone moving to other networks in the US. A few weeks ago we heard it was getting close to arriving at Verizon [VZ] and now we hear again (perhaps the second time this year) that T-Mobile will be getting the iPhone from Apple [AAPL].

This rumour (pinch of salt required) indicates that T-Mobile US are very close to closing a deal with Apple which would see the end of the AT&T exclusivity.

T-Mobile USA is very close to getting the iPhone in the fall, ending Apple’s exclusive relationship with AT&T, according to a highly placed source at the wireless company.

Talks between Apple and T-Mobile are at an advanced stage, our source says, and it’s 80 percent likely that the iPhone will be coming to T-Mobile in Q3.

Apple Indicated the Free iPhone Case to fix Signal Problems will Cost $175M

Apple [AAPL] last week revealed in the press conference that they were to provide a free case to all iPhone 4 owners and all those who plan to buy an iPhone 4 up till September 30. At that point the situation will be re-evaluated.

On the earnings call yesterday a question was asked about the free case and the impact it will have…

“Any way to quantify the impact of the free bumpers on next quarter?”

To which an answer came…

“Two impacts. We will need to defer revenue for the iPhone 4s that we’ve sold where we’ve not delivered the bumpers and we haven’t heard from the customers. Our estimate is $175 million. We will expense the cost of the bumpers when we ship them to customers. Our most important objective is to take care of every customer and delight them.” [Read more…]

The iOS 4 compatible app when running on the iPhone 4, makes use of the built-in gyroscope to add a more silky smooth layer on top of the video feed. Previous versions for the 3GS etc… were a little jerky whilst running. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 FaceTime Used in the Pacific Ocean

We have previously seen the iPhone 4 FaceTime feature used when flying in a plane. The next video shows FaceTime being used from a boat 1000 miles away from any land in the Pacific Ocean.

The video call was made to Santa Cruz and uses a satellite connection that is commonly found on those who sail across the sea. The results are quite amazing when looking at the quality of the video stream and hearing the voice quality.

The sound does drop out slightly a few times but that could be related to it being hands free and surrounding noises muting the sound a little. [Read more…]
