Facebook on iPhone has 44 Million Users

Facebook has announced that 44 million iPhone users actively use the Facebook for iPhone app. This number came after claiming yesterday that over 100 million iOS users had installed the software. Today, a clarification came to resolve that.

“There are currently 44 million monthly active users of the Facebook for iPhone app. We recently changed the definition of mobile active users to exclude those who have only liked or commented on stream stories. Instead we are counting “active” users as people who have taken explicit actions within an application. This practice is more aligned with how we count overall active users for the site.” [Read more…]

I’ve waited patiently through 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, looking for a fix that will make my phone work again. I’ve read the forums that advise me to jailbreak my phone or use some other method so I can downgrade back to a version of iPhone 3, however I’m not prepared to use a method that is not supported by Apple.

Facebook Places Launches on iPhone

The Facebook iPhone app was updated last night to version 3.2. Along with a few bug fixes, a new service was launched called Facebook Places. Facebook Places aims to tackle the likes of Foursquare and Gowalla as a location check-in service that lets you post where abouts you are.

The service isn’t available just yet in the UK, but should be rolling out soon. For those of you in the US, you already have access to this service with this update. In regards to privacy settings, they are surprisingly not that bad in that Facebook hasn’t opted you in to letting the whole world know exactly where you are. Instead, this information is restricted to just friends. However, Here.org.uk does point out a particular default setting that allows friends to check you in to places which if you worry about this sort of stuff you might want to disable that option. Sony PSP Advert Mocks Apple iPhone

It appears that the latest Sony PSP advert is taking a dig at Apple [AAPL] iPhone users. The advert features a kid who says you can get decent games for the PSP for just $9.99 (older games) that are far better than what’s available on the mobile phones. The ad doesn’t specifically mention Apple although the phone one of the guys holds up clearly looks like an iPhone.

It isn’t clear why Sony are targeting mobile phones for gaming considering that recently it was revealed that Sony Ericsson could be making a PSP Go Android smartphone specifically aimed at gamers. Perhaps those rumours wont happen though. [Read more…]
