Verizon iPhone Could Require Modified Apps – We Don’t Think So

The Verizon iPhone wasn’t expected till February 10 although some devices already started to arrive to customers as early as yesterday. Along with that early arrival, some very interesting information has been found out about apps for the Verizon iPhone. What ZDNet found out was that some apps might require some changes to be compatible with the new iPhone 4 on Verizon. The difference isn’t due to changes with the telco, but instead, it appears that differences with the CDMA chip inside has caused a problem (or has it?).

The first app that needed to be modified was the Telenav Navigator app. The company who create it has not specifically said what hardware caused the change to be made, but ZDNet speculates that it’s the GSM to CDMA switch. When looking in to this more though, it’s nothing at all to do with the hardware of the device. [Read more…]

Verizon Announce iPhone 4 Was Most Successful Launch Ever

Although Verizon ran out of pre-orders within the first day, the smartphone actually set the record on the Verizon network for the fastest selling device in 24 hours. In fact, it sold that quick that it took the record in just 2 hours of the doors opening. Virtual doors opened at 3am Eastern and by 5am the record was set.

Due to the quick depletion of pre-orders, Verizon is not able to open up pre-orders until the 9th February. [Read more…]

Verizon iPhone 4 Pre-Orders Ended

It looks like the iPhone 4 on the Verizon network is in high demand. Verizon and Apple have now stopped taking pre-orders for the smartphone just one day after it was made available for pre-order.

For those wanting to still get the Verizon iPhone 4 on the day of launch, all is not lost as Verizon and Apple are re opening pre-orders on February 9 at 3:01am Eastern, so make sure you stay up late that night. If you don’t want to wait up till the early hours of the morning, the other option is to get in line at an Apple or Verizon store on February 10 at 7am when the device will go on sale in what looks to be limited numbers. White iPhone 4 To Arrive in the UK in March

We are hearing reports today that the White iPhone 4 will finally be landing in the UK next month in March. This will finally see the smartphone being made available several months after it was originally intended to arrive.

Back in June 2010, the iPhone 4 was announced and also Apple announced at the time that they would have a white version available. The white version was then delayed and delayed again and we are still waiting for it to arrive. [Read more…]

Verizon iPhone Hotspot will Cost $20/Month

When the Verizon iPhone 4 was announced a couple of weeks back, it was quickly noted that this version of the smartphone would have a mobile hotspot feature available to users.

What we hear now is that this will actually be a service users need to pay for. The price tag will be $20/month to make use of the wireless hotspot features. [Read more…]

White iPhone 4 Shows up on Three and Orange in UK

When Apple announced the iPhone almost 8 months ago, they said that black and white versions would be launching. Of course, we waited and waited even longer and still wait now for the white iPhone 4 to launch.

Good news for some is that it looks like the white iPhone 4 might be launching soon as it has started to appear on a number of websites in the UK such as Three and Orange as well as a provider in Germany and has appeared in stock listings for AT&T in the US. [Read more…]

iPhone 5 and iPad 2 Could Get NFC

Early last year we saw a patent that indicated that NFC (near field communication) was heading to the iPhone 4. This of course didn’t happen which then led to speculation that the iPhone 5 might be the device which sees NFC implanted inside it.

Bloomberg is reporting today that Apple appears likely to add NFC to the iPhone 5 and the iPad 2 making them into mobile payment systems.

The main goal for Apple would be to get a piece of the $6.2 trillion Americans spend each year on goods and services, Crone said. Today, the company pays credit-card processing fees on every purchase from iTunes. By encouraging consumers to use cheaper methods — such as tapping their bank accounts directly, which is how many purchases are made via PayPal — Apple could cut its own costs and those of retailers selling Apple products.

Universal iPhone 4 Bumper Works with Verizon and AT&T

When Verizon announced the iPhone 4 recently, a couple of subtle changes were spotted. These revolved around the top left side of the phone where the volume buttons and mute switch are. With the slight change to the antenna on the Verizon model, the mute switch was pushed down slightly as were the up and down volume buttons. This raised a few questions about cases and what will happen.

What we see above is a picture of exactly what will happen. The two volume buttons will retain the same location as the AT&T bumper and the mute switch will be cut out a little wider to accommodate the mute switch in the higher AT&T location and lower Verizon location. [Read more…]

Cydia Brings Manage Account Feature to iPhone

Cydia for iOS based devices has received quite a big update. The new version allows you to login with Facebook or a Google account and with that login, access all the downloads you have previously used.

Reasons for using this feature is that each time you jailbreak an updated iPhone, you need to reinstall all your apps. The same applies when you get a new iPhone. By authenticating with Cydia with your FaceBook or Google username and password, you’ll have access to download all the apps you already had, and you’ll not be charged again for the apps. MegaReader iPhone App Lets you Read and Walk

The MegaReader App for iPhone has just received an update that allows users to switch on the rear camera while reading an eBook. What that does is allows users to see what’s going on in front of them allowing them to read and walk at the same time.

The camera feed is designed to make the phone transparent and thus, better for readers whilst on the move. The safety of it can be questioned mind you although the company behind it have made quite an entertaining promo video showing off what you can do with it… along with a huge disclaimer. [Read more…]

Microsoft OneNote Free for iPhone

Microsoft has launched OneNote for the iPhone. The new app was approved and added to the App Store yesterday and for a limited amount of time, it will be free for users to download.

Microsoft hasn’t said how long the app will be free for, so it’s best you grab it while you can. The downside at the moment is that only US iTunes users are able to download the app. Other markets simply cannot download the app unless setting up an iTunes account with a US based address.
