Instapaper Founder Suggests Verizon iPhone Buyers Were Existing iPhone Users

Instapaper is a popular app for iOS based devices. Due to the popularity of it, it always manages to hold a decent rank in the News category. That rank is constantly between number 2 and 5.

With the steady rank and popularity, it manages to give the owner, Marco, a good look in to various spikes that iOS devices get in sales. For example, when the iPad launches in a new country, a spike happens on Instapaper downloads. Likewise, when the NYT had a large feature in December about the iPhone, Instapaper downloads spiked (2.86 times to be exact). [Read more…]

Apple Could Offer a Cheaper iPhone

Large publications have recently received information that hints at a smaller iPhone launching this year, along with a regular sized device. We now hear from the NYT that the smaller phone wont be coming any time soon, but instead, the next generation iPhone will actually be cheaper.

Instead of making a cheaper iPhone that is smaller, it appears that Apple is looking at lowering the cost of the parts, hopefully not the quality, to get the price tag down. [Read more…]

Differences Between CDMA and GSM iPhone Call Settings Detailed

Although there aren’t many differences between the iPhone on Verizon when compared to the AT&T GSM model, there are a few subtle differences in how they work.

The first is quite a major difference in that conference calls are restricted to just 3 people on the Verizon model. This number includes your self. For business users, this could kill the deal as oft times, they need to talk to multiple people. Also, the Verizon iPhone doesn’t allow you to break off to private calls like the AT&T model does. When using the Verizon model you are either conferenced to someone else, or you hang up on someone else. AT&T gives the option to separate calls and hangup on 1 person at a time. [Read more…]

Three iPhone Prototypes Being Researched by Apple

Filed under unlikely, we hear rumors today that Apple is looking at three prototype versions of the iPhone 5. We have already heard about two of them which include the iPhone mini that has a 2.5 inch screen. The next model I believe is the regular iPhone 5 with a 3.5 inch screen, although other rumors hint at this model having a slightly larger 4 inch screen.

Finally, Apple are rumored to be testing an iPhone with a slide out QWERTY keyboard. This is the part of the rumor that I find most unlikely as it would be a major departure from the regular virtual keyboard that has been on every single iPhone since launch. [Read more…]

More Mini iPhone Rumors Added

Last week, rumors of a mini iPhone were revealed. The rumors hinted at a device with a 2.5 inch screen that in total, would be 1/3 smaller than the current iPhone 4.

At the time, we heard that it would be made from some parts of older iPhone models which was being done to keep costs down. The price tag is expected to be $200 off contract, which will be amazing if Apple can get the price that cheap. Anyway, more details have been added to the WSJ article which give a bit more information away. Read on! [Read more…]

Verizon iPhone 4 Launch On Camera

iPhone and iPad launches are known for their huge queues. I’ve experienced it myself once, not again mind you.

What normally happens is that you get there early in the morning, sometimes a week before in the case of some people, and stand around and wait while a queue slowly moves.

Yesterday saw the launch of the Verizon iPhone 4 and Apple was prepared with all the staff as expected. Lots of clapping and lots of organisation in the mall to make sure everybody queues in the right place to prevent risks in case of fire etc… However, this one went a little different than usual: [Read more…]

Mini iPhone Rumors Notch Up a Gear

Reports today indicate that Apple [AAPL], is working on a new form factor for the iPhone which could be described as being the iPhone nano.

The iPhone nano is expected to be 1/3 smaller than the regular sized iPhone and will be made from older parts. Due to the older parts being used, it is rumored to have a price tag of just $200 off contract. That makes it the same price as the regular iPhone 4 16GB on contract.

The old parts referenced are believed to include some from the iPhone 4 and older models. [Read more…]

Verizon iPhone 4 Available at Apple

Apple is now selling the Verizon iPhone 4. When loading up the Apple website, the AT&T and Verizon iPhones are now listed with exactly the same price for each model. The only difference (other than the technical difference of CDMA) is that it takes about 9 days to ship the Verizon model as opposed to the AT&T model which ships within 24 hours. This of course, is due to the phone being launched tomorrow.

Although the official release date is tomorrow, the Verizon iPhone 4 sold out of all pre-orders within 24 hours when it first went on the Apple and Verizon websites. For this reason, it appears that there is a lack of stock now which is contributing to several days delay in shipping. [Read more…]
