Instapaper is a popular app for iOS based devices. Due to the popularity of it, it always manages to hold a decent rank in the News category. That rank is constantly between number 2 and 5.
With the steady rank and popularity, it manages to give the owner, Marco, a good look in to various spikes that iOS devices get in sales. For example, when the iPad launches in a new country, a spike happens on Instapaper downloads. Large publications have recently received information that hints at a smaller iPhone launching this year, along with a regular sized device. We now hear from the NYT that the smaller phone wont be coming any time soon, but instead, the next generation iPhone will actually be cheaper.
The next generation iPhone, iPad and iPod touch could see a boost in battery life, thanks to some work being done by Apple. The company has filed a patent to which they describe a battery with a higher cell density. The patent is entitled “Increasing Energy Density in Rechargeable Lithium Battery Cells” and attempts to slightly alter how the battery works.
Some sales details have leaked about the number of Verizon iPhone and AT&T iPhones sold over a five day period. The numbers show that the Verizon version of the iPhone was outselling the AT&T model on all days around the time of launch. However, these numbers are said to still be below what Apple and Verizon had predicted.
Filed under unlikely, we hear rumors today that Apple is looking at three prototype versions of the iPhone 5. We have already heard about two of them which include the iPhone mini that has a 2.5 inch screen. The next model I believe is the regular iPhone 5 with a 3.5 inch screen, although other rumors hint at this model having a slightly larger 4 inch screen.
Last week, rumors of a
iPhone and iPad launches are known for their huge queues. I’ve experienced it myself once, not again mind you.
Apple has updated iBooks for the iPhone and iPad (as well as iPod touch). The new update is version 1.2.1 which brings several new features to the eBook reader.
Apple is now selling the Verizon iPhone 4. When loading up the Apple website, the AT&T and Verizon iPhones are now listed with exactly the same price for each model. The only difference (other than the technical difference of CDMA) is that it takes about 9 days to ship the Verizon model as opposed to the AT&T model which ships within 24 hours. This of course, is due to the phone being launched tomorrow.
Apple tend to announce the next generation iPhone in June of each year with a release date of that model following a few weeks later.
