Modified Camera and Proximity Sensor Found in White iPhone 4

Now that the white iPhone 4 has arrived, 9 months late, it’s time to take a quick look inside to see what changes have been made. We hear that the device is 0.2mm thicker than the black version and this could be to do with extra UV filtering on the front panel that Apple needed to add. (Phil Schiller doesn’t agree to that though… tweet now deleted).

Differences that have also been found are the camera and the proximity sensor which have both been modified a little. This could be for a number of reasons, but more than likely it’s the fix to what was broken on the original white iPhone 4 when it didn’t launch due to technical problems. Alternatively, it could be just different parts as the new white version has been manufactured a lot later.

Apple to Launch White iPhone 4 April 28

Apple has finally announced that the white iPhone 4 is going on sale. The launch comes 9 months after the original date and we’ll see it, as of tomorrow, being sold in 28 countries around the world.

“The white iPhone 4 has finally arrived and it’s beautiful,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “We appreciate everyone who has waited patiently while we’ve worked to get every detail right.”

iPhone 5 Digitizer Panel Hints at a Larger Edge to Edge Display

The part pictured below is believed to be the digitizer panel for the iPhone 5. If real, we see that it appears to be a similar design to the iPhone 4 although the bezel around the edges of the screen are actually smaller on all 4 edges. This lines up with rumours about the iPhone 5 screen being 4 inches rather than the regular 3.5 inches we have seen in all generations of the smartphone so far.

We don’t know for sure if the digitizer is real and to be honest, we don’t know how large the full part is, but we suspect it is a very similar size to the current iPhone 4 and that the extra half an inch will be gained by slimming down the bezel on the device. By doing this, Apple will be keeping competitive with the current Android devices that often have larger screens.

iPhone 4S Handed out to Select Developers

Apple will be introducing a next gen iPhone later this year. Some say it will be arriving in June, while others are expecting to see it in September. Either way, it will be more powerful and more than likely it will be a refined iPhone 4, perhaps called the iPhone 4S.

We hear today that Apple has been handing out a new prototype iPhone 4 that has been described as the 4S in that it looks identical to the iPhone 4 on the outside, but inside it carries an Apple A5 processor to speed things up.

Trimensional 3D Scanner for iPhone Released

Occasionally we come across very unique apps for the iPhone and iPad. Trimensional is one of those apps which hit the app store just over a week ago. What it does is allows you to use your iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th gen) or iPad 2 as a simple 3D scanner.

The app works by flashing a sequence of four frames on the screen of the iOS device and at the same time, captures images with the front facing camera. By projecting different images from the screen it allows it to create a simple 3D map of a face or any object as pictured below.

iOS 4.3.2 Update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch Arrives

Apple has released an update for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. The new version is 4.3.2 which is a minor update that brings a few bug fixes to the OS.

The fixes include the FaceTime problem where a blank screen or frozen video would occur during a call. Also, a fix specific to the iPad WiFi+3G model has been fixed which prevented some users from connecting to networks (international problem only). Finally, a number of other security updates were baked in to the update which we suspect just seal a few security holes, perhaps to help prevent those who update from jailbreaking with the current methods.

White iPhone 4 Could Arrive within Weeks

The White iPhone 4 has been very elusive over the last 9 to 10 months. It was first announced along with the regular iPhone 4 and since then, it has been delayed over and over to a point where most people believe Apple wont bother with the device and instead launch a white iPhone 5 in the next few months.

Bloomberg is now reporting that “three people with knowledge of the plans” have said the white iPhone will be launching within the next few weeks, before the end of April.

White iPhone 4 Removed from the Apple Database

It’s been about 9 months since Apple announced the White iPhone 4. We have still not seen it launch though and it appears now that Apple might not be launching this device.

The reason we think it might not be launched is that Apple updated the Apple Store yesterday and when it came back up, the only thing changed was the iPhone 4 (in white) being taken off the site. [Read more…]

Verizon iPhone 4 Drops Less Calls than AT&T Version

AT&T and Apple has faced a bit of criticism over the years about the iPhone and it’s dropped call rate. It has never been completely clear as to where the fault is with some blaming one or the other.

Some data was collected in March that reveals the iPhone 4 on Verizon actually drops calls a lot less than the AT&T version. Numbers show that from those surveyed, 4.8% on AT&T had dropped calls, while only 1.8% on Verizon had experienced drop calls. [Read more…]

iPhone 5 Infographic Puts All the Rumors Together

The iPhone 5 could launch in June this year, although there has been a bit of talk of it not showing up till September of this year. Either way, the iPhone 5 (or 4GS) will eventually arrive and with it, a few tweaks here and there.

The infographic embedded below, shows a number of changes that might happen to the next generation iPhone and also gives a percentage of how likely the change will be made.

Some of the obvious changes include an updated camera, perhaps 8 megapixels on the back. We also hear that the Home Button might be dropped in favor of the multi-touch gestures used on iOS 4.3 (for developers). This is a little less likely due to 4/5 finger gestures being next to impossible on the small screen. We hear a slightly larger screen will be used, perhaps 4 inches. Again, Apple has always used the smaller 3.5 inch screen with the only main difference being the higher pixel density Retina Display on the iPhone 4. [Read more…]

iPhone Dev Team Releases iOS 4.3.1 Jailbreak

The iPhone Dev Team has released an iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak today. This new jailbreak works on all devices other than the new iPad 2. This means it’s compatible with the iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, iPod touch (last 2 gens) and basically anything that runs iOS 4.3.1.

The jailbreak is untethered which is thanks to Stefan Esser who provided the necessary information to the Dev Team to complete the jailbreak. The reason the iPad 2 isn’t compatible is that it isn’t susceptible to the SHAtter or bootrom exploits that are currently available. [Read more…]
