Apple Files the Activity Sensor Patent

A few months ago, Apple filed a new patent which was referred to as an Activity Sensor. It’s kind of like an extreme sports version of the Nike+ iPod sport kit that you can currently buy. The Activity Sensor is used to measure factors while skiing, snow boarding or mountain biking which include air time, speed and power/energy absorbed while performing these activities.
The 41 page patent gives full details and explains that when someone claims that they achieved “big air” that right now they can only claim it. The Activity Sensor will actually be able to quantify what they exactly achieved so they can use the personal data to set their own records to try and beat. Verizon to get Samsung Alias 2

Verizon have announced that they have launched the Samsung Alias 2. The Alias 2 is a dual hinged clamshell phone which has a unique keyboard that is actually E-Ink. The keyboard is QWERTY and with each key using E-Ink it can quickly transform in to a different layout. The overall effect is actually quite good and because e-ink doesn’t require much power to work (ie, only when changing the state) it doesn’t provide any major impact to the phones battery life. Garmin Nuvifone G60 Delayed

Garmin have delayed the launch of the Nuvifone G60 again. The last launch details mentioned it would be announced and quite probably be made available in the first half of 2009. Now it seems that it will be launched quarter 3 of this year. The reason behind the delay is due to the production capability of both Asus and Garmin who are working together to launch this navigation phone. [Read more…]

Touchscreens have advanced a lot over the last few years. As technology has advanced they seem to be more easier to use and a lot more responsive. Mix this with faster processors and faster operating systems you then get an even smoother scrolling and functioning system. However, they are still not quite where they need to be. For example, sending a text message on a mobile phone with only a touchscreen can be quite a pain. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have now developed a screen that can slightly change shape to form buttons across the screen when needed. [Read more…]
