icarte-sgiCarte is a new accessory built for the iPhone that allows it to use near field communications or RFID. The application that you install on your iPhone allows you to configure your iPhone as an e-wallet to make contactless payments. As well as being able to send information to another device, the iCarte is also capable of reading information.

By connecting the iPhone up to an office network, either over 3G or Wi-Fi, you are able to scan other RFID items and do instant tracking on a company database for perhaps security access control, document tracking and asset tracking to name a few things. [Read more…]

Maybe 100,000 Motorola DROID’s Already Sold

motorola-droidLast Friday saw the release of the Motorola DROID which is the first smartphone to run the Android 2.0 OS. Reports are showing that perhaps 100,000 phones were sold in the first weekend of it’s launch. Verizon at the weekend had 200,000 DROID handsets made available and most of the stores sold at least half the stock indicating that perhaps 100,000 were sold in total.

The information came from Mark McKechnie of Broadpoint AmTech Inc who has also indicated that Motorola expect to sell 1 million phones based on Android software this year and 10 million in 2010. [Read more…]

Adobe Photoshop for Android Announced

android-photoshopJust a few weeks ago we mentioned that Adobe had launched Photoshop for iPhone that allowed easy editing of photos on the iPhone. Adobe have now announced that Photoshop for Android is now available that allows you to also edit photos on your Android phone.

Adobe describe the Android version of photoshop as allowing you to drag your finger to crop, adjust colour, apply effects and perform a number of adjustments of your photo. [Read more…]

Google Voice Search now understands Mandarin Chinese on Nokia S60 Phones

google-voice-searchGoogle have announced that their voice search software now understands Mandarin Chinese on Nokia S60 phones allowing Google to move in and grow their search business in that area of the world.

The software is currently capable of understanding various English accents and also a few Mandarin accents although not all just yet. As well as working on the Nokia S60 range of phones, Mandarin voice search will also come soon to Android based phones as well as the iPhone in China. [Read more…]

Symbian Horizon App Store Now Online

Symbian-HorizonSymbian have launched the Horizon App store that aims to compete against app stores already open by Android, BlackBerry, iPhone and Windows Mobile. The Horizon App store went live today along with the first 50 applications. Symbian also have plans to allow 1000’s more applications through the system next year.

The Symbian operating system is used on a lot of phones including many Nokia phones, Samsung, Sony Ericsson etc… and a lot of these companies already have started app stores. Nokia for example, has the Nokia Ovi store. Each of these app stores will support the new Horizon store and integrate offerings in to their stores. [Read more…]

Palm Pixi Coming November 15 – $100

Palm-PixiPalm and Sprint have announced that the new Palm Pixi will be made available for purchase on November 15. The phone will cost $99.99 after the usual rebates that require you to mail them in. You will also need to sign a 2 year contract to get the phone.

The phone will be made available in various places including Sprint Stores, Online, Best Buy, Radio Shack as well as Wal-Mart stores in some locations.

A quick overview of technical specs only shows what we already know in that it has a multi-touch screen, a full QWERTY keyboard and is thin in form factor. The Pixi is Palm’s second WebOS device to hit the market after the Palm Pre that was released earlier this year. [Read more…]

Apple Slate Coming Soon – More Rumours

apple-tabletMore rumours are going around about the Apple Slate and an “imminent launch”. Information from Bill Keller also says that the New York Times are working on bringing content to the new slate.

About a week ago a speech was given by Bill Keller off record, but this speech was put online. About 8.5 minutes in to the video presentation the Apple Slate is mentioned as one of the platforms that the times are working on bringing content to.

“I’m hoping we can get the newsroom more actively involved in the challenge of delivering our best journalism in the form of Times Reader, iPhone apps, WAP, or the impending Apple slate…”

Apple Magic Mouse Launched

apple-magic-mouse-4Along with a big update to a number of Apple products yesterday, Apple [AAPL] have also launched the new Magic Mouse. The mouse is the worlds first multi touch mouse allowing you to use anywhere on it’s surface to click on.

To use the mouse you need to brush a finger along the surface of it to scroll in any direction along with the ability to pan a full 360 degrees. Various other gestures can be used with the mouse including the use of two fingers, swipe left or right that allows you to skim through pages.

The multi-touch abilities stem from what started on the iPhone where a new way to interact with a screen was first used. Following the iPhone the iPod Touch also got this and then the technology moved in to touchpads on devices sich as the MacBook pro. [Read more…]

Barnes & Noble Nook Made Official

features_musicEarlier we wrote about the Barnes & Noble Nook eBook reader that suddenly was being made available today. Scanning over their website we see that the information has now been made official and that a colour eBook reader is now available for pre-order. Although the eBook reader does have some element of colour, it is important to know that the reading pane is just regular e-ink, but the device does have a seperate LCD colour navigation area below the screen that acts like a touch-pad.

The Nook measures 7.7″ x 4.9″ x 0.5″ and weighs 11.2 ounces. The main screen/reading pane uses advanced E Ink Vizplex that allows you to read eBooks like a printed page. This allows you to read in sunlight as well as clearly while used in your home. The text size can also be adjusted to suit your needs. [Read more…]

Motorola Droid gets Hands on at BGR

motorola-droid_1Over the weekend we posted some shots that we found regarding the Android 2.0 operating system that BGR managed to get their hands on. Just a day before that BGR also made a quick video showing HELLOMOTODROID which looks to be exactly the same phone.

Now BGR have shown us some full pictures of the phone including a number of angles showing us exactly what it will look like. The phone as mentioned, will run Android 2.0 (which from what I have read looks amazing) and will be slightly thicker than the iPhone 3G S. It is described as the thinnest QWERTY slider phone ever mad. It runs a fast processor and has a nice sized capacitive touch-screen for input. [Read more…]

The iPod Dock is numbered the Mi9490PBLK and in the box you get the sound system it’s self, a power lead/transformer, remote control and an aerial for use with the radio tuner (along with manuals etc…). Also you get the standard iPod dock connector on the top of the device along with a spare docking plate just in case you are using one of the older iPods.
