Apple Pico Projector Patent

Apple [AAPL] have filed a patent for a pico projector system and from what patentlyapple have found out, they are taking the research to the next level and looking at ways to integrate them in to the next level of hardware.

The way Apple describe the system it seems that they may either make a dedicated pico projector device that connects up to a device such as an iPhone that will be used to remote control the projector.

Integrating a projector in to an Apple iPhone or Apple iPad could be handy allowing for presentations to be done to sound ideas off with a few colleagues before a larger presentation is done. [Read more…]

Google Nexus One – A Sales Failure?

It appears that the Google Nexus One might actually be a sales failure looking at the chart above (larger version below). It is estimated that just 135,000 devices have been shipped in the first 74 days. Compare that to the likes of the Motorola DROID and the iPhone which hit around the 1 million mark things look quite bad for the Nexus One.

The amount of days (74) was decided on because of Apple [AAPL] first announcing that in those opening days of the iPhone going on sale they shifted 1 million units in that time. The other two figures are actually calculated on using stats from a company called Flurry who track app’s installed on devices (UDID’s). [Read more…]

Portable Computers as Powerful as PS3 to arrive in 3 Years

Imagination Technologies are responsible for creating the PowerVR chip that runs in phones such as the iPhone, DROID as well as others. They believe that in three years time they will have a chip that will bring the power of Playstation 3 graphics to pocket sized devices.

The reason they actually believe (or know it) is due to the fact that the chip is already being designed and due to waiting for licensing, and bringing the chip in to publicly available phones (which takes 3 years) they know that 720p HD will be available with an output to TV that has PS3 capable graphics. Perhaps mini screens will also be cable of 720p at that time too. [Read more…]

Samsung Super AMOLED Screen Explained

A video has been uploaded to Youtube that gives a visual representation of how Samsungs Super AMOLED screen works and why it gets clear and more vibrant image quality.

The reason why Samsung can call their AMOLED screen Super is that they have done away with the touch layer and embedded it in the screen. The touch sensors are integrated in to the display rather than being over the top of the screen which normally acts as a filter. [Read more…]

ASUS Eee Pad – iPad Killer?

When Apple created the iPhone it seemed to be the benchmark for what other phones should at least be like. Each time a new smartphone was launched people asked if it would be an “iPhone Killer”.

Of course with the launch of the Apple iPad in a few weeks it seems companies are now wanting to create “iPad Killers”. ASUS are said to be pretty confident with their ASUS Eee Pad creation and believe that the iPad from Apple [AAPL] offers nothing that the Eee Pad cannot achieve. Eric Chen, the VP of ASUS Systems Business Group has said that the iPad is nothing but a big iPhone and due to that, the iPad won’t be able to command the same market share that the iPhone has achieved. Apple iPad to get WSJ – Murdoch Confirms

Confirmation of the WSJ heading to the Apple iPad has been given by Rupert Murdoch. An Apple iPhone application is already available and with the scaling that the iPad can do, that particular application should be able to run full screen. However, an iPad version is also being worked on so that the company can utilise the full resolution of the large screen. The app is currently under development.

The developers have managed to get hold of an Apple [AAPL] iPad although funnily enough it is locked down at night by lock and key, and to make things even crazier, the key is turned by an employee of Apple to make sure nobody sneaks the device home with them. [Read more…]

Apple iPad has Ability to make Emergency Calls – Maybe

Since the SDK launched allowing developers to see what’s available in the Apple iPad a number of functions have been found. The latest finding indicates that emergency calls can be made from the device… how? we are not sure just yet.

The emergency call function was spotted when trying the passcode lock and entering the password incorrectly 5 times. On the fifth attempt it gives the option to make an emergency call.

The first thoughts I had which are in-line with many others is that it’s a simple mistake/bug that the Apple [AAPL] developers have left when modifying the iPhone OS. [Read more…]
