Find my iPad App Launching on MobileMe

MobileMe is an application available for Apple [AAPL] that allows various functions to be performed such as syncing email, calendars and other information across devices to make sure all stays in sync. One of the features is called Find My iPhone which allows you to track the location of your iPhone when lost. The software remotely activates the GPS and transmits details to you so you can track it down. If you think you have no hope of finding your phone you can also perform a remote wipe ensuring that your data is not found by others.

Find My iPad is now launching on the MobileMe service which allows you to do exactly the same as a lost iPhone… track it down or remote wipe it.

Things to note with the iPad version is that the wireless version doesn’t have a GPS built in, and to find out where your iPad is, it will need to be connected successfully to a wireless network. Due to working out locations based on wireless networking, it will be nowhere near the accuracy of a GPS enabled device, so really the Wi-Fi+3G Apple iPad is really what you want here thanks to it’s built in GPS and 3G connectivity. In preparation for Saturday’s Apple iPad launch, Apple [AAPL] have now opened up iTunes to show applications for the iPad (link will open up iTunes).

Once loaded up you’ll see a list of all the apps available for the Apple iPad that can be purchased now. When clicking on an application you then see the option of viewing screen shots for the iPhone version or iPad version as pictured below.

A lot of the applications we have already heard about due to leaks over the past week or so, but now it’s official you can go ahead and start purchasing them. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Queue Already Started

In NYC a queue for the Apple iPad has started… even though it’s more than a day away. The first person in-line is a guy called Greg Packer who incidentally was the same guy who sat 1st in line for the iPhone a few years ago.

The line has started and we hear there aren’t too many iPad’s going on sale, so if you want one you’ll need to get there and queue up behind him asap, or find another store to go to. Hopefully you did the sensible thing and just pre-ordered one online about 3 weeks ago and if so, it will be delivered right to your door this Saturday assuming you get Saturday UPS deliveries in your area. Apple Sued for Multi-Touch Patent Infringements

We are hearing this morning that Apple [AAPL] themselves are being sued for infringing on a multi-touch patent of a company called Elan Microelectronics Corp. That company are now taking the case to the U.S. trade agency in an attempt to ban the import and sales of the Apple iPad, iPod Touch and the iPhone.

Elan’s complaint filed with the U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington claims Apple ‘knowingly and deliberately used Elan’s technology, while continuing to introduce infringing products, the company claims in the complaint.

‘Our goal is to protect our technology and to stop sales of those products in the U.S., Dennis Liu, spokesman for Hsinchu, Taiwan-based Elan.

Apple iPad Review Roundup

Various web sites have managed to review the Apple iPad yesterday to give it the full run down and to also see if it lives up to the hype of it being magical and revolutionary. Initial reports seem to indicate that Apple have nailed it much like they did when the Apple [AAPL] iPhone first launched in 2007.

The Apple iPad review from Walt Mossberg (AllThingsD) indicates that for many the Apple iPad will work very well. If you want to browse the web, use social networking, send email and use day to day tasks it’s ideal for you. Walt did however point out that it had a number of restrictions such as there being no webcam for video calls which some might have liked to use the device for. In regards to the 10 hour battery life claimed by Apple (which some expected to be lower), Walt actually managed to get over 11 hours of usage out of it when testing from 6am till after 5pm playing videos back to back and surfing, emailing etc… That’s quite impressive considering most companies over estimate when it comes to battery life. Google Chrome and Chrome OS to Integrate Adobe Flash

Google [GOOG] have announced that they will soon be integrating Adobe Flash in to the Chrome web browser and eventually in to Google Chrome OS when it lands.

By integrating Adobe Flash in to Chrome and Chrome OS, they actually mean integrate and not just support. Out of the box you’ll be able to play flash content without installing a specific plugin from Adobe.

Adobe could hit troubling times with it’s flash software in the next few years for a number of reasons. One reason is that Apple [AAPL] do not support flash on their Apple iPhone or Apple iPad. In reference to the latter (the iPad), big media publications are already transitioning data over to HTML5 to allow their flash content to play natively on the Apple iPad. This could lead eventually to flash becoming old and not required any more. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit Ready for Pre-Order

Apple [AAPL] in the US now have the iPad Camera Connection Kit available for pre-order on their website with a price tag of $29. In that price you get a couple of iPad camera connection devices.

The first connector (30 pin of course) features a USB port allowing you to connect up either your digital camera or iPhone direct to the iPad. When connected an application automatically loads up displaying thumbs of images that are available on the camera or iPhone to download. You can then select what you want to copy over. Images are then synced with your PC or Mac is required.

The next connector is almost the same but instead of connecting the camera direct to the iPad it features an SD card slot allowing images to be read directly from the memory card containing pictures. The same app (Photos) is opened up and the same interface. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Flash Problems partially solved by Brightcove

The Apple iPad lacks flash as you are probably already aware of. That does upset a number of people who want to use a larger screen tablet device to browse the web and yet, they see boxes asking for Flash to be installed.

A number of companies are switching video content over to use the new HTML5 specification that allows videos to play back in the browser (including the iPhone and iPad browser).

Brightcove are getting in on this by creating software that websites can use to play Brightcove videos which use the HTML5 spec and can work on devices such as the Apple iPad and iPhone.

The software uses auto-detection and can switch over the video to be compatible if it recognises the device cannot use flash. [Read more…]

Spotify US Launch Date Roughly Revealed

Spotify have provided a rough launch date saying that they expect the service to go live in the 3rd quarter of this year.

The information came from an interview with Paul Brown (senior VP) who also commented that the company are buying server space across various datacentres in the US. Also they are working on licensing too with various labels and publishers. Due to the sheer amount of them in the US it’s taking a while to get through the list.

An update to the Apple iPhone Spotify App has also been revealed that will see a number of features added including Last.fm and the ability to open Spotify links from the web browser and Facebook application. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Store Screenshots Spotted

Yesterday we came across a number of Apple iPad apps that were showing up on the web based iTunes app store. Those items were quickly removed and no longer are listed there. However, someone managed to stumble across the Apple iPad feed for the app store and created this list of what the store will probably look like.

As with the leak yesterday (linked above) the leak also found yesterday (what we are posting here) shows various HD versions of software that are going to the iPad such as Labyrinth 2 and Flight Control.

Screenshots shown below show the app store and what it will look like along with pricing which incidentally shows apps being higher price which is understandable. Also it appears that those apps that have been specifically designed to work on the larger screen will also require that you repurchase the iPad version from what we understand. This might upset a few folk, but when Apple first presented the iPad it was mentioned that iPhone apps would work where they would be zoomed to fill the screen… those apps that have already been purchased won’t need to be repurchased from what we hear. The Real cost of the Apple iPad

Voucher Codes in the UK decided to put together quite a cool infographic (if that’s the right word for it), that shows the real price of an Apple iPad and confirms if the $499 price tag is as “unbelievable” as they repeatedly have said.

First impressions of the iPad pricing is that we all expected it to cost $1000 or so, so when the lowest spec model came in at $499 it seemed like a good deal.

The infographic is based on old Apple products that have launched over the last 24 years and includes the likes of the Apple Lisa, Apple I, II and III right up to the iPhone, iMac and the Apple iPad. [Read more…]

Apple iPad approved App list Leaked

Padgadget have been hunting around the iTunes database recently where they uncovered some interesting details of applications that were available for download that looked to be tuned specifically for the Apple iPad. The hunt revealed that several apps were marked with HD at the end of their titles and when trying to download a message said that they were unavailable at the moment in a specific country.

The information didn’t come from the regular iTunes store or from the App Store on the Apple [AAPL] iPhone. Instead, padgadget were using the web based interface where the titles were mixed in with thousands of regular iPhone and iPod Touch titles.

Although only a handfull or two apps were found at the time (due to there being thousands upon thousands of apps which takes too long to hunt through), the titles which were found are listed below… [Read more…]
