Rumours have started today about the possibility that Apple might be shrinking down the dock connector in the next generation of iOS devices. The reason behind it is that it would simply save space inside the device and allow for a larger battery or more powerful networking chips to be installed for LTE connectivity.

iPhone Case with Flip-Out Keyboard – The TK-421
The TK-421 is a case built for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS that has a built in QWERTY keyboard. The iPhone sits inside the back of the case and the keyboard can open up by rotating the iPhone off the keyboard… see the animation to see how it works.
The reason for this keyboards existence is due to some people just not liking a virtual keyboard that has no tactile feedback. By having a physical keyboard attached to the iPhone you can take advantage of iOS without having to use the touchscreen keyboard. [Read more…]
iPhone 4 Antenna Kit
Check out the iPhone 4 antenna kit that is designed to fix the problems with the iPhone 4 signal. The antenna kit attaches to the dock connector on your iPhone 4 and includes a lengthy cable with a long antenna attached.
By taking the antenna away from the phone allows for no drops at all in signal strength always ensuring you get to make calls when you want. [Read more…]
iPhone 4 Catches on Fire
One user unluckily had their iPhone 4 set on fire when trying to connect the docking cable. The image here shows the damage what was done to the cable and the iPhone 4.
It appears that the issue was caused due to a problem with the USB port rather than a user error which is a little worrying. Hopefully this is just a one off incident as the user who’s iPhone 4 went up in flames around the port also had his hand burned.
When the user took the phone back to AT&T [T] to replace, it was out of stock so it is believed the customer will have to wait a little while to get a new handset replacement. [Read more…]
iPhone 4 Vapor4 Case Looks Amazing
The iPhone 4 bumper case is simply a bit or plastic or rubber that stretches around the outer edges of the phone and protects the glass from touching surfaces as well as protecting the edges of the phone.
The Vapor4 is exactly the same in that it covers the edges of the iPhone 4 and protects it… but the difference here is that the Vapor4 actually looks amazingly nice.
As well as looking good, it will also fix the antenna issues with the iPhone 4 when in bad signal areas. It achieves this by lining the insides of the aluminium casing with a material that prevents the antenna from touching the casing, thus your hand cant break the signal. In tests the company found no interference. [Read more…]
iPhone 4 Repair Manual Uploaded
The Apple [AAPL] launch of the iPhone 4 appeared to be a huge success last week in terms of how many units were shifted. Over 600,000 pre-orders were taken on day one with Apple stores having large queues of people wanting to collect the new smartphone.
There have been reports of people dropping and smashing the glass on their new phones though, so iFixit has decided to upload a handy repair manual for the iPhone 4 to help users fix their own phone rather than sending it off to Apple (if warranty doesn’t cover the breakages).
iFixit uploaded 10 step-by-step guides which cover the following repairs… [Read more…]
iPhone 4 Hands-On
Yesterday we managed to get hold of an iPhone 4 to test and see what it’s like compared to other phones such as Android devices as well as a comparison versus the older iPhone 3GS.
Apple [AAPL] has finally changed the design of the iPhone with the new iPhone 4. Previously the iPhone original, 3G and 3GS only had slight cosmetic changes. The iPhone 4 has a complete redesign and I happen to quite like it.
It’s completely flat on the back unlike previous models. The back is covered in hardened glass and has a transparent bit of glass where the 5 megapixel lens and the flash can be found (note the improved camera and the addition of a flash… more on this later in the iPhone 4 review that we will be posting soon). iPhone 4 Teardown
Before the official launch date, iFixit managed to legally get hold of an iPhone 4 to teardown so they could reveal what’s inside the production model.
The iFixit team had someone fly out to Japan to pick up an iPhone 4 first, but as UPS has been delivering iPhone 4’s early to some customers, they managed to borrow one from someone in Silicon Valley.
The teardown reveals that there is 512MB of RAM in this iPhone 4. Previous leaked models were believed to have 256MB, so the double amount seems to be a last minute decision. [Read more…]
Apple iPhone 4G Parts Surface Again
After several leaks regarding the next generation iPhone 4G, we again see another leak has surfaced. This time it’s for a spare part which we haven’t seen before. The spare part is a sub-frame assembly that is basically the centre part of the iPhone 4G that holds the thing together.
The site, iPhone Portugal, managed to purchase the sub-frame from China and have the part(s) delivered to them. Confirmation of them being genuine will be hard to achieve. ZDNet point out that no Apple [AAPL] logo can be found on the subframe and that it potentially could be just a knock off although the quality does look to be of a premium product standard.
