WePad introduced from Neofonie

The WePad (perhaps a play on the iPad but in a plural form) is built by a German company called Neofonie. The WePad has an 11.6 inch display that has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Inside the device is fairly standard hardware that includes an Intel Atom N450 processor that runs at 1.66GHz along with onboard GMA 3150 graphics. (ie, it’s a netbook without the keyboard).

The battery is good to power the device for about 6 hours (compared to 10 that the iPad gives). Windows Phone 7 Series Tablet Concept

Apple decided that the Apple iPad will use the iPhone OS running at a slightly higher resolution and from what we have seen, the iPad works very well in this configuration. We have also seen tablets before that run Android based operating systems. This particular concept tablet takes that idea but uses Windows Phone 7 Series as an operating system unlike the HP Slate that will run Windows 7.

The concept designer Umang Dokey has designed an 8 inch tablet that has a couple of webcams, a built in keyboard that acts as a kick stand as well as joystick controls and shoulder buttons allowing the device to be used as a computer, for games and the joystick used also for scrolling through documents.

It’s actually quite a neat idea and perhaps something that Microsoft should consider in the near future when the new operating system lands. [Read more…]

Apple Pico Projector Patent

Apple [AAPL] have filed a patent for a pico projector system and from what patentlyapple have found out, they are taking the research to the next level and looking at ways to integrate them in to the next level of hardware.

The way Apple describe the system it seems that they may either make a dedicated pico projector device that connects up to a device such as an iPhone that will be used to remote control the projector.

Integrating a projector in to an Apple iPhone or Apple iPad could be handy allowing for presentations to be done to sound ideas off with a few colleagues before a larger presentation is done. [Read more…]

JooJoo Tablet hits the FTC

The FCC has taken a look at the JooJoo tablet and as well as giving it a thorough check over to make sure it complies with certain standards, they also have a picture of the inside as well as the details of what powers the device.

Just yesterday we heard about the JooJoo tablet getting a user interface makeover making it look a little bit more attractive to use. This new user interface mixed with the revealed hardware specs make it appear to be quite an impressive machine.

The JooJoo runs an NVIDIA Ion along with an Intel Atom N270 CPU. We also hear there is integrated 3G built in which was contrary to reports heard before. The worrying thing is that the JooJoo appears to run standard hardware and if not optimised just right, we could see that NVIDIA Ion chip suck a lot of power out of the battery making it a lot lower than it’s main competitor the Apple iPad (which just became available for pre-order in the last hour). Apple iPhone 4.0 to Get Multitasking Support

We are hearing today that Apple [AAPL] are working on their latest iPhone OS numbered 4.0. The new OS still has a way to go before being launched, but it seems like multitasking is going to be included for 3rd party apps. Currently there are a few apps built by Apple that can multi task such as email and iPod to name a couple.

The current OS 3.x does multitask, but 3rd party apps are prevented artificially for various reasons such as security. If they open it up there could be problems with applications accessing other applications etc…

Other problems caused with multitasking are to do with memory assignment and battery life. When applications are loaded up there has to be some communication between apps on what memory allocations can be used. Also battery life suffers having to handle the extra CPU load. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone gets RedEye mini – Turns iPhone in to Universal Remote Control

ThinkFlood have created a new product called the ThinkFlood RedEye mini that converts your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad (when available) in to a universal remote control and TV guide.

The RedEye mini costs $49 and connects up to the 3.5mm headphone jack of your iPod allowing you to control a variety of systems such as a TV, DVR, Stereo, Digi-Box etc… and lets you control them all from the single remote control software created as an application.

To get the system working it requires that you either enter a unique code for the device you own, or put the iPhone RedEye mini in to training mode which can detect signals from other remote controls. Once achieved you attach the IR transmitter, load up the app and use a variety of methods to control your TV and other devices. Gestures can be used such as sliding a couple of fingers down the screen to lower the volume or flicking the iPhone to jump up a channel. [Read more…]

Flash 10.1 Not a Battery Hog

Recently Apple were heard to say that Adobe Flash on a mobile device would kill battery life and give up to an 85% decrease in how long the battery would last. The Apple iPad was specifically mentioned as dropping from 10 hours to just 1.5 hours if Apple allowed Flash on their device.

To try prove these numbers wrong an Adobe evangelist called Mark Doherty has created some evidence along with a video of Flash 10.1 running on a mobile device and the exact effect it has on the battery of a mobile device. By playing a 17 minute embedded video that ran flash, the consumption of flash was just 6% (mixed in with the browser processor usage). The numbers also indicate that H.264 playback over a WiFi connection could allow for about three hours on a single charge. [Read more…]

Wired Reader for Tablets Demonstrated

Wired have demonstrated what their tablet based reader will run like. The Wired Reader app aims to immerse the user in real magazine content that hasn’t been altered by HTML. The content is designed on the Adobe InDesign software and allows users to seamlessly scroll around a magazine on a dual-navigation system that lets you scroll both horizontally and vertically.

As well as showing content as Wired want it to be displayed, 3D interactivity, video and audio are also thrown in to the mix. If Wired are reviewing a product, you can slide your finger across the product to rotate it in 3D to get a view from all sides.
