Apple iPhone 4G Leaked Pics

We came across some pictures this morning of a device that is claimed to be the iPhone 4G or iPhone HD as some are referring to it as. The image show the back cover of the device and it appears to be heavily inspired by the Apple iPad with squared edges rather than the smooth curves of the current iPhone.

Of course these could be fan made and probably are, but they still look good enough to publish here if not just to see what we might be in for when the official announcement is supposedly being made on June 22.

On the back of the casing, 64GB is etched on indicating that Apple [AAPL] are increasing the storage capacity of the iPhone, which to be honest, wouldn’t come as a surprise. Also it says Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China. [Read more…]

iPhone OS 4.0 Jailbreak Available for iPhone 3G

MuscleNerd has just launched RedSn0w 0.9.5 Beta that allows iPhone OS 4.0 to be jailbroke.

This is a beta release of redsn0w targeted at developers of jailbroken apps. It uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that we’ve been using since the 2.x days. Nothing new is revealed to Apple, and it’s not applicable to the iPad. Don’t go near it if you use yellowsn0w, ultrasn0w, or blacksn0w.

As warned above, this isn’t for regular users. First off, you need to be a developer to get iPhone OS 4.0 on your iPhone (the beta version as the public hasn’t been release yet), and also there isn’t much that can be done just yet as developers haven’t really created any apps for 4.0 that would work on it just yet. iPhone HD Could be Unveiled June 22

Rumours are going around about Apple [AAPL] unveiling their next gen iPhone 4G, or iPhone HD or whatever it’s going to be called. The date rumoured is June 22

“For this particular occasion, Apple has once again reserved the very conference center where the company announced the three previous versions of the iPhone,” Messany reports. “So all signs, indeed, point to June 22nd proving the 4th gen iPhone’s ‘big day.’ Knowing Apple, however, we probably won’t know for sure until the evening of June 21st.”

Obviously this doesn’t provide concrete evidence, but it’s certainly the “right” time of year for Apple to make such an announcement (if they are indeed launching a new iPhone this year) and if they have followed the same pattern for the last 3 years then it makes sense they would hold it at the same location. Adobe Prepping Lawsuit against Apple – Rumour

We are hearing rumours today that Adobe are preparing to file a lawsuit against Apple [AAPL]. The rumours say that this is related to the changes in the iPhone OS 4.0 SDK which essentially blocked Adobe from working on the iPhone with their 3rd party software.

It seems that Apple blocking 3rd party coding has been the last straw to bring Adobe to this.

It of course isn’t clear if Adobe will get anything out of this as essentially it’s hardware that Apple create and it would appear that they can do what they like in terms of what they think is best for users. The legal system will have to sort it all out though. Also the fact that right now this is just speculation, so it’s hard to really comment any further. [Read more…]

WePad Tablet Pricing and Launch Details

We first mentioned the WePad a few weeks ago and from what we saw, we were quite impressed at the alleged specifications. The whole WePad device seems to revolve around doing things that the iPad cannot do. Features such as a camera have been included allowing for video calls to be made. An SD card slot has been included along with USB and the ability to multitask.

The WePad Tablet runs the Android operating system from Google [GOOG] and has access to the Android Marketplace to download applications.

Overall it looks quite impressive and we hope that the CPU and graphics chip are up to scratch making it run smoothly. Update: It has an Intel Atom N450 CPU and no NVIDIA although it does support full HD, so perhaps another quicker than Intel chip.

From what we hear there are a couple of versions with one being WiFi only costing ‚¬449. This will have 16GB of RAM. [Read more…]

Google Tablet in the Works

Google [GOOG] are getting in to the tablet game by creating a Google Tablet. This particular tablet computer they will be making will run the Google Android OS rather than Chrome OS and from what we hear, it will be created by Google (or perhaps as the Nexus One is… created by HTC but sold exclusively by Google).

We have heard of Google Chrome OS based tablets previously, but from what we understand now, Google is actually planning on running Android on this particular tablet. It isn’t clear if they will just run plain old Android 2.1 for example, on the tablet where everything is just spaced out more on the screen, or if a specific Android Tablet Edition OS will be made. iPhone OS 4 – Apple Scrubs “Google” from Safari Search Button

When loading up the Safari browser on your iPhone you’ll see an address bar at the top left raking about 2/3 of the screen width along with a smaller search box just next to it with the word Google inserted. When taping the search box the keyboard pops open and the word Google can be found on the bottom right of the keyboard… this is changing.

Apple [AAPL] in their latest iPhone OS 4.0 have actually scrubbed out Google [GOOG] from the box and keyboard in what looks to be a move to distance themselves from the company. The iPad running it’s current OS also has Google replaced on the keyboard with a generic “Search” added to the device. With in the iPad, users have the option to default search to either Google or Yahoo!, so it seems like Apple are not wanting to tie themselves down to just one search function. On the iPad when selecting a default, the small box at the top does show the default search setting, but the keyboard just has that generic search added. [Read more…]

Apple to Remove Rate on Delete on iPhone OS

When deleting applications on the Apple iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, you are presented with a message whereby you can give the deleted application a rating. When prompted by the message you have two options… either to rate or not rate the application.

This rating feature on app deletion was added on iPhone OS 2.2 but a problem has now been spotted with how this actually works. The rating system it’s self works in a technical way as in, you give it how many stars you want out of and the rating is recorded and averaged out to give a result… but the problem is that people more often than not, delete applications when they are unhappy with it… meaning the ratings of apps can be skewed towards the lower amount of stars as those who are happy with the app wont delete it and wont be prompted to rate it. iPhone OS 4.0 Release Date

Update: Apple has just announced that iPhone OS 4.0 (which has been renamed to iOS 4) will be launched on June 21. Click here for details.

Earlier today Apple [AAPL] announced iPhone OS 4. In the presentation they said the iPhone OS 4.0 release date was to be summer while the Apple iPad will get it in the fall, a few months later.

Reasons for the iPad delay are still unknown although we suspect they are tweaking iPhone OS 4.0 for the iPad to work things a little differently such as how the multitasking tray works.

With Apple only specifying summer as the iPhone OS 4.0 release date, that obviously puts it somewhere in June, July or August. We currently believe that the next gen iPhone (aka iPhone 4G or iPhone HD) is going to be announced early in summer, so we suspect that the iPhone OS 4.0 will be released along with the next gen iPhone. iPhone OS 4 Multitasking in Action

We just mentioned iPhone OS 4 and it’s new features that Apple [AAPL] announced today.

We just came across a video showing exactly how multitasking works on the iPhone. The video is below and shows the double tap on the home button where the running apps then slide up from the bottom of the screen. The option of sliding left and right is then given allowing you to choose which application you want to load.

Although it’s not the most ground breaking feature to hit a mobile phone, praise seems to need to go to Apple due to how they say it functions in that it doesn’t cause issues with the CPU or with memory limits from what we understand. Steve Jobs best described multitasking as follows… “It’s like we said on the iPad, if you see a stylus, they blew it. In multitasking, if you see a task manager… they blew it. Users shouldn’t ever have to think about it.” [Read more…]

Apple iPhone OS 4 – Multitasking Official

Today, Apple [AAPL] announced iPhone OS 4 and along with that, the ability it brings to the iPhone 3GS to multitask. Note that we say iPhone 3GS as the older iPhone 3G and below will not support multitasking. Also OS 4 will work on the 3rd gen iPod Touch (ie, late 2009 models).

Another interesting step for Apple here is that they are delaying iPhone OS 4 for iPad owners till fall rather than when the rest of the Apple products will get it in the summer. We are not sure the reasons for this but if we find out, we’ll provide an update.

Before we mention all the new features of iPhone OS 4, we thought we’d also mention that 450,000 Apple iPads have shipped since it’s launch last week. That’s quite a success. [Read more…]

Notion Ink Adam – Update

Notion Ink have spoken up about the Adam and what’s happening with their new Android OS based tablet computer. Although Notion Ink couldn’t comment on 3rd party issues that are effecting it’s launch date due to NDA’s, they have commented that getting flash working on the device to give satisfactory results is one of their prime goals right now. They said that they would rather have it working right, and once it does they will launch it after a couple of months of testing. Launch dates have not been specified, but what was mentioned was the hope to get it launched in time for the new school year.

The creator is a student himself, and therefore has been working with various companies to provide an all around good educational experience for the Adam tablet.

Also the Apple iPad was mentioned in that they wanted to see how that functioned and compare it to their own device as in “did they miss anything, or can they improve on anything”. Of course the iPad has a fantastically smooth UI which we hope we will see similar results on the Adam. [Read more…]
