New 10 Inch Galaxy Tab Could Arrive in 2011

Next year, Samsung could launch a 10 inch Galaxy Tab. The news comes from local General Manager Gary Twohig of Samsung in Ireland. He added the information to the bottom of a news story about places you’ll be able to pick up a Galaxy Tab in Ireland.

It isn’t clear exactly when the larger tablet will become available, if at all, and it isn’t known what operating system will run. We assume Android will be the choice with perhaps Android 3.0 Gingerbread being the option. [Read more…]

DropBox Updates Bring New Features to iOS, Android and BlackBerry

DropBox is a very handy service that allows you to easily transfer files and documents between your desktop and a mobile device. When you drop files in to the folder on a desktop the file is automatically synchronised to an online service which the mobile apps can then sync with and grab files such as PDF’s and photos as and when needed.

Over 2 million users are now using the service. The API the DropBox also uses has enabled over 100 mobile apps to utilise the services also. [Read more…]

Redsn0w Also Jailbreaks iOS 4.2

Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 generally supports iOS 4.0 and iOS 4.1 for jailbreaking. We also hear today from Musclenerd on Twitter that it can also jailbreak iOS 4.2 beta 1 if you point it at the 4.1 ipsw.

Since some will try it anyway: this redsn0w will also JB 4.2beta1 by pointing it at the 4.1 ipsw, but it’s *very* broken (flickers, etc)

Although it does jailbreak iOS 4.2, reading the above message shows that you probably don’t want to use it right now due to the flickers and other various problems. As it was described as “*very* broken”, we think you should just leave this alone for now if you have installed the latest beta of iOS 4.2 on your iPad. [Read more…]

RIM BlackPad Tablet Announcement Expected in November

The BlackPad is a rumoured tablet that RIM is supposedly building. We have heard a few leaks here and there over the last few months such as the blackpad domain being registered along with a bit of information about what it will actually be.

A new report now indicates that the BlackPad, when launched, will cost $499 which puts it in to the pricing area of the low end iPad. We also hear that RIM will be announcing the BlackPad in November, perhaps just in time for a launch before Christmas. [Read more…]

iOS 4.1 Jailbreak for iPhone 3GS Incoming

On September 23, a new iOS 4.1 jailbreak will be released for the iPhone 3GS and lower devices. This means that for iPhone 4, iPad and iPod touch 4th gen users, you will still have to wait around for another option.

The jailbreak software is called Sn0wbreeze 2.0 and when available, will allow Windows users to create custom firmware files that prevent the baseband being updated when you upgrade the firmware on the phone. What this in turn does is allows you to use Ultrasn0w to unlock the phone so that it can be used on any carrier you want (or any compatible carrier we should say). [Read more…]

Microsoft Mobile Stragegy is Software for Every Platform

Microsoft [MSFT] over the years has branched out down a number of avenues such as creating the Xbox, smartphones and various other bits of hardware.

One thing that it does well is software. As Microsoft hasn’t had success in some areas, think of the Kin, the company is shifting its main focus back to software.

In an interview with the WSJ the following was said…

“We are in the software business and that is where our business will be focused,” he said. That means no follow-ups to the Kin social media smartphone, definitely; no resuscitation of the Courier e-reader/tablet project, probably; and a new focus on making apps for other platforms, quite possibly.

Apple Patent Reveals Accessory Transceiver for iPod

Interesting information can be found whilst looking at patents filed. The latest we came across today comes from Apple [AAPL] that reveals plans for an accessory transceiver. The accessory transceiver could be used in the iPod touch which would effectively give it the ability to make phone calls and receive text messages.

It is believed that the device could act like the Peel case we wrote about a while back that you basically put your iPod inside to give it a mobile phone signal.

The device is not intended for just the iPod though and could potentially be used for the iPhone its self. You’re probably wondering at this point, why you’d want to add mobile phone functionality to a mobile phone… well, Apple also indicate that CDMA could be part of the device which would mean you could then use your iPhone on a different network to a GSM network. VLC has all codecs built-in. It comes with support for nearly all codec there is. And what is more it can even play back the file or media if it is damaged! Missing or broken pieces are no stop to VLC, it plays all the video and audio information that’s still intact.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Promotional Video

Over the weekend, Samsung launched a new advert for the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The ad covers a number of features that the new Android tablet device has such as Widgets, Google Maps Navigation, music & videos, emails (pictured above), eBooks as well as a few technical things like streaming video to a HDTV, the battery life (7 hours) and the memory expansion up to 32GB.

The main problem here though is that we still don’t have official word on the price from Samsung. It is believed right now that the SIM free model will be more expensive than the iPad. [Read more…]

Einstein Project Newton Emulator for iPhone

The Einstein Project is expanding further and will be soon pushing out a Newton OS emulator app for the iPhone. The Einstein Project has been running since 2004 and has a goal of bringing the Newton OS (from Apple) on to various platforms. As the iPhone is believed by some to be the grandson of the Newton, it kind of makes sense that the old Newton OS should be made compatible with the iPhone.

The team behind it has managed to get it working (as seen in the video below). The Newton OS on iPhone is running a little slow at the moment although speed increases are expected over the coming months.

We also hear that Newton OS will be made compatible with the iPod touch and iPad through emulation. It isn’t clear if Apple [AAPL] will approve the app, and it is likely that they might not. However, if it does go ahead then it would be worth grabbing it just for fun and to see how the old Apple tablet worked around 20 years ago. [Read more…]
