Windows Slate Devices to Launch By Christmas

When the HP Slate was first unveiled at the beginning of the year over at CES we expected that it would be available a few months after. But as we now know, Apple announced the iPad shortly after and released it a couple of months after that. We are still waiting for the HP Slate.

HP then purchased Palm which included webOS and the Windows powered Slate kind of dropped of the radar a little. We are still unsure of HP’s plans and if they are to launch a Slate or not, but Steve Ballmer mentioned yesterday that a Slate would arrive by Christmas. [Read more…]

After a month or more of waiting, Samsung has now revealed the price of the Samsung Galaxy Tab in the UK. SIM free the Galaxy Tab will cost £599.99 which makes it around £70 more than the equivalent iPad 3G+WiFi model.

Although its difficult to put the two together in terms of features, a lot of people still use the iPad as a benchmark for pricing. In this case the Tab is higher although you do get cameras and the ability to use it as a phone should you wish. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy Tab UK Launch Date – November 1

Samsung has announced that the Samsung Galaxy Tab will be launching in the UK on November 1. All major networks will get the Galaxt Tab on launch day although Samsung have still yet to reveal the price tag.

We know that Amazon, Expansys and others will sell a SIM free Tab for £600 – £700, but as for carrier pricing, we really have no idea what plans are just yet. Apple TV Teardown

The next generation (2nd gen) Apple TV started shipping in the last few days. iFixit of course, managed to get it’s hands on one and has already taken it apart to see what exactly goes on inside.

The new Apple TV is far smaller than the original version that launched a few years ago. It runs iOS and is based around streaming content rather than storing content locally on internal memory.

Interesting information found about the Apple TV when tearing it down reveal that it has 256MB RAM just like the new iPod touch and iPad. The device also uses the same A4 processor package as is found in the iPad. [Read more…]

HP PalmPad WebOS Version Landing Early 2011 – Rumour

HPs EVP Todd Bradley has commented that we could see the WebOS based HP PalmPad arrive early next year. HP also filed for the PalPad trademark earlier this year which also indicated a possible launch.

The HP PalmPad will join the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the newly announced BlackBerry PlayBook in the fight against the Apple iPad. Each runs a different OS which makes the whole thing a little more intriguing. WebOS of course, is what runs on devices such as the Palm Pre. The OS its self works well and with some tweaks, it could easily work well on a larger screened tablet device. [Read more…]

Official Galaxy Tab Hands-On by Samsung

We have seen the Samsung Galaxy Tab in other videos. In the past, the videos have just demonstrated the tablet hardware its self and not so much the software that runs on the Tab other than a few glimpses of a few apps.

An official video uploaded by Samsung yesterday now shows a good look in to how the software works and what apps are provided with the Galaxy Tab. The demo starts off showing the device powered on, unlocked and then a quick run through the scrolling menus. It looks quite smooth and the larger screen seems to work well with the tablet, better than I thought. [Read more…]

Kindle Bookstore in US has Over 700,000 Books Available for Download

Hidden amongst the news of the Kindle Android app update earlier today, was some more news that Amazon now has over 700,000 books available for Kindle in the US.

Three weeks ago that number was 670,000 which is a nice increase of 10,000 per week if you spread it out evenly. A look back to April this year shows that 500,000 books were available.

Looking at the competition, it appears that Barnes & Noble is still ahead with a claim of 1 million titles that can be downloaded electronically. Either way, both sets of numbers are impressive. [Read more…]

HP Slate Gets a Mini Review

Details of the HP Slate are still a little thin on the ground. Hopefully this leaked Slate along with a mini review will help you understand a little more about the Windows 7 tablet device.

The HP Slate review was uploaded to YouTube and gives a walk around of the device looking at what hardware buttons it has, what they do as well as a few details about the camera on the back.

The HP Slate (Windows 7 version) takes around 10 seconds to switch on. I’m not 100% sure if that’s from a cold boot or if switch on time will always be measured in seconds rather than being instant like the iPad. [Read more…]
