iOS 4.3 Lets you Change Function of Mute Switch back to Lock Rotate

While playing around with the new iOS 4.3 beta on the iPad, we came across an interesting menu item in the settings app that lets you now change what the Mute button does. You now have the option of switching it back to a lock rotation button.

If you think back to when the iPad first got iOS 4 the handy lock rotate button had its function changed to a mute switch. Since then, to lock the rotation you had to double tap the home button, swipe to the controls menu and then tap the orientation lock button. A number of people complained about this process and it appears in this case, Apple has decided to listen. [Read more…]

iOS 4.3 Could Get Mobile Hotspot Features

When Verizon announced the iPhone 4 yesterday, there weren’t many changes at all. The changes to hardware included a slight change to the antenna because of the device using CDMA, and a lack of a microSIM slot due to a SIM not being needed.

The only software change made to the Verizon version was in the settings menu where a new item called Mobile Hotspot was spotted. When enabled, it allows users to set up the iPhone 4 as a mobile hotspot and let other users connect over WiFi or Bluetooth to it. The iOS running on the Verizon iPhone is 4.2.5 which is slightly higher than the GSM model of the phone. [Read more…]
