Apple iPad 2 With Retina Display, 2 Cameras and FaceTime Hinted
The Apple iPad 2 release date is expected to be 1 year from the original iPad release date, making it early April 2011. We continue to hear rumours about what will be included in the iPad 2 such as a second dock connector on the landscape side, a better screen, more RAM, smaller screen etc…
Some features that we expect to see include some kind of Retina Display, perhaps not with that title but at least a screen with a pixel density that matches the current Retina Display. We think the screen size will stay the same. We think one camera (perhaps 2) might be included with the front facing camera specifically being used for FaceTime calls. A 3 axis gyro is also a possibility. Basically, you only need to look at how the iPhone advances and then attach that technology to the iPad… and then extra technology is then attached back to the next gen iPhone and so forth. Vodafone Subsidized iPad Incoming to UK
Earlier this week we learned that Orange/T-Mobile and the Three networks would be offering a subsidized iPad here in the UK. We now year that Vodafone is following and also will be offering a cheaper iPad with a higher monthly cost.
Just like the other two networks, Vodafone has yet to provide pricing or release dates for the subsidized iPad, but what we gather is that it will be expected early next year rather than being in time for Christmas. [Read more…]
iPad Multi-User Browser Launches
One thing the Apple iPad lacks it a bit of privacy where some apps are concerned. If someone “borrows” your iPad then they have full access to most apps and most data unless the app is password protected.
The Switch app in the iTunes store tackles the problem of browser privacy by allowing several users to use the browser, but by each authenticating with their own username and password. What this does is let users keep their own bookmarks, tabs and history so that others don’t mess. [Read more…]
Print from iPad to All Printers with Printopia App
One of the problems with iOS 4.2 and AirPrint is the lack of compatible printers. As it stands right now, there are just 10 printers that can be printed on.
When iOS 4.2 for iPad was originally announced, we heard that all printers would be compatible if they could connect up to a Mac or PC and be shared. This of course drastically changed as shared support was removed with iOS 4.2 GM was released a few weeks back. [Read more…]
iPad on Three to be Subsidized
Recently, Orange hinted that it will be selling a subsidized iPad. The Three network has now joined in on the game and will also be subsidizing an iPad in the UK.
What that essentially means is that you’ll pay less up front for the iPad, but will also be committed to an 18 or 24 month data plan with a higher price per month to make up the cost over the term of the contract.
Three UK today announced it will offer new purchase options for iPad users, including more affordable prices when purchased with a data service plan, for iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G models in the coming months.
Pleco 2.2 for iPhone and iPad Finally Launches
Pleco for iPhone and iPad has finally been approved in the iTunes store. The new 2.2 version brings OCR to the app allowing you to capture a word via the camera and have it scanned and converted in to English. The meaning of each character loads up as it is recognised.
Added an amazing new “live” Optical Character Recognizer (OCR) system as a paid add-on; using this, you can point your device’s camera at a word to instantly look up its meaning (no need to take a photo and wait for a result). This is currently only supported on devices with autofocus cameras (i.e., the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4). To try a free demo version of OCR, open Pleco, tap on the menu button at the bottom right corner of the screen, tap “Add-ons,” tap on “Optical Character Recognizer” and tap on the button to download and run the demo.
iPad Rotate Lock Switch Restored by NoMute App – Requires Jailbreak
When Apple [AAPL] released iOS 4.2.1 on Monday, as expected, the screen orientation lock switch was changed to a mute switch. To stop the screen rotating now requires that you double tab the home button, swipe to the side and tap a virtual button in the dock.
For some this is just fine and they are happy to do this, but the general consensus seems to indicate that people are a tad upset with this option. For those who don’t mind jailbreaking their iPad, there is a solution. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Design Patent Shows Landscape Dock Connector
The Apple iPad 2 could contain a landscape dock connector allowing the iPad to be docked in either portrait or landscape mode and still get the syncing and juice it needs to charge.
This isn’t the first time we have seen this patent. Previously the second dock connector was spotted over in China in September and then Europe in October. Now, the design patent has just been made available in the US which further strengthens the possibility that we’ll be seeing two connectors on the new iPad. [Read more…]
