New Sony Walkman NW-S700F Series

Sony realise that they are not at the top of the list for MP3 players. They know that the iPod has won over many people. Sony want to change this in a statement that Hiroshi Yoshioka said “Sony has a lot of strenghts that Apple doesn’t have”

Sony Walkman NW-S700F
The new Sony Walkman has been launched which should be out by the end of this year. The new line of audio players features things which no other device currently offers, and they hope that this will boost sales for them. Several models will go on sale up to 4Gb in capacity and this will sell for around $240.

Sony Walkman

Features
This new walkman from Sony features several snazzy functions such as copying direct from CD in to the MP3 player, a fancy noise reduction system which can boost levels according to the ambient noise around. The display is colour.

One thing that stands out most is the 3 minute charge which gives a nice 3 hours of playback. This is certainly a nice step forwards for those who love their music.

Noice Canceling Technology
Noise cancelling works on the NW-S700F in the way of discreet microphones built in to the 13.5EX headphones. These capture ambient noise, the walkman analyses it and adjusts volume, bass, treble levels to different levels to enhance the users experience in listening to the music. The actual functions invert the outside noise also which can then null the outside noise. The walkman boasts a 5 channel equaliser which can be used to adjust the music to different sounds such as club, arena and studio effects.

The screen is colour and is enhanced with a nice backlight which gives a floating effect of the text.

The models that will be available are the 1Gb NW-S703F which is available in gold and black, the 2Gb NW-S705F which comes in violet and black and then the mean 4Gb NW-S706F which comes in black.

Price is a little higher then the usual 4Gb flash player, but with the noise cancelling, quick charge and direct from CD to MP3 player technologies, it makes it well worth the $240 ish price tag.

Kenwood USB Car Radio

Kenwood have introduced several new car radio’s which were launched at IFA 2006 in Germany. These new systems each come with a USB connector which allows many different types of MP3 player to plug directly in to the car stereo. The USB connection is also compatible with not just MP3 players, but mass media and other types of USB devices also.
Kenwood USB Car Radio

If the attached device contains a recognisable format then the radio will pick that up and the option to then play the file will be available. Files can be stored in MP3, AAC or WMA.

Two versions of this radio are available. A 1-DIN and 2-DIN. The 1-DIN models (numbers KDC-W534UA, KDC-W5534U, KDC-W6534U and KDC-W7534U) have a cable on the back of the player in which the device can be plugged in. The 2-DIN models (numbers DPX501U and DPX701U) both have the USB connector on the front panel.

The inbuilt software alows easy navigation of your music and is much similar to that on your PC. As well as USB there is also an optional feature which supports an Apple iPod.

No prices have been given yet.

The i-Deck

This is another cool idea which integrates with your iPod. You connect your iPod to the old record player look a like and then the turntable part is actually a round LCD touch screen which displays the album art. Very fancy!

Freestyle Fusion AMP, Waterproof :)

Not many waterproof MP3 players exist although I have seen cases for the iPod which claim to be waterproof.

This new one named the Freestyle Fusion AMP fastens to an armband and is water proof to 10ft which is acceptable for regular swimming in the sea. It comes in 2 versions at 256Mb/512Mb and priced at $160 or $200.

Thomson EH306, EM2600 and EM2802 MP3 Players

Thomson have introduced 3 new music players to the market. The EH306, EM2600 and the EM2802. The EM2802 stands out because of it’s thin metal case. It comes with 1Gb or 2Gb memory and a 1.5″ colour OLED screen. This is one device which will be competing with the iPod Nano.

The EH306 is a disc based player which holds a nice 6Gb of data. It has the same 1.5 inch screen. The EM2600 is just a standard player with half a gig or 1 gig of memory.

Navman iCN 750 GPS

The Navman iCN 750 is a highend sat nav system which now includes a 4Gb internal hard drive. This is the only down fall of the device as it would have been better with 4Gb flash because of access speeds. The new device will feature an iPod like wheel to navigate with and it is possible to download guided tours with images and put them directly in to your itierary. This high end sat nav system should sell for around $700.

Handshaking Gadget

Another weird one to follow on from the toilet roll holder iPod docking station thing… Now arrives the handshaking gadget. This iBand is a gadget which wraps around your wrist and when you shake hands with another wearer a piece of information about you is beamed via infra-red to the other wrist band wearer and vice versa. Strange! LOL. Details such as contact details, business interests etc… are transferred. Hopefully these wont become standard in business and if a similar idea comes up then it should just stick to wifi or bluetooth in your pocket so you can transfer details across to other users.

Creative Zen V Plus

Creative have launched their new MP3 player called the Zen V Plus. This is a rather colourful small device aimed to take on the iPod nano. The MP3 player is flash based and comes in 3 flavours… 1Gb, 2Gb and 4Gb. There is a V plus and a V model which are $30 difference in price. The Plus sports an FM radio and video playback. Not a bad way to spend the extra $30. The battery was tested and lasts 15 hours (reports say 20) which still is quite handy. The screen is 1.5" but lacks the brightness to be still visibile outside. Overall it's a good challenger to the iPod.
