Larger DS Screen

DS
Recently a number of rumours have been circulating that the Nintendo DS will soon sport a larger and better screen. The new screen will be around the 3.5 to 3.8 inch size which will certainly make the DS more competitive against the Sony PSP. If the rumour is correct then the new DS should be out mid 2007.

Samsung SPH-B5800

Samsung SPH-B5800
Samsung has come up with a nice looking mobile phone. It has GPS built in and offers a number of other features such as an MP3 player, DMB functionality, a dictionary with 330000 words, audio book reader, document viewer and of course a digital camera. The digital camera is a little on the low resolution side at 2 mega pixels but I doubt that would turn anyone off who was interested in this great looking phone.

Linux Smartphone

FIC Linux Phone
A new Linux Smartphone is on it’s way called the FIC-GTA001. The phone is going to be released along with an SDK which will then allow users to create their own programs and functions for the phone.

The FIC-GTA001 has a 2.8 inch VGA screen, USB file sharing, multi touch sensor recognition, GSM, GPS, 128Mb RAM which a Samsung ARM9 processor. It will also play MP3’s.

Multi Touch
Multi touch technology gives the user the option of touching the screen with 2 fingers which will help with a bunch of tasks.

Giving the SDK along with the phone makes this an interesting step. I can see a lot of developers jumping on this concept to create their own software to power their new phone and then share it with the world.

SPH-P9000
Samsung have launched an interesting phone/pda/umpc. The SPH-P9000 aims to be all 3 in one with a unique unfolding keyboard and screen as can be seen above. It has a 1 Ghz CPU, 256 Mb RAM and a nice sized 5″ TFT screen.

Along with the nice specs it has CDMA EVDO, WiMAX and a 1.3 megapixel camera. Multi functional devices are needed more and more. With needs such as a cell phone, PDA, GPS, MP3 player and moving on to using devices to pay for hotel’s etc… there is going to be a HUGE demand to throw everything in to 1. The Samsung shows one way that this can be done and they have done it with some style too. More pics are over at akihabaranews

Lowrance iWAY 600C with Sat Images

iWAY 600C
The Lowrance iWAY 600C is new in to the GPS market. It looks like this one will do well because of integrated satelite imagery which can be put on to the top of regular road maps. Currently the satellite images are only available in some main cities, but this is a great step forwards and no doubt the map updates that can be done through a USB port will also run updates for satellite images. I am not sure yet if you can upload custom satelite images or OS type maps, but if not then the device has still jumped in to a corner of the market not really tapped in to yet.

The iWAY 600C has the option of 2D and 3D maps and the usual turn by turn voice instructions which we are all familier with. The device runs on a 30Gb HD which can be used to store the images on. The screen is quite large at 5″ and runs at a nice resolution of 640 x 480. Going back to the hard drive, 85% is used for storing satellite images leaving the remaining 15% for updates to use. Hopefully the device’s internal drive can be upgraded as more sat images fill it’s memory, although you might not really need to keep high res images of the whole world if you only plan on visiting a city once. Just upload it for when you are there.
