HTC TyTN II

HTC TyTN II
The TyTN II from HTC was released recently. Dave over at MobilityToday managed to get hold of one for review and first impressions are quite good. Some bad things noted are the battery being too low capacity even though GPS, 802.11, HSDPA can be found which means less time using the device. GPS is not configurable, although it does just work with out problems. On the good side there is a great screen which can tilt allowing for better viewing. There is a lot of ram packed in there. The camera is 3 megapixel. TomTom is installed and it has USB charging which is great news.

Dave has more details over on his site as well as a full review to be expected soon.

TomTom Sat Nav now with Speech Recognition

TomTom GO
TomTom is a cool sat nav. I have been using TomTom for a few years now and impressed with the quality of maps and how easy it allows you to navigate right to a particular address. In effort to increase the ease of use the latest TomTom GO 720 and 520 are to offer speech recognition. I am a bit worried about how well this will actually work though. From first hearing about this I wonder if it will be like Transcriber on the PocketPC which works… kind of. Another feature of TomTom GO 720 and 520 which looks to be very useful is the TomTom Map Share feature which allows updates to be made to maps by users. If a new road is built then it can be added to the map and then shared with everyone else so that no new maps are needed. POI can also be shared through this system.

Bluetooth is built in allowing you to use it as a hands free kit for your mobile phone allowing you to safely take calls while driving.

On the connectivity side it can connect via Bluetooth, Wifi and it has GPS built in. This is not a bad little package from Acer.

TTOOL PMP
The TTOOL PMP from first impressions looks to be a great little machine. It runs Windows CE 5.0 and has a 400MHz processor to power it. The screen is 7 inch and is also touchscreen. The resolution is 480 x 234 pixels. As well as being just a PMP it has a GPS chip from SiRF III allowing for Satelite Navigation. Audio is produced by 2 built in stereo speakers. With 64Mb of built in SDRAM there seems to be a low amount of memory although that can be increased by the use of an SD or MMC memory card.

Lexus LS600hL Face Detection Camera

Lexus LS600hL Face Detection Camera
Safety when driving is very important and keeping full attention on the road makes your journey safter. With all the gadgets that tend to clutter the dash board such as GPS, fancy stereos, TV screens and the mobile phone as well as lots to look at out side like posters, you really need to make sure your priority is on the road and what is happening around. Lexus have created another gadget which this time is not to take your attention off the road, but to put your attention on the road. It is a camera with face detection which can monitor your concentration levels by watching to see if you tend to look at posters and passers by rather then the road. If it detects this a audible or visual alert will try capture your attention. If you do not heed its warnings then it can start applying the brakes on its own. Also steering ratio can be changed to capture your attention more.

Delphi Real Time Traffic Kit

Delphi
Traffic sucks and especially when you need to get to your next appointment on time. Delphi have created a real time traffic kit which works on their Nav200 system. Services that I have heard about in the past from TomTom for example, require a subscription. With the Delphi traffic kit you have a one time cost to activate it and then no additional fees. This isnt bad and well worth looking in to if you are more of a casual GPS user.
