Sony 3D HDTVs Announced

Sony have announced 12 new full HD TV’s in their Bravia range, some of which are 3D TVs. The Sony Bravia LX900, HX900 and HX800 series are each backlit by LED and have full 3d HDTV capabilities with those attending the press event describing them as being “beautiful”.

Interesting features of the LX900 series include a new Intelligent People Sensors mode that uses a built in camera on the TV to detect were viewers are sitting in the room and the system adjusts the sound to match their location. As well as dealing with sound the Intelligent People Sensors also adjusts brightness in that it can detect when the viewer just has the TV on in the background rather than directly watching it… in these cases the picture will dim to save power. When it detects that no viewers are in the room the TV will automatically switch off to again, save a bit more power. Lets just hope that Sony have got this right!!! [Read more…]

Cipher Drinking Glass Gadget

The Cipher Drinking glass is a concept gadget that uses a bunch of colours on the side of the glass to represent the sort of drink inside the glass.

The drinking glass concept was designed by Damjan Stankovic and in all honesty, I doubt we will see them soon unfortunately. Anyway, the glasses as mentioned above, show the contents of what is inside the glass such as Orange, Milk or what ever. When empty a bunch of random squares can be seen on the glass as part of the design. [Read more…]

Cyber Quad VTOL Drone

cyberquad1This flying object is built by an Australian company called Cyber Technology and is capable of vertical take off and landing. The Cyber Quad as it’s called has four ducted fans to provide lift to fly it around as an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. As well as being able to fly around it does have a real use in that a HD camera is attached that can beam back live video from locations it is scouting out.

One recent example was when it was used on an oil platform where the Cyber Quad was flown in to capture video of what was happening and any damage that had been caused. It is capable of flying for about 40 minutes on a single charge, but as it’s easy to manoeuvre it can easily be perched on a pad so that the camera can be moved around while the Quad isn’t flying to save battery life. Sony Creates a 360 Degree Display

Sony-3D-360Sony are set to introduce a unique prototype 360 degree display this week at the Digital Contents Expo held in Tokyo this week.

The 360 degree display unit will measure 10.6 inches in height and have a diameter of 5.1 inches. As of yet, Sony do not seem to know what they want to achieve with this odd display prototype although it could potentially be used for signs in shops or as a different photo frame for the home or perhaps (in my opinion) used to sit next to your computer to display information in a unique way. Acer Aspire 5738PG 3D Laptop

acer-3d-laptop_AsLIb_54Acer are launching what they claim to be the worlds first 3D laptop. It is named the Acer Aspire 5738PG and allows you to view both 2D movies and photos as 3D content. Also, games will have the ability to run in 3D if they support DirectX 9 and above.

The downside of all this is that you will still have to wear the funky glasses pictured above. If that isn’t a problem for you then your good to go. The 3D effect works by Acer using an in-house software application along with a special coating over the screen. By using the polarized glasses it gives a 3D effect.

Acer calls the new system “TriDef 3D Experience” and the special coating seems to be where most of the work is done. The coating attaches to the screen panel pixel by pixel and by using the filtered polarised glasses you get to see the images from a slightly different angle in each eye to give the effect. An Implant Microchip Could help Restore Vision

mit-retinal-implantResearchers at MIT are currently working on a retinal implant that can bypass damaged cells and send visual input to the brain to help restore vision.

Those who use the implant will need to wear a pair of glasses which have a built in camera embedded in them. The signal from the camera will then be sent to the microchip embedded in the eye which will then forward that visual signal on to the brain.

Although vision won’t be 100% fixed with the implant the camera and chip combination will help those to navigate around a room for example. [Read more…]

Sony PS3 Firmware Update to Bring 3D to All PS3 Games

Sony-PS3-3D-FirmwareIn 2010, Sony will be launching a new firmware update for the PlayStation 3 that will bring 3D to ALL PlayStation 3 games. Although they say all, there might be a few games that just don’t work well with 3D, but on the whole all should be compatible.

The system works by sending out a HDMI signal to a 3D TV that runs at 200Hz. Each frame displayed on the screen alternates between the left and right eye giving a 100Hz per eye 3D image. For a test an Engadget editor tried out Wipeout HD and said it looked amazing. Video of the game after the jump although you wont actually see it in 3D as you need to be there wearing the special glasses. [Read more…]

3D TV’s With No Specs Around the Corner

3dtv3D is becoming a big thing since a plethora of 3D screens and graphics cards were revealed over the last year. When ever people think of 3D they think of the red and blue cardboard specs that you had to wear when watching Jaws 3D back in the 80’s. These more modern days we now see rather cool looking dark glasses which are more acceptable but still a pain if you ask me. For this reason a company have been working on a 3D TV that requires no special glasses at all and allows you to just sit and watch. [Read more…]
