Lego Sunglasses – Crazy?

I’m not quite 100% convinced with this pair of sunglasses. They feature Lego arms which allow you to connect up Lego bricks of any variety to them. Weather it be blocks, Lego men, Lego Space, Lego whatever you can connect it up and for the seriously adverturous you could make a whole helmet to wrap around your head.

My thoughts are now that it falls in to the crazy category. The Lego sunglasses are designed and built by a French optical company named Lynx Optique.

Read in the Dark LED Reading Glasses

led-reading-glassesIf you recently purchased a Kindle 2 and went to read it at night you will have quickly found out that you cannot see it. This is the problem with e-paper in that there is no backlight usually. For those of you who want to read at night these LED reading glasses might work for you. Of course they are compatible with e-books and regular books and what they do is provide light on the edges of the glasses so that you can read in the dark.

The reading glasses have super bright LED’s in each corner of the lenses and 4 batteries are held within the frames. The batteries are good for up to 30 hours of night time reading. The LED’s work with a switch built in to the hinges of the glasses and when the arms are opened the lights switch on.

The advantage of having LED’s built in to your specks is that you don’t have to faff around with a book light every time you turn the page.

In my book, the LED Reading Glasses are a winner! But there is one drawback: the glasses are only available with refractive lenses. In other words, you have to be presbyotic — nearsighted. They are available in 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 diopter. From Hammacher Schlemmer with a lifetime guarantee.

Available from Hammacher Schlemmer costing $39.95.

Glow Stick Glow Glasses

Glow-stick-glow-glasses
Glow Glasses work on the same concept as a glow stick. They just glow in bright colours to get attention in dark places. To get them to glow you just bend them to break the inside glass ampoules, then shake to mix up the chemicals. Once shaken and glowing you then fix the glasses together and wear them. The glow on the glasses will last around 6 hours.

The glow glasses come with a set of 12 units to build them. The glasses are made of 5 parts. 2 glow sticks in each with 3 plastic parts to hold them together.

Colour Changing Glasses

Colour Changing Glasses
These are not the most attractive set of sunglasses I have seen, but they do include some cool technology to allow the tint on them to change colour. The glasses are more active and more intelligent then other glasses and can change under conditions of light, reflection and by manually twisting a dial on one of the arms.

I am not convinced yet, but maybe the technology could be used elsewhere.

Designer Glasses with Display

Display
When looking for a screen to wear you are often faced with some weird looking glasses for your face. Lumus-Optical seems like it could come to the rescue with the above prototype glasses. According to sources, the glasses feature a projector on the arm which projects the image on to the lens and gives what appears to be a 60 inch screen at 10 feet in front of you.

Hopefully more details will follow next month on this device.

Samsung LCD Strategy Outlined

Over the next few years, we will more than likely be seeing higher pixel density screens according to Samsung. By 2015, the company expects to have screens that have a higher pixel density of about 300 to 400 PPI which will be made available for tablets to use.

The slide show was presented at CTIA and explained that screens would see a density increase, while getting thinner and having better power requirements. Right now, a 24.8Wh battery could last around 6 hours with the next version (200-300PPI) lasting around 8 hours and then in 2015 the 300 to 400 PPI lasting around 10 hours.
