Microsoft [MSFT] is using Twitter to promote Windows Phone in a slightly different way. Rather than selling the benefits of the Microsoft smartphone operating system, they are focussing on the bad of Android and some recent malware issues it has had.
Microsoft is replying to messages from angry Android users offering them one of five free smartphones that it is giving away as part of a competition.
Evernote has announced in a blog post that Skitch for Android has hit 3 million downloads. The app launched a few months ago which Evernote points out is a download every 1.5 seconds.
Google [GOOG] has updated the web version of the Android Market to include a few new handy features. The first, pictured below, allows you to filter app reviews based on devices that are connected to your account. This will let you more easily spot if a particular app has a bug for your particular device.
The Amazon Kindle Fire has been seen running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The update isn’t official and was hacked on to the Kindle Fire by a developer who goes by the name of G1011999.
The graph below shows the speed at which Android users are downloading apps on the Android Market. Just by looking at the graph you’ll see that there has been a tremendous amount of growth this past year. In March there were 3 billion total downloads followed by another 1.5 billion by May and another 1.5 billion to July. In December this number has just hit 10 billion total downloads.
A quick demonstration of Windows Phone 7.5 has been uploaded on the internet and can be used on the iPhone or on Android smartphones. The demo is aimed to give you a quick glimpse of how Windows Phone 7.5 works.
A new app called Cluzee has launched. The app is available for Android smartphones and works as a personal assistant much like Siri for the iPhone 4S although in some cases, it’s a little more comprehensive.
Google [GOOG] has added a new feature to Google Maps for Android devices. The new feature lets you navigate indoors around a building and is even capable of telling you what floor you are on.
The reason for the new feature is that when you navigate to a destination such as from your home to the airport, you are taken door to door. With the latest version of Maps (6.0) you can now see exactly where you need to go when you get to the door of the airport. Accuracy is available within several meters and the software can detect when you move floors.
Google has updated the Android.com website to include details about the new operating system Android 4.0. The new OS is called Ice Cream Sandwich and was released yesterday when the Samsung Galaxy Nexus launched.
Acer will be launching a new Tegra 3 based tablet in the new year. Two models have been identified which are the A510 and A511. The specs show that they will have the quad-core Tegra 3 processor inside and that they will run the Google Android operating system, we assume Ice Cream Sandwich.
It appears that Huawei has delayed the launch of the MediaPad tablet. Initially it was going to be made available in Europe before the end of 2011 although it seems that the launch might not happen until 2012.
The CEO of Meizu has confirmed that the M9 and MX devices will both get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The comments were left on the company forum which also confirmed an unchanged December launch for the Meizu MX.
