HTC EVO 4G Android 2.2 Update Fix

Last week, a ROM on the HTC site leaked out early and gave EVO 4G users the chance to upgrade to Android 2.2. The problem with the EVO 4G Android 2.2 update was that it wasn’t the final version. For those early adopters who grabbed this update, you are now left with an Android 2.2 version that isn’t final and that cannot receive OTA updates.

HTC has acknowledged this problem and is finding an official fix for this. However, if you are impatient and want an unofficial fix to return your update features to normal then check out Pojomans work on XDA Developers. [Read more…]

Google Announce 200K Android Devices Ship Daily

Eric Schmidt of Google [GOOG] has announced that 200,000 Google Android smartphones are being sold each day. Back in April that number was 60,000 and just two months ago it was 100,000. 200K represents an impressive growth rate over the last few months and one that Google has to be happy about.

That number is just one drip from a stream of good news for the platform this week, including 866 percent year-over-year growth and the top spot in NPD’s sales rankings.

Although we are sure that Google is happy with the speed of Android devices shifting off the shelves, we suspect that they wont sit back and enjoy it for more than a minute or two as they will be looking to again double that in the near future. [Read more…]

Facebook for Android 1.3 Update Now Ready

The Facebook app on Android devices hasn’t been that good. It just didn’t work as smoothly as some expected and lacked a few features. Thankfully an update has now arrived in the form of 1.3. The new update has native event viewing and video viewing and has also improved the layout.

A working notification drawer has been added to the app and it also features the ability to view photos within the app. Previously a lot of functions redirected users to the mobile version of the site which didn’t really work as well as people wanted.

The application it’s self is free to download from the Android market although right now it appears that it works on Android 2.0 and above leaving 1.6 users and below in the dark. [Read more…]

Motorola Droid Android 2.2 Update Lacks Tethering and Wi-Fi Hotspot

The Motorola DROID Android 2.2 update is expected to start this week although the update will lack a few features that are to be found in other devices running the Froyo update.

Both tethering and the Wireless Hotspot functions will be missing for Droid users. The reasons for the lack of these two “wanted” features is due to the hardware not being capable of supporting it.

‘The Droid by Motorola doesn’t have [the] hardware to support a mobile hot spot, a Verizon spokesperson told MobileCrunch. ‘With tethering there is no connection on the PC side that will allow you to tether the device, so the answer is: That option isn’t part of this update.

Androidlib is a company that tracks Android apps. Today they indicate that 100,000 apps have been submitted since the Market opened for it’s public debut.

What this doesn’t mean is that there are 100,000 apps available to download as an estimated 18,000 apps have been removed or temporarily taken down from the Market.
