Sony Ericsson Android 3.0 PSP Go Smartphone

Engadget is reporting today that Sony Ericsson could be building a PSP Go style device that will run Android 3.0 and work as a smartphone.

The information comes from a trusted source and indicates that Sony Ericsson is working on a way to redefine gaming using the Android 3.0 platform.

Sony Ericsson “…is at work on a project to redefine gaming on Google’s mobile platform. We now know (via a trusted source) that the company is actively and heavily developing a brand new gaming platform, ecosystem, and device (possibly alongside Google) which are already in the late stages of planning. R2-D2 DROID 2 Landing in September

We briefly mentioned a couple of days ago that as well as the Motorola DROID 2 launching, a special R2-D2 DROID 2 would also launch.

We now hear that the R2-D2 DROID 2 will be launching in September on to the Verizon [VZ] network.

The special edition DROID 2 will come pre-installed with exclusive Star Wars content. As well as the internals getting a little Star Wars treatment, the outside will also be designed to look like R2-D2 from the Star Wars films. [Read more…]

Motorola DROID Android 2.2 Update Now Ready

It appears that the Motorola DROID Android 2.2 update is now incoming OTA. Engadget received a bunch of tips earlier today indicating that the Android 2.2 update was live.

The update will roll out over a number of days. This means that if you haven’t received an OTA notification just yet, it should follow in the next few days.

Normally it is possible to force the update to land early by going in to settings and checking for new updates. We haven’t tested it for this phone though so this “might” not be a work around in this case. [Read more…]

Motorola DROID 2 on Verizon Available for Pre-Order

Verizon [VZ] is right on schedule as you are now able to pre-order a Motorola DROID 2 ready for launch tomorrow.

The pre-order pages list the full retail price of the phone at $559.99 along with both a 1 year contract price and 2 year contract price which weigh in at $269.99 for 1 year and $199.99 for the 2 year.

Hardware wise, you get a 3.7 inch screen that has a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels in a WVGA format. 8 GB of internal memory is included along with an 8GB microSD card (provided). A 5 megapixel camera is found on the back. [Read more…]

Google Android Virus Arrives – The First One

It appears that the Google [GOOG] operating system “Android” is now becoming so popular that a virus has been created for it.

The virus was found by the guys at Kaspersky Lab who identified the virus spreading in a text message. The virus is called the Trojan-SMS.AndroidOS.FakePlayer.a and is sent via text message to Android based phones. The message prompts you to install an application which is described as being a 13KB harmless media player app.

If you accept and install you open up your Android OS smartphone which gives the virus the ability to automatically send text messages to premium rate numbers silently in the background. [Read more…]

TweetDeck Android Beta Coming this Week

Today, the TweetDeck Blog had an announcement that mentioned TweetDeck for Android was almost ready for launch.

This week a public beta will be launched allowing users to test the application and report any bugs back to TweetDeck. It isn’t clear just yet when the final release will arrive, but we suspect that it isn’t too far away now although the final date will obviously be based on how well the public beta does. Motorola Announced the DROID 2 – Landing August 12

Verizon [VZ] has announced the Motorola DROID 2 along with a release date and pricing. The pre-sale of the DROID 2 will start tomorrow on August 11 with shipping of the smartphone starting August 12.

Price wise, the DROID 2 will cost $199.99 as expected along with a two year contract agreement that you’ll need to sign.

OS wise, it comes with Android 2.2 pre-installed. Android 2.2 is the latest OS from Google [GOOG] and just in the last month has started rolling out to various smartphones. Thanks to Android 2.2, the DROID 2 is able to run Adobe Flash 10.1 which is available to download on all 2.2 based devices.

“When we announced DROID X last month, we reaffirmed our commitment to continue to bring unique Android experiences to the Verizon Wireless network,” said Jeffrey Dietel, vice president wireless device, marketing and development for Verizon Wireless. “The DROID by Motorola was our first Android device, so it is important for us to include the successor to that phone in our portfolio. DROID 2 is not only a continuation of our commitment to Android but offers customers the features and form-factor they crave on the Verizon Wireless network.”

Motorola Droid 2 Price Details

The price of the Motorola Droid 2 has been revealed unoficially. We say unoficiallt as the pricing details were captured from a display unit as pictured above.

When launched later this week, the Motorola Droid 2 will cost $199 which will require a 24 month contract to be signed. If you prefer it off contract then the price is $599.

The release date of the Motorola Droid 2 is rumoured to be August 12 which comes from some other leaked documents found last week. [Read more…]

HTC Desire HD Android 2.2 Smartphone Spotted

The smartphone pictured here is supposed to be the HTC Desire HD. The device is said to run Android 2.2 from Google [GOOG] and have a large 4.3 inch touchscreen along with an 8 megapixel camera. The camera is capable of capturing video at 720p HD.

Powering the Desire HD is a 1GHz processor and 4GB of memory can also be found inside.

It isn’t clear if this device is the HTC Desire HD. Firstly, it’s a leaked shot with no “official” details known and secondly, PMPToday points out that it looks more similar to the HTC EVO 4G. [Read more…]

PayPal Android App Updated to Use Bump – Tap to Send Money

PayPal has updated it’s Android PayPal app to include the popular Bump service. What the PayPal/Bump integration does is allows users to bump phones together to send money to each other.

Motorola Droid X Android 2.2 Update Coming September

The Motorola Droid X Android 2.2 update is coming in September. This information comes thanks to a post over on the Motorola forums where one of the staff members responded to a long thread about problems with notifications for corporate email.

His response said that a fix was incoming and would be part of the Android 2.2 update scheduled for the Droid X in September.

Some Droid X users are experiencing an issue using Exchange 2003 email. Though the email is arriving on the Droid X, no notifications are appearing. A fix for this will be included in the upgrade to Android 2.2 scheduled for deployment by early September.
